relative density ( also known as specific gravity ) is calculates in liquids and solids compared to water ( water having a specific gravity of 1 ) and in gasses compaired to Air ( again having a specific gravity of 1 ) this is because air is the most abundant mixture on eart and water is the most abundant compoud on earth. e.g natural gasa has a S.g. of .55 this means it is about half the weight of air.

half-life is the amount of time it takes for half the nuclei in a sample of a radioactive isotope (unstable atom of element) to decay.

an example is element x. the half-life of element x is 1 billion years.

you have a 100 grams sample of element x.

after 1 billion years, half of the element x sample would have decayed into something else (so 50 grams of element x has not decayed).

and after 2 billion years, there would only be 25% of the original sample left (25 grams not decayed).

after 3 billion years, there would only be 12.5% of the original sample left (12.5 grams not decayed). and so on...

every half-life reduces the amount of the sample that is left by 50%.

if there are radioactive elements in something, whether it be a fossil of an organism or an ancient rock, the half-life of the element can be used to find out the age of the fossil or rock it's found in (by seeing what % of the original amount is left). i won't describe the formula, but it can be found online if you're interested in knowing it.
