Marianopolis College Admission

Dawson college?? John Abbott?? or Marianopolis?

I would narrow it down to ... two.

Marianopolis does not offer technical (skilled trade) programs, nor adult (continuing) education, unlike many other colleges.

Dawson College offers a competitive pre-university honours program known as First Choice Science (FCS). Students enrolled in First Choice Science can choose between the Pure and Applied Science or the Health Science Profile. Admission to First Choice Science is by invitation only. Additionally, only students who apply to Dawson College as their first choice college will be considered for admission. Admission to FCS is contingent on the spaces available and is therefore extremely competitive. Students deemed eligible will receive a letter inviting them to join FCS.

Marks for Marianopolis College?

Presently I am in grade 11. I am attending an international School in another country with the subjects: english, math, physics, chem, bio, computer, physical education, ethics, art, french & economics.I was born in Canada, Montreal.
I was wondering what marks does marianopolis college look for in students. I have just given my 1st term exam.. For admission I need to give my final results which will be in june. However, the deadline for the college admission is in the end of jan or march. (depends whether i am an international student or a quebec student)
I'm guessing I'm considered as an international student but still am not sure because does it still make me an international student if i was born in Montreal?

these are my secondary IV marks:

math:88%
physics: 88%
chemistry: 85%
biology: 80%
economics: 93%
english: 94%
(the rest were above 95)

This year I've been working really hard and I've already given my 1st term exams, however they've not yet given the marks.. what im guessing is that i got 85+ for everything except math & physics.. i am giving those 2 next semester.
I want to go in the science field which leads to medicine.

Overall all i want to know what marks they look for in students, whether i am an international student or quebec student, and if they will accept my 1st term report card "for now" without the math & physics marks

thankyou so much!

Which college should I go Marianopolis or Vanier in Montreal?

I'm a high school student, turning to college next year. I need to make a choice between Marianopolis and Vanier. I would like to go to the pure and applied science program. People are saying that marianopolis has a better reputation, they have good teacher and students etc. But honestly, I don't really trust what these people are saying, some might just hear it from others who didn't even go to the college. I went to the openhouse of both collge. Apparently, marionopolis has better equipement and teaching ressources.
I have relatively good result in my school, my general average is 80+ and my science/math average is around 85. I think Marianopolis would be a good choice, but the majority of my friends including those who have even better grade choose Vanier. It's confusing. I want to make a good choice. Vanier is closer to me, and it's a public college (less fee to pay). Marianopolis is far and private.

Is Marianopolis better or Dawson college better?

That really depends on what you want. If you like competition and you are really good at school then go to Marianopolis. If you want a relaxing Cegep experience, go to Dawson.

Getting in to Marianopolis ?

Hi, I'm looking to get into the Marionopolis science program, I'm strong in the prerequisies (Math, Chemistry, Physics) and have marks in the 90's.

However the marks in lots of my other classes are in the 60's (French, English, History...)

I was wondering if I need a strong overall average to get in or just high marks in the prerequisite classes?

If both Vanier College and Marianopolis did not accept me, do you think I have a chance at Dawson?

Hi there,
You are absolutely right that 78 is in no way a bad average. There are many different calculations involved in admissions, and each cegep will vary.
Have you discussed your application with your guidance counselor?
Also, it isn’t true that one needs an 80 average to be admitted into Marianopolis. Historical averages can be quite different from program to program. Have a look: http://www.bemarianopolis.ca/?page_id=2559
The historical averages are not set by the college but determined each year by the number of applicants, quality of the pool and how many spots there are in any given program.
If you would like to discuss your file or options, please email us or give us a call. We could help you come up with an action plan to re-apply or find the best program for you.

Vanier, Dawson or Marianopolis is right for me?

Hello there,

We actually do have a Psychology profile within our Social Science program. You can read more about it on our website: www.bemarianopolis.ca under "Programs".
A very good way to decide which school is best for you is really just to learn as much as possible about the different colleges you are interested in. You should participate in Student-for-a-Day programs and Open Houses.
Our Student-for-a-Day program takes place in October and November. You can sit in on classes, meet teachers, students, and basically experience a day in the life of a Marianopolis student! Academics are important, but it is also great to experience the general vibe of a school in order to decide whether it is right for you. Our Open House will be Sunday, November 2.
You should create a profile on our website. It is a great source of information, and a glimpse into what Marianopolis student life is like.
You can also like us on Facebook (Marianopolis - Future Students) and get a glimpse of our student life and upcoming events. We are also newly on Pinterest! Check out our boards @ http://www.pinterest.com/bemarianopolis/

Choosing a College is important, and it can also be a lot of fun. We hope you enjoy every step!

Kind Regards,

The Marianopolis Admissions team.

I have to write a high school admission essay, any tips?

A2A. I agree with the other writers here. Be yourself! Now- enough of the corny- you need to demonstrate how you will contribute to this school. Take a paper, and start brainstorming (or a white board at school) all experiences, or stories where you demonstrated unique qualities of character. For example, perhaps you demonstrated leadership by helping another student in your class understand a tough concept. Maybe you are creative (this was what made me unique all through high school and college) and think of creative ways to approach problems (this is all encompassing doesn’t just have to be school). Maybe you represent a diverse body of people, and you demonstrate that in your interests. Just make sure that you are giving an argument, not a forceful, aggressive, or arrogant way, but a convincing way. Everything you write in the essay should answer the questions, make sure you follow directions! Perhaps make a flow chart- I used to laugh at flow charts when I was in grade school I would roll my eyes and say “not this stuff again.” Then I got to college and wrote my senior thesis singularly generated from a complex flow chart-you don’t have to use the whole flow chart the purpose is to generate ideas and to make connections. In this case, you are making a flow chart that would answer all the questions by providing EXAMPLES. You do not just say that you a leader- you demonstrate you are a leader. The last crucial step is to have someone look over it and edit. Plan early and don’t wait till the last minute. You can also write for 15mn a day until it is finished- I did this in college and it works wonders. Best wishes!

Will i get into dawson college with these grades?

Hi Joe

I could not find this information online. All that you can do is apply and see what they say.

The high 80s in your section 5 coursework looks great.

Good luck to you
