How do you create a server in Minecraft?

There are a few ways you can make a “Server” in minecraft. You can make a server from your computerWarning Please note that running server software on your computer without a clear understanding of what you are doing may make your system vulnerable for attacks from outside.[1]How do I create a Minecraft server from my computer? How To Make A Server On WindowsHow To Make A Server On MacNow, If your computer is to slow to run a server, or if you don’t want to be hacked. There are many websites which host servers for you. Here are just a few that I trust.MCProHostingBisectHostingMinecraft-HostingCubedHostYou can choose From many different server options like, Spigot, Bukkit, Vanilla, Modpack, (ie. FTB)Or there are other options as well,RealmsNot really a “server” You can’t add mods, but you can invite some of your friends to play, Adventure maps or even build. And, you do have to pay $8.00 a month.LANBasically LAN is when you can only play with other people on the same network as you. So if your friend comes over, or maybe even if you have siblings and want to play some Vanilla with them you just setup a LAN world and they can join. You can have mods on LAN but, you have to have exactly the same mods, with all the exact same version numbers and configuration, except for some mods that are client-side only (e.g. minimaps, Optifine, MAtmos, etc.) which don't need to be the same or even present on both sides. The best way to test this isn't to check every mod you have — the easiest way is to just try. Assuming you're using Forge to install Minecraft mods, any mismatch with the hosting player's Minecraft mods will be detected by Forge, and it will refuse their connection with a message telling them what they're missing or need to get rid of before trying to connect again.[2]Footnotes[1] Tutorials/Setting up a server[2] Will Minecraft LAN with friend work if both have same mods installed?

Is Minecraft Forge Safe?

One of my friends has started a minecraft server. Originally, I could get on it, but now I just get a message saying I need "Minecraft Forge." It seems thaey have installed some mods, and now I need to have them installed too. Is it safe to install this "Minecraft Forge?" I want to play on their server, but I don't really like messing around with mods from 3rd parties. I want to make sure that this is safe (ie. its not going to have any viruses, nor is it going to look through my personal files)

Thanks to anyone who can provide info!

Oh, and please note "get it," or "don't get it, it's bad," or any other thing like that is not a helpful answer, so please don't put that

Minecraft, my friend can't connect to my forge server?

My friend and were playing on my vanilla minecraft server and everything was going great. We decided to switch over to a mine craft forge server. So I downloaded Minecraft forge installer for 1.6.4, and I installed the server. i double clicked the forge jar thing that it made, and then got all the folders and stuff. I made all the necessary files and added my desired mods (9 or so) and added the same mods to my mine craft client and I could connect flawlessly. (using the direct connect and entering localhost). My friend, however, cannot connect to the server. It just says "Connecting to server" indefinitely on his screen. On the terminal window, it says "end of stream for" (what I think is my friends ip). He has all the correct mods and the server on his server screen has for green bars. what is the problem here? (I am using a mac and running minecraft 1.6.4

How do I make a multiplayer Minecraft server?

So here is what I think you should consider.  Running it at home versus running it in the cloud. At home:My PC uses 500W and I live in Chicago.  In Chicago a kilowatt hour is about 16 cents.  So lets do a little math.500W * 24 hours = 12 Kilowatt hours12 Kilowatt hours * $0.16 = $1.92 per day$1.92 * 365 days in a year = $700.80 per yearIn the Cloud:If you wanted a decent server that might be able to handle 10-15 maybe 20 people you can find one at about $25 per month.  Try something like Digital Ocean.  I think they even have instruction on how to setup a minecraft server. So a little math.$25 per month * 12 months in a year = $300Conclusion:$700 electricity cost or $300 cloud server bill?  Hands down, go with using a server in the cloud.  You'll get great bandwidth and you'll pay less than half in operating costs.  Plus your gaming PC isn't held hostage by your Minecraft server.I would put a step by step on how to setup your server but that depends on how and where you do it.  Again check Digital Ocean, I remember seeing them having a 'how to' for Minecraft servers and it was specific to their service.Hope that helps!Edit: Digital Ocean How To - How To Set Up a Minecraft Server on Linux
