Microphone For Home Band

Can you play Rock Band using only a microphone? Do you have to play with the instruments or can you just sing?

No u don't have 2 use an imstrument u can kist use the mic :)

If you could only afford to spend $1,000 on microphones for recording music in your home studio, which one's would you choose?

8 used SM57s - $400 -> drums, loud guitars, other instruments1 - u47 style “tube” microphone $500 -> vocals, acoustic guitar, possible overhead drums1 - MXL condenser kit (2 mics) $69 on sale -> drum overheads [these are cheap filler]In real life I have Senheiser 421s, various AKG for my condensers, Neumann, Audio technics AT4041 & Pro 37, Beyer Ribbon mics (rarely used).I also have some u47 and u87 clones. While they sound great … they rarely sound like the “real deal”. The biggest issue I have with clones is that they are often too bright, and need some EQ roll off on the high end. I feel design engineers are worried about specs and 20–20k response rather than experimenting and listening to what sounds good. A good pre amp also helps with getting the right sound and is a must with the SM57s due to the low output. The above pics were setup tests to compare the clones to the real deal.None of the clones sounded like their description, but all well worth the money. We were playing a game called “guess the real mic”. Without EQ , everyone playing could guess the real mic nearly 100% of the time. After EQ on the clone only, below 50%.

Wii rockband microphone not working?

Are you using a separate wii remote along with the mic? It's not enough to just plug the mic in. A wii remote (a separate one, not attached to a guitar or drums) must be on for the game to register that someone wants to sing. You do your selecting of character and difficulty, etc, with the wii remote.

Can I use any USB microphone for wii's just dance 2014 game?

There should be ones at gamestop to use. They look like a microphone and have a giutar hero or high school musical logo on it. I have one for guitar hero but using a non gaming one might be taking a chance it wont work

Where can I download a free PC driver for the rock band microphone?

there will be a very noticeable delay between speaking through the rock band mic and it coming out of the speakers. however if you would like to do it anyway here are 2 methods. the 1st allows for recording while hearing your voice, the second doesnt but does not require downloading software.

1. download a program that has software playthrough. if you do not already have one, give audacity a try. its free (and open source)
2. install with all of the default settings.
3. open the program and go to edit - preferences.
4. make sure the recording device is Logitech USB Microphone (thats the rock band mic) and make sure your playback device is your computers sound card.
5. click the check beside of Software Playthrough
6. click Ok and start recording (the big red circle near the top of the screen)

if you would like to test for the delay without downloading and installing anything (for windows XP):

1. go to the control panel and open up sounds and audio devices
2. click the Voice tab at the top.
3. for voice recording device select Logitech USB Microphone (the rock band one) and make sure the voice playback device is your computers soundcard.
4. click apply then repeat step 3. (i had to do this twice before the setting was applied)
5. click test hardware.
6. click next, wait for the bar to move across the screen (it may take a minute) then click next again.
7. while this screen is up you may speak into your microphone and your voice will come out of your speakers.

Song by Ween, "It's Not a Microphone, It's a Bong"?

There's a song by the band Freshly Baked titled "Bongwater" that has "It's Not a Microphone, It's a Bong" as its chorus. They're a jam band. Here's their myspace:

When buying a microphone what does Channel B/D and P/R stand for?

It does not matter which one you choose if you are just buying one mic system and you have no other wireless mics. It would matter if you had other wireless mic systems because two systems can not operate on the same frequency.

What type of USB microphone is ideal for Saxophone Recordings?

Get a Zoom H2. You can use it anywhere and record anywhere - or you can use it as a USB microphone. They are amazing. I record our bands with them. They have 4 microphones built in. The quality is so good, you could even release the recording commercially in my opinion.

They have built in compression/limiter - and you can use the device as a playback machine too. They can record to 24bit/96kHz linear PCM and MP3. You then plug it in via USB and copy the recordings into your computer. And as I've already mentioned, you can also use it as a USB microphone.

If you want, I can send you a recording of one of my bands (jazz/improv band).
