Mazda Rx8 Weird Noise

Why is my Mazda Protege 5 stuck in 3rd gear?

I have a 2003 Mazda Protege 5 automatic transmission. As recently as yesterday (10/6/2012) I changed the vacuum hose that runs from the throttle body to the air filter because there were 2 massive tears in the old hose. Now my car is somehow stuck in 3rd gear upon starting and I have to put a tiny screwdriver down the pin hole to the right of the gear shifter to get my car from park to reverse and eventually drive. Even when I put it in manual it stays in 3rd gear. When driving the transmission stays in 3rd gear and does not downshift or upshift. Please help, hopefully it is just a fuse or something because the transmission was fine when we took it for a test drive after putting the new vacuum hose on and then it all of a sudden stayed stuck in 3rd gear

How many miles can a mazda 3 or 6 or just a Mazda in general average before they quit? Are Mazda's good cars?

I'll try to answer your question the best that I can.. even though I've only had my 2009 Mazda 3 i touring value for about 6 weeks and have put 1205 miles on it(Got it with 15 miles). I gotta say, I was hesitant about purchasing this car, especially being that it was going to be my first new car and first car purchased on my own. That being said, I went ahead and purchased the extended warranty + gap insurance; ya know... just in case. Anyway, as far as the service side comes... I have a family friend who works at the dealership (Sales Manager) so.. no issues there. The car itself has driven flawless. Now, all that can change from here to say.. 100K miles... but honestly, I think that all depends on how you treat and service the car. From word of mouth, I've only heard positive feedback about the Mazda 3, and also 6(which I had considered) but went ahead with the more economical and practical choice. Only thing I had heard gone bad was a school friend of mine who's cousin had a Mazda 3, and who's radiator went bad. Personally, I think that was a special situation.. it was the girl's cousin who was careless, but I digress. Overall, it doesn't matter the car make or model.. just as long as you take care of the car and service it whenever it needs to be... then I believe it'll last.

p.s. I have a neighbor who drives a 1994 Mazda Protege, still running, even with 167,000-some miles on it. She just had a paint/restorative job done on the exterior and it's looking great!

Mazda rx8 weird noise????

Hi,
I just got an rx8 which is my first experience in owning a rotary engine. The engine doesn't sound like your typical engine, although there is a high pitched whistling when I accelerate in 1st and 2nd when I'm going slow. It sounds like a high pitched rc car and it's very loud. I have a loud custom exhaust as well so it sounds pretty lame if my engine sounds like an rc car racing. I'm thinking it could be my intake or a vacuum leak. Any one with more mechanical experience please help me out!!! :)

Mazda cx7 road noise?

The CX-7 is geared towards a certain group of customers, namely people who want the sportiness of a mazda car but the roominess of an SUV. The CX-7 delivers that in spades but at times its a little too sporty for its own good. For one the low profile tires on some are loud and there is wind noise at highway speeds. This comes with the territory of a high performance SUV. You could, like you said, buy some softer tires but that would take away from your handling and take away from what your CX-7 is, the sportiest 5 passenger around! The wind noise is unavoidable unfortunately the only thing I can tell you is enjoy the stereo and after awhile you wont even notice it(How often do you drive with the radio off anyway). The CX-7 does deliver sports car power and performance but it gives you sports car drawbacks, but you'll forgive it when you can make a quick pass at 70 miles an hour!!

What does it mean if your starter is making a grinding noise?

Honda Accord /Civic :Why Starter Making Grinding Noise1.Flywheel should be suspect firstly. You need go ahead and climb back under your 2006 Honda Civic or 2007 Honda Accord and remove the access panel under the bell housing of the transmission. This will give you access to the flywheel. Using a flashlight you can inspect the teeth on the flywheel for any abnormal wear, then use a ½ inch ratchet and correct size socket for the crankshaft pulley bolt, and turn the engine clockwise. This will allow you to slowly inspect the hidden areas of the flywheel that could be damaged. Be sure to mark the flywheel with white out or a marker so you can verify when you start and end as you rotate. If at any time you feel uncomfortable doing this, please enlist the assistance of a certified mobile mechanic. After check ,if the flywheel is damaged ,it will need to be replaced.2.If you are unable to see any issues with the flywheel itself, then the problem may lay in the electrical components of the vehicle. Some of the most common electrical problems are corroded electrical connections, an undercharged or bad battery, or a malfunctioning component:bad neutral safety switch (automatic transmission),bad clutch safety switch (manual transmission),bad starter relay, bad starter solenoid, corroded electrical connections in the starting circuit,worn-out part in the starter motor or some other system component. For example, the ignition switch has failed to supply proper voltage to the starting circuit causing the starter solenoid to partially engage which can create a grinding noise .In this case, you could check the battery/relay/solenoid /ignition switch. If it’s a small problem, you could buy some aftermarket replacements then fix it.If you aren’t sure and don’t know how to do ,maybe a new starter at hexautoparts for your honda accord civic or a certified mechanic can get you back on the road quickly and safely.Anyway,if you hear a harsh or grinding noise as you try to crank up the engine, you may have a loose starter motor (mounting bolts), or a flywheel or pinion gear with broken or worn-out teeth. If the gears on the flywheel and pinion aren't able to mesh properly, all you hear is the sound of metal teeth clashing loudly.Hope that helps.

