Is the selection of MF's correct ? Fund names in ques details. Will be investing in Direct Dividend schemes.

Don't invest in dividend schemes. Invest in growth schemes. For the amount of 5-8k, choosing nine schemes is not wise. Restrict it to 3 or 4 funds.Don't invest in 3funds in the same category. E.g. you have chosen 3 funds in ELSS.Consider axis long term or franklin India tax shield alone. Similarly you have chosen three funds in mid/small cap category. What is your goal? What is your risk tolerance? How many years you want to invest?Based on the answers to these, you can choose the scheme and split your investment. All most all the funds you choosen are top rated funds.Consider adding a debt fund to your portfolio.Happy investing!

Is this sentence grammatically correct: “MFS helps people all over the world who are sick or injured as a result of war and disaster, no matter what their race, religion, or politics is.”?

I would say that it's all correct except for the final word.MFS helps people all over the world who are sick or injured as a result of war and disaster,‘no matter what their race, religion, or politics is.’I would change ‘politics is' for political affiliation’. It looks and probably sounds too formal but it actually fits in with context perfectly.Political affiliation just means the political group or party you support or belong to:MFS helps people all over the world who are sick or injured as a result of war and disaster, no matter what their race, religion, or political affiliation ”?

What return will I get if I invest 20,000 in MFs for one year?

First of all you need to mention your Risk Profile and what is the purpose of investing 20K for one year.Once I know your Risk Profile and Your Goal behind investing I would give you a better answer.Looking at the tenure of 1 year I would suggest you to invest in Debt Mutual Funds which will give you pre tax 8–9%. Invest in Credit Opportunties Debt Mutual Fund/ Short Term Debt Mutual Fund.Nifty PE is trading at 23.33 currently. You cannot put 20k for 1 year in Equity MFs at such high valuation of the market.Put your money currently in Short Term Debt Mutual Fund / Ultra Short Term and once market corrects by 4–5% shift 10k in Equity. Maker sure you check the exit load of Short Term Fund which needs to zero.I would suggest you to invest in Franklin India Ultra Short Bond Fund- Super Instituonal Plan or Franklin India Low Duration Fund. Both of them has zero percent exit load. Once the Markets correct switch 10k to Franklin India Prima Fund or Franklin India High Growth Companies Fund. The switch will give you an Alpha.Happy Investing.www.mywealthwiz.com

How do you properly set up an abbreviation when writing an essay? For example, I don't want to keep on saying "magnetic field strength" and say "MFS" instead.

It depends on what you mean by essay. If you are writing an actual paper, for instance, for school, then you use one of the formats accepted by your teacher. Two of the commonly used formats are the “Modern Language Association” (MLA) and the American Psychological Association (APA). Here is a website that explains when to use these formats: Writing Resources - Essay Help | APA vs. MLA: What Style Guide Do I Use?When I was in school, I was taught to use the APA format, and that meant spelling the words out the first time they were used, followed by the initials in parenthesis. After that, just the initials were used. However, that was some time ago, and the formats may change from year to year.So find out which style guide is best, and then follow what that format says about such things as “Magnetic Field Strength”. (MFS)Also, there are software programs that can be purchased, that will help you correctly format your paper.

In the current Indian scenario, is SIP or bulk investment better for MFs?

No matter what the scenario is investing whether through a SIP or a lump sum should be based on what you can invest at that time. The market scenario should not be a big influencing factor. Let me elaborate. You should invest a lump sum any time you have surplus money sitting in a bank account. Investing it even when the market is high will generate higher returns for you over the long term compared to waiting for the market to correct (your money sitting in the bank account gathering dust all this time). If you have hopes of market correcting itself then you could invest the lump sum in trenches over the next few days or weeks or even months. You should invest through a SIP if you wish to accumulate a large sum by investing a reasonable amount every month. But any time you wish to take advantage of the falling market, you could invest a lump sum. But then the idea is not to keep too much surplus sitting in your bank and keep your money working for you.Hope this helps!!!You can find the latest Top Ranking Mutual Funds here for your SIP or lump sum investment.Happy investing!!!

Filing W-7 (iTIN application) form with two (!) 1040X tax forms?

You only file one W-7. The ITIN is permanent until such time as you receive an SSN. You file the W-7 with the first return that requires an SSN or ITIN.

File the oldest 1040-X with the W-7 and mail the package to Austin. When you get the ITIN letter back from the IRS, file the remaining amended return(s).

Should Joint Account tax return form 1099-DIV be completed by one holder or both?

MFJ 2 cotaxpayer for the 2013 tax filing season with 2 exemptions 1 for each cotaxpayer.
But you do say that you will be filing as MFS returns and your name and SSN is on the 1099-DIV then you would report the amounts from the 1099-DIV on the correct lines of your 1040 FIT return during the 2014 tax filing season.
AS joint owners of the 1099-DIV amounts you would need to divide the amounts up and issue out to your spouse the share of the 1099-DIV amounts that would have to be correctly reported on the correct line of your spouse 1040 FIT return during the 2014 tax filing season for the 2013 tax year.
Hope that you find the above enclosed information useful. 01/18/2014
