what year did world war 1 and 2 take place and who were they against? also what caused both of them to start and end. please explain this to me in an easy to understand way. thank you.

What are some reasons Germany isn't to blame for World War 1?

The other answers are partially right. Here is a map of Europe during WWI:The green are the entente, while the red are the central powers. Austria Hungary is what is called a dual monarch, a kingdom that is ruled by two crowns. Austria Hungary at the time was a potluck of different ethnic groups all jumbled into one name. Austria Hungary wanted to extend its control into the kingdom of Serbia, in the name of reuniting everyone under the old Hapsburg kingdom. However, The Serbs didn’t like this, and started rioting and revolting(if that’s a word) and wanted to break off from Austria Hungary’s sphere of influence. The Austrians were itching to invade Serbia from the start, but the Serbs had formed with an alliance with Russia, and the Austrians did not want to enter a war they could not win. So they turned to their pal Germany, who had recently been united in 1871 and had been making good relations with the Germans ever since. They wanted a confirmation that if the Austrians were attacked, the Germans would back them up. The Germans feverishly agreed (I’m still dumbfounded as to why) and reckless Austria led a reckless war against a strong Serbia-Russia and in some ways Britain and France coalition starting WWI as we know it today. So Germany was partly to blame for starting WWI as well, but it is wrong to put all the blame on them as the Austrians were the driving force due to their greedy behavior.

Does Germany recognise its guilt for starting World War One?

Careful study helps to assign responsibility. Were the Germans solely responsible? No. Was Germany prepared for war? Yes. Were they responsible for invading bordering countries literally within weeks of the initiation of the crisis? Yes. Did Germany have a well developed "advance" plan for the invasion of Belgium and then, France? Yes. Did Germany do what they could to avoid a war with Russia so they could conquer France first? Yes. Had Germany been engaged in a military build up before the crisis? Yes. Was the German surrender in 1918 the end of WWI? Yes. Is this response simplified as a dozen other countries were involved? Yes. Is this response oversimplified? No.Is it useful to study the patterns of war in Europe beginning with the Bourbon dynasty 1555 along with the Romanov and Hapsburg dynasties to best understand what happened in 1914? Yes.Why all this hard work? A severely abbreviated and fully muddled version of the so called truth can be found on Wiki and in most history books. THE truth is found with hard work and dedication all requiring time which supposedly, nobody has any of.  In an answer above, it is stated that in the 1920's the German government spent time and money "rewriting the history" of WWI. You are going to assume that this is the only time history has been "rewritten?" Relying on limited historical sources (like, perhaps, an internet discussion board) will assure all of us of never knowing what "really" happened ever.

Why didn't Germany attack through Luxembourg in World War 1 to avoid dragging Britain into the conflict?

That is a very good question. The answer is that Great Britain and France had what is called a political understanding: that is, Great Britain and France had an agreement with each other that the French fleet would defend British colonial holdings in the Mediterranean and in return the British fleet would defend the French Atlantic and Channel coasts. Great Britain would have had her warships defend the French coast no matter what, and likely would have gone to war as well. Another answer is that the Schlieffen Plan called for German forces to go around French soldiers defending the border, as France was prepared for a conflict with Germany but not with an enemy in Belgium, and only attacking through Luxembourg would have given France reasonable ability to counter the German movements. Belgium was the only way to make sure that the French wouldn’t be able to respond in time to stop the German advance on Paris, and if Paris fell, then France would fall as well. Going only through Luxembourg would still have given Britain ample reason for war, and meant that the Schlieffen Plan could not be carried out, guaranteeing the two-front war that the Germans feared and that the Schlieffen Plan tried (unsuccessfully) to avoid.

Who won World War 1?

World War One ended at 11am on the eleventh day of the eleventh month, in 1918. Germany signed an armistice (an agreement for peace and no more fighting) that had been prepared by Britain and France. At the start of 1918, Germany was in a strong position and expected to win the war. Russia had already left the year before which made Germany even stronger.Germany launched the 'Michael Offensive' in March 1918, where they pushed Britain far back across the old Somme battlefield. However their plan for a quick victory failed when Britain and France counter-attacked.Germany and her allies realised it was no longer possible to win the war.The Triple Alliance had been damaged. Some reasons for this included the fact that the Schlieffen Plan had failed in 1914 and the Verdun Offensive had failed in 1916. Germany was now losing the Great Battle in France and the German Navy had gone on strike and refused to carry on fighting. Furthermore, the United States joined the war in April 1917, which gave the Triple Entete greater power.Germany was not strong enough to continue fighting, especially as the USA had joined the war and hundreds of thousands of fresh American soldiers were arriving in France. This added greater military strength to the Triple Entente forces. The leaders of the German army told the German government to end the fighting. Kaiser Wilhelm, Germany's leader, abdicated (left his job) on 9 November 1918Two days later, Germany signed the armistice and the guns fell silent. People in Britain, France and all of the countries that supported them, celebrated the end of war - a war that had lasted four years and four months. On Paper No one lost but in practice Germany lost its rhineland, its navy, its army was stripped to a marginal force.its colonial possesions and a wide range of things under the treaty of versailes. austria hungary broke up,russian empire was overthrown, ottoman empire ceased to exist.obviously the victors are France, Great Britain, Italy, Japan, United States, Romania, Serbia, Belgium, Greece, Portugal, and Montenegro.
