When I saw your question, beige was my first thought. I'm not sure what to tell you, because if you paint your walls a dark color, your room will feel very very very small. If you don't mind that, maybe you could do a brown or a pink (though with pink, you'd have to be careful as most shades would clash -- some would work though). Generally, you want to find a different shade of the same color or a complimentary color. Red and green are standard complimentary colors which is why you found that recommendation.

What color should I paint my bedroom walls?
I currently have a reddish-maroon carpet. The wall is split in falf with white trim all around the bedroom, with the top half being a very light silver and the bottom being a red thats a wee bit dark. The red looks good because it goes along with the black couch, black foot stools, black dresser, black curtains, and black comforter.I would say my room has a little bit of a modern and very clean look with the shiny wood and class entertainment set. I want to repaint my walls, but keep the white trim the way it is. I need some ideas on what color to paint the top and bottom halves of the walls. as a painter im assuming that the cedar isn't stainded and basically perfect lined with laquer or varnish or mayby its left organic my element being there could be some purple interior the cedar and with you fixtures being burgandy the situation we'd desire to stay faraway from is portray the partitions something overpowering like a dismal purple or burgandy the room would be overpowering to look at and with the darkish colorations the room will look smaller i might flow to the close by paint shop or hardware stor and get a colour fan deck or colour playing cards and carry them as much as get some style of concept as to what colour to color it, something gentle beige wish this helps
