Michigan Unemployment

Michigan Unemployment?

Is it possible to collect back unemployment in Michigan? I am a teacher and last year the private school that I was working at change their contract renewal from June to August. This left all the staff not collecting a check for three months. When the head of the school overheard the staff talking about collecting unemployment, she snapped and said that we are not entitled to it and we "will not collect it" No one filed because we all wanted our jobs back in September. (We didn't want to tick her off)

Well I just went to the accountant to file my taxes and he said that I was entitled and that what she did was intimidation! Employers have to pay into unemployment. I was lucky and was offered a job at another school, so I am not worried about making anyone upset anymore, but now I am wondering if there is anything that I can do to get some of the unemployment money that I would have received.

Michigan Unemployment?

Unemployment Insurance benefits are figured on how much you earned during the "Base Period." The Base Period is the first four of the last five COMPLETED quarters (3 month periods).

As the current quarter (1Q12) (Jan. 1, 2012 - Mar. 31, 2012) is not completed, it does not count. The last completed quarter (4Q11) (Oct. 1, 2011 - Dec. 31, 2011) also, does not count. The current Base Period is the four quarters preceding that, so the Base Period is 4Q10 - 3Q11 (Oct. 1, 2010, - Sep. 30, 2011). Only the income you earned during that period qualifies for any possible U.I. benefits. So, even if you do qualify for benefits, it's not going to be much.

The main thing that determines IF you qualify for any benefits at all is the reason you terminated the job where you earned the $3568. Generally, if you quit or got fired, you cannot draw any benefits. About the only way you can draw benefits is if you were laid off. You have to have lost the job through no fault of your own. So if you quit (your choice), or got fired (your fault), then you will not receive any benefits.

If you have already filed a claim, they will notify you of any benefits that you might get.

Hope this is not too confusing for you, but actually figuring exactly how much you might get is a complicated formula that only the employment agency can figure.

Michigan unemployment?

Yesterday I was fired, I went through half of my work day before finally being fired. My office manager had stated she told me not to check insurance until lunch, which was never actually relayed to me. And it's really all I could do due to the fact I didn't have authorization to do anything in the system we used at work. I was also told I went to the bathroom while "upfront was extremely busy and it was too much for her to handle." Mind you I had the stomach flu so I was in and out of the bathroom all day. The thing that bothers me is I had my 90 day review about a week before the incident that occurred yesterday and was given a 3 dollar raise. I applied for unemployment and put "employee misconduct" due to that seemingly was the issue with the office manager. Now I don't believe unemployment falls on them, however I had been terminated from my job prior to this one due to my manager telling me I was to work on greet that night and I had gone to the back to help run food when one of the servers stated she couldn't get to her table until all the food was ran and asked if I could do it due to upfront being extremely slow. When I was given a termination notice it said I had "lied about seating tables and not staying at my job post when asked to" which yes I believe I was somewhat in the wrong with that but I never lied about what was said my manager just refused to listen to me that night. My question is will my unemployment officer listen to my reasoning or not?

no

Michigan Unemployment - Marvin Question?

I was on unemployment all summer but had 8 weeks left when I went back to work for a different company. I stopped calling Marvin because I was working full time. The company shuts down between Christmas and New Years so I refiled a claim online.

I answered all the questions and got a confirmation number and Marvin call date at the end. I never received anything in the mail. I called Marvin and answered all the questions. At the end he said something to the effect that my answers were accepted and if they are approved, a check will be mailed as soon as possible.

Has anyone else gotten that message and gotten their money? It has been almost a week since I called and no check. Of course, I can't get through to the Inquiry line either.

Please help!

When will michigan unemployment send out my W2?

It's a 1099-G not a W-2, and will be sent by the end of January. And timing this year isn't necessarily the same as last year.

How do I get my W2 electronically from Michigan Unemployment?

The Michigan Unemployment office MUST have ALL W-2's in the mail by January 31st.
However, they only use the address you had as of December 2013. Therefore, if you did NOT change your address until this month - then the W-2 will go to your old address and then returned to the Michigan Unemployment office. W-2's can NOT be forwarded. If it is returned to them - then you need to go in and talk with them in order to get your 2013 W-2.

Don't enroll for any more than 11 credits in a semester, or else you'll be full-time and therefore "unavailable" for work. (Yeah, yeah -- nonsense, but that is how the law defines unavailability when you're a student!)Also, get a job off campus -- if possible -- because university employees do NOT receive UI; they are forbidden by state law from earning it! (What another asinine policy!)And although it's been October 2012 since the most recent activity, I answer here for the benefit of others who find this question.

Michigan Unemployment Insurance Question?

I quit my job due to personal reasons in April. I didn't really describe these reasons in my application to MI UIA. (there were also complications developing between the company and myself that was affecting the relationship between myself and the company). At the time, I felt it was in my best interest and the companies to separate by voluntary resignation.

I recently applied (first time) for MI UIA. In the applications process, I met all of the requirements and received a letter stating I qualified for benefits. I had not received any payments from UIA yet and on the UIA website I sent in a message asking if there was any problems with my applications process or anything that I needed to be aware of in the process to help move it along. I have followed all of the instructions and have signed up at MWA and the MTB. As far as I was aware, I was doing everything I was told to do.

Then, I received a response which stated: A determination regarding your qualification for benefits was pending and was resolved. Please allow 3 to 5 days to receive and continue to report to MARVIN on your scheduled day and time. (This gave me the impression that everything was all taken care of and I would be receiving my first payment.)

Today, I received a letter stating this: It is found that you voluntarily quit your job without good cause attributable to the employer. You are disqualified for benefits under MES Act, Sec. 29(1)(A)

Now, the reason is complicated and It was between both myself and the company. I plan to appeal this decision but before I do, I am asking for some advice on how to approach this. I understand that receiving UIA is more difficult for those who voluntarily quit a job, is there a list of requirements which the UIA looks for in determining eligibility in these kind of matters? Any other info will help as well.

Please only respond if you know information that pertains to this and please no ads.

Michigan unemployment contact problems?

I just had this same problem last week. The phone lines open at 8:00 AM, get up at about 7:45 and start calling, it will say they are not open yet, but just keep calling. And as soon as its 8:00 you should get through. You will be put on hold but you will actually be given the option to speak to someone, and your call will be answered in order it was received. I called at 8:00 am and was only on hold for 20 min. and I spoke to a real person. That is the only way you will actually get through. But be sure to call at exactly 8:00 am. I am actually trying to get throguh to MARVIN right now.
