Maths Question - Year 8 Aus Level

Need help with very simple questions in math?

Q1: If a quarter of the lake's surface is covered at ten years, a half will be covered at 11 years and the whole lake will be covered at 12 years. That is, it will be only two more years before the entire surface of the lake is covered. This is called exponential growth.

Q2: It's basically a simple simultaneous equation problem.

GBP1=US$1.40; AU$1=US$0.70
GBP1 = AU$(1.40/0.70)
GBP1 = AU$2.00

That is, one British pound is worth 2 Australian dollars ($2.00)

PLEASE HELP (MATH)!!!!?

6y - 1.5x = 8 I just rewrote the problem here
6y = 1.5x + 8 Add 1.5 x to both sides to isolate the y term
y = (1.5x + 8) / 6 Divide both sides by 6 to fully isolate the y term.

y = (1.5x + 8) / 6 is your answer. On paper you could just write 1.5x + 8 and then underline it and put 6 underneath, but yahoo answers won't let me type that.

It can be useful to rewrite an equation in terms of another variable (especially in graphing and word problems) when you are given an x value and need to solve for y. This way, all you need to do is plug the number in where x is and solve that side of the equation to find y. In graphing this will help you quickly find a point's coordinates. Also, especially if you are given multiple x values to plug in and solve for y, using the rewritten equation will make the problem more simple and you will have less chances of adding / subtracting errors from transferring terms from one side of the equation to the other.

Hope this helps! :D

Math Question: Circle inside a Rectangle?

Since the circle is inside the rectangle, the diameter must be equal to one of the sides of the rectangle. Since it only touches 3 sides, it must be 6 inches in diameter.

Since radius = diameter/2, the radius would be 3 inches. Then the area would be pi*r^2, so the answer would be C.

I'm in year 10 right now in Australia, VIC. Can I fail? Please help.?

It is not too late to make an effort now and improve your grades. I would suggest that you talk to the counsellor/year advisor at your school. They will be happy to see that you are wanting to improve your grades and are paid to help you in that. No worthwhile teacher would say that your won't be successful in life and you sound like an intelligent, articulate person.

Before you start reducing your options by looking at 'dropping out and going to Tafe' I would strongly recommend that you look at the Tafe choices available and make sure there is something there that you would love (and not just settle for). Year 10 won't equip you for many decent jobs and you would be wise to look at what the Tafe wants for entry to the courses you like, as some of the good ones are very popular and more difficult to gain entry to.

Don't rip yourself off and reduce your future choices by 'just passing' Year 10. Find a dream and work towards it.
