Military Movie Titles

Looking for a movie title (Military Comedy 90's-00's)?

There was a movie I watched on TV about 3 years ago. I remember the basic synopsis but tried google searching for it and couldn't find anything.

It's about a man that for some reason ends up getting stranded at a small, remote, snow covered army base in the middle of nowhere; it might have been Antarctica.
The other people that work there mistake him for a new Private that's been sent there to take over the position of writing the Army post's weekly newspaper.
The only other details I remember were that the daily announcements made over the PA speaker were funny in a quirky way, much like the rest of the movie's humor.

Whats some good Us military movies?

brothers,
boys from company C
hamburger hill
pearl harbor
we were soldiers once
the hurt locker
black hawk down
Platoon
full metal jacket
the deer hunter
Apocalypse Now
saving private ryan

are a few of my favorites.

EDIT: John H,
AHH I forgot that one, Tuskeegee Airmen, NOW that was a darn good movie.

Worst uniform mistakes in movies about the military?

I wish I could remember the name of the movie. I watched it late on HBO about 20 years ago. It was a sequel (I think it was the 6th in a series).
Anyway, it was an even worse B movie Air Force version of Under Siege.
Basically, some former Air Force SOF guy pissed someone off, lost his clearance, and was basically deliver the mail in the missile field (in a Jeep no less). During one of his distro runs, he stumbles upon some blonde haired Islamic terrorists that take over a launch facility (which looks nothing like a real MMIII complex), and uses his Kung-Fu to save the day.
Pretty much everyone's uniforms were jacked up, and everything they said and did was unrealisted. SAC was gone, still in the movie. This was in the brief period when McPeak had AF officers wearing Navy-style rank. The producers got ahold of the new service dress coats, which didn't have epaulets, and instead of putting Navy-style rank on the sleeves, just had pin on rank on the shoulders. None of the 'missileers' had a pocket rocket.
This movie made Iron Eagle IV look like Oscar material. It was right down there with some other made for cable movie about a 300-pound 40 year old captain with long hair flying F-16s in the Balkans (the budget was so low, all of the other 'American' aircraft were obvious old Soviet planes and helicopters).

Oh, speaking of Iron Eagle IV, I loved the Security Police that had their badges pinned onto their berets.

Looking for the title to an early 80's HBO movie.?

All Summer in a Day is the only one I can think of.. it's based on a story by Ray Bradbury.

It took place on another planet, and only one girl had ever seen the sun.. this her one remaining chance to see it, they locked her in a closet.

The movie "Bridge of Spies" begins with a title card that says '1957...the height of the Cold War.' How accurate is this? Did the Cold War have one point that was clearly more tense than any other?

This is an excellent question. While tensions were always high during the Cold War, there were definitely rises and falls in the tension levels. Having lived through all of those years, these would be my high tension years:1949 USSR tests an atomic bomb1955  USSR tests first hydrogen bomb1956  Hungarian Revolt ends with Soviet show of military strength1962  Cuban Missile Crisis: this is the moment the Cold War was at its hottest1968. The Prague Spring1989. The fall of the Wall, the Velvet Revolution in CzechoslovskiaI would say that the movie correctly depicts 1957, however, as being a high point in the protracted Cold War. In late 1956, Soviet Premier Nikita Khrushchev delivered his famous "We will bury you" speech and advances in weaponry and space exploration (Sputnik) made it not seem entirely implausible.
