Can you represent someone else in court, like taking someone else’s dispute to court and representing one of them, even if you personally have no connection to the dispute?

In the U.S., with the exception of some minor administrative proceedings and a couple other exceptions not relevant here, if you are not currently licensed as an attorney, and you are representing someone other than yourself, you are committing a serious crime.A non-lawyer has the right to represent themselves. But they cannot represent anyone else. Even if the other party consents. Even if the court thinks it’s a good idea. Even if it’s a close family member. Even if the non-lawyer is an expert in the field. Practicing law without a license is a crime in every U.S. jurisdiction. In fact, if was determined after a court proceeding that a non-lawyer was representing anyone other than themselves, anything done in that proceeding would be null and void. I’ve seen this happen.Every state and the federal government have very strict laws about acting as a lawyer when you are not a licensed attorney.

Can a law student represent someone in court?

Many states have programs which allow law students to be admitted to practice law under very specific circumstances. This is based on being part of a law school clinic where you are being supervised by a lawyer and are practicing in a very limited area. Domestic violence, landlord/tenant and so on. There are also some areas of law, very limited, for which a person does not have to be a lawyer to represent someone. So a law student can represent someone, but so can a person who never went to law school. The main area for this is Social Security disability. Those are the only circumstances under which a law student may represent someone in court. A law student is not any different from a layperson otherwise. In fact, if a law student represents someone in court when not allowed to, that law student will likely find themselves in trouble with both their law school and later, the disciplinary board of any state in which they seek to practice law.

Do I have to be a lawyer to represent someone in court?

It depends on what you mean by ‘represent’.If according to you ‘represent’ means arguing a case on behalf of somebody else, then no, this is not permitted. While litigants may argue their cases by themselves, only a qualified lawyer can argue a person's case before the Court on their behalf. However, anyone can be authorized to pursue legal action on behalf of somebody else by means of a power of attorney. The person so authorized (known as the Constituted Attorney of the litigant) can appoint lawyers to pursue the case, affirm petitions, withdraw cases and generally act on behalf of the litigant with regard to the Court processes. There is, however, still the restriction that a Constituted Attorney cannot argue the case on behalf of the litigant.

Can you represent someone in court w/o a law degree?

Yes you can.

Anyone can represent anyone. But it must be by the consent of both parties-the one being represented and the one doing the representing.

Then, you have to convince the judge to allow it. No laws that I am aware of forbid the premise of my first paragraph, but any judge is free to allow or disallow the events unfolding withing the courtroom.

So long as you look professional, and can carry a legal argument, you should be alright.

Why do my friends always seem to get better marks than me in exams?

So in the question you have said: "Why do my friends ALWAYS seem to get better marks than me in exams?" and then you have started saying that you always used to do better than them.

It sounds to me like the biggest part of your problem is that you're jealous of your friends' success, which is a bit daft. Fine, so you used to do better than them? So what. You shouldn't base your opinions of whether you did well or not on your friends' scores. They might just have all been working hard, or had the luck of the draw with the questions... (You know those times when you haven't revised everything and are praying that the questions will be about the bits you remember??!!)

Or just maybe you got a bit too comfortable and didn't do your best?? It sounds like when you looked through the papers you found lots of little things that you feel you should have remembered etc, and that's fine. Next time, just calm down in the exam. Don't stress out that you have to perform a certain way. Just take ANY test one question at a time. Think about your answer before you just write the first thing that comes to your head, and try to allow yourself at least 10 minutes at the end of each exam to read back over what you've done. This way you might just pick up a few of the "stupid mistakes".

Overall - don't compare yourself to others, talk to your mum about any worries you're having, and just do your best. No-one can ask for any more than that. You are your biggest critic, work hard enough so that YOU are happy with your performance. You won't always get the exact grades you want, but as long as you can tell yourself that you did all you possibly could, then where's the problem?

Lastly - don't let your jealousy cause a rift in your friendship. You say you're used to being better than her? Well then it follows that she is so used to being just below you. Congratulate her on her good results and move on.

Just try. Revise and work hard and that's the only thing anyone can ask for.

I consider myself an amateur lawyer. Can I represent someone in court?

UKNo, you can’t.If someone you know is appearing without an attorney, they are allowed to have a “McKenzie friend”. This person is not allowed to talk to the Court, but they sit at the side, listen to the evidence with them and suggest questions and answers for them to give. They must not disrupt the proceedings, but they can write “Ask X who else was there” or “he’s trying to trick you, answer the question carefully” and pass the note to their “client” (you will see solicitors pass notes to the barristers sometimes in Court in just the same fashion). You can not legally charge for this service.I have acted as McKenzie friend for unrepresented parties in Family Court when they can’t afford to employ a solicitor. But no, you can NOT represent someone in Court. Even a legally qualified solicitor has no right of audience except in the lowest Courts. He has to employ a barrister or be a Solicitor-Advocate to address the more senior Courts, such as a Crown Court or a County Court.

Who was Eleanor Rigby and what does the song mean ?

"Eleanor Rigby" is a song by The Beatles, originally released on the 1966 album Revolver. McCartney originally imagined Daisy as a young girl, but anyone who cleaned up in churches would probably be older. If she were older, she might have missed not only the wedding she cleans up after but also her own. Gradually, McCartney developed the theme of the loneliness of old age, morphing his song from the story of a young girl to that of an elderly woman whose loneliness is worse for having to clean up after happy couples.

A promotional poster for the single from the UK.McCartney said he came up with the name Eleanor from actress Eleanor Bron, who had starred with the Beatles in the film Help!. Rigby came from the name of a store in Bristol, Rigby & Evens Ltd, Wine & Spirit Shippers, that he noticed while seeing his then-girlfriend Jane Asher act in The Happiest Days Of Your Life. He recalled in 1984, "I just liked the name. I was looking for a name that sounded natural. Eleanor Rigby sounded natural."

In the 1980s, a grave of an Eleanor Rigby was discovered in the graveyard of St. Peter's Parish Church in Woolton, Liverpool, and a few yards away from that, another tombstone with the last name McKenzie scrawled across it. During their teenage years, McCartney and Lennon spent time "sunbathing" there; within earshot distance of where the two had met for the first time during a fete in 1957. Many years later McCartney stated that the strange coincidence between reality and lyric could be a product of his subconsciousness, rather than being a meaningless fluke.

The actual Eleanor Rigby was born in 1895 and lived in Liverpool, possibly in the suburb of Woolton, where she married a man named Thomas Woods. She died on 10 October 1939 at age 44, which, because 1940 was a leap year, was exactly one year to the day before Lennon was born. Whether this Eleanor was the inspiration for the song or not, her tombstone has become a landmark to Beatles fans visiting Liverpool.

Can I practice law in other countries?

In general, no. It depends on the specific country in question, though, each has its own arrangements. In many cases you might need to do a conversion course to the local legal system - it's likely to be shorter and easier to complete in Commonwealth countries (where the law is more similar) than in others. Some lawyers are allowed to be Called to the Bar in other jurisdictions, but it's generally for the very senior, highly-regarded end of the profession, not for Mr. Average Lawyer or Miss N0t-Bad Lawyer. If you are a high flyer with an international reputation, you can get ad hoc admission to local bars for particular cases. See for example Alun Jones QC, from this membership of Chambers profile below.