My 2009 Nissan Altima steering will not turn?

The power steering fluid reservoir is probably empty (probably has a leak in the system) and without enough fluid the power steering pump wont work. That makes the wheel hard to turn and it usually makes some noise, especially when you try to turn the wheel. An empty reservoir can also cause the pump to overheat and be damaged because the fluid provides cooling and lubrication for it.

So find your power steering fluid reservoir and check the level on the dipstick attached to the cap. If it is low, or not registering, get some power steering fluid from an auto parts store (or Walmart), fill the reservoir, start the car, turn the wheel stop-to-stop several times slowly. Shut it off, check the fluid level again and add more if necessary. You may have to do this several times to bleed the air out of the system.

Your steering should eventually return to normal but you;ll have to keep an eye on the fluid level. If it loses fluid quickly, you may need the steering pump or rack-and-pinion unit replaced soon, or one of the power steering hoses. It's usually the pressure hose that goes bad.

Is my car/engine damaged by mis-shifting and stalling?

Hi..I recently learned how to drive stick shift(Still getting use to it though, but now can drive around town) I bought my first Manual a black 2004 Mazda Rx-8 and I stalled it like a total of 20 times..Once on my first hill, I stalled it three times in a row, the person behind me was making me real nervous...and I mis-shifted 3 different times! Twice from second to first and 2 times from thrid to second..My question is did I do any damage to my car, stalling this many times(The three times in a row one, worries me the most) and mis-shifting it? My dad car sounds fine when I drive, I don't hear any weird noises or see anything on the ground leaking..but I am paranoid and need some answers.

Battery warning lights in mazda 6?

There's an issue with our mazda. It acted a little weird and the battery warning light came on. Sure Shortly after, the car wouldn't start. We ended up getting a new battery because it tested bbad. Well after that the car still acted weird, it seemed like it had no power when we would drive it. And the red battery warning light was on again. So we took the car to our mechanic, assuming that it is the alternator. The mechanic's computer didn't detect anything and ensured us that it was NOT the alternator. He reset everything and the car now runs fine, HOWEVER, the battery light is stilll on. We hate to take it to Mazda to have it checked and fixed since they charge a fortune, especially if its an easy fix.
Any suggestions?

Why are motorcycles so much louder than cars or buses? Why can’t the noise be reduced?

This question has a number of good answers. But some I disagree with. Two points:First, most motorcycles as they come from the factory are fairly quiet. I’m on my 14th motorcycle and only one was particularly noisy. And it was noisy ONLY because I put high performance mufflers on it. I was childish and stupid… Mea culpa! Also, most motorcycles are so fast today that they don’t need more power. That motorcycle I referred to above was already possibly the fastest production motorcycle of the time. And I needed more power? Dumb…Second, many motorcyclists think that having a loud motorcycle makes them safer. Personal opinion, most of the time I think they just like to make noise because they want attention not safety (if they wanted safety, they would wear REAL helmets). As a motorcyclist and car driver I find these noise makers irritating. Irritating because they are distracting drivers from the act of driving. I see car drivers reaction when the noise makers ride by. It’s not good. And they are irritating because each individual one of them give the collective motorcyclist community a bad name. The law, at least where I live is pretty specific in terms of the db level that motorcycle can have. It’s rarely enforced because it requires a fairly expensive sound measuring device and that has to be calibrated before use every day.So, the noise pollution continues…One last point. Again, personal opinion. I truly understand the desire to go faster than the speed limit. It’s a pleasure I partake of on occasion… :-) All I have to say is that if I’m speeding AND my motorcycle is making excessive noise, do you think that raises the probabilities that I’ll get a ticket? You bet your whatever… :-)
