Missed Period What Could Be The Cause Help

Can stress cause you to miss your period?

Yes stress can definitely be a big factor in missing your period. Take it from someone that it has happened to. I missed my period before for almost 3 to 4 weeks due to stress. I took pregnancy test and I kept thinking what is wrong with me! Yes the doctor told me that stress from school and other related issues was the factor and exercise should help ! Also some other factors could be if you play sports or are under weight.

Can bulimia cause a missed period?

First off let me start by saying I'm sure you don't want to hear the lecture about needing to go to a counselor and get mental help blah blah blah. I got an "A"....96 % in psychiatric nursing so I completely understand what you are going through, well not completely because I'm not in your shoes, but have some understanding of it. Being that you are not asking advice on how to stop being bulemic or how to get help, we will skip that part of the lecture....I'm sure you know as well as others that it's not good for you, but what others don't understand is that it is not so easy to stop, even though you are aware of the consequences. But to get to what you are asking, yes having bulimia can cause you to skip a period. It might have taken your body awhile to catch up to the illness to realize that something is just not quite right. Having anorexia or bulimia can cause missed or irregular periods. Yes they say that underweight women can miss periods and all of that stuff, but overweight and normal weight women can as well. Also, assuming that you are suffering from this disease, you are probably under a lot of stress as well and that could cause your period to be missed. Having any illnesses (such as what you have) can cause you to miss your period or be late. If you are certain that you are not pregnant, I'd leave it to the bulimia that's causing the missed periods. However, if your periods continue to act funny in the next few months then I'd go to your doctor and make sure nothing else physically is going on. As for the bulimia, I'm sure you know what to do if you decide to get help. Hope this helps and keep in mind, any serious changes in your body can cause delays or missed periods. Excessive amounts of stress, CHANGE IN DIET, ILLNESS, all of these things--because they effect the cortisol hormone and all the other hormones in our body. If our hormones are messed up and not working how they are used to, then your period becomes irregular....it's very common to happen. Take care of yourself hun and I hope this helps you!

Other causes of missed period?

I'm also interested in this subject because my sister has problems with her period as well. In her situation it was hormones.

I pulled this information right off of the WebMD website. It is very helpful when you need medical information and you can go straight there next time you have a medical question.

"If you are not pregnant, other causes of missed or irregular periods include:

Excessive weight loss or gain. Although low body weight is a common cause of missed or irregular periods, obesity also can cause menstrual problems.

Eating disorders, such as anorexia or bulimia. (For more information, see the topic Anorexia Nervosa or Bulimia Nervosa.)

Increased exercise. Missed periods are common in endurance athletes.

Emotional stress.

Illness.

Travel.

Medications, such as hormonal birth control methods, which may cause lighter, less frequent, more frequent, or skipped periods.

Hormonal abnormalities, which cause fluctuating levels of the hormones needed to support menstruation.

Illegal drug use.

Problems with the pelvic organs, such as imperforate hymen, polycystic ovary syndrome, or Asherman's syndrome.

Breast-feeding. Many women do not resume regular periods until they have completed breast-feeding.

Premature ovarian failure is when you stop menstruating before age 40. Surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation therapy to the abdomen or pelvis may cause premature ovarian failure.

Other diseases such as irritable bowel syndrome, tuberculosis, liver disease, and diabetes can cause missed or irregular periods, although this is rare. However, if any of these diseases are present, you will usually have other symptoms besides menstrual irregularities.

If you've skipped a period, try to relax. Restoring your life to emotional and physical balance can help. Many women miss periods now and then. Unless you are pregnant, chances are your cycle will return to normal next month. "

If it doesn't return, contact your doctor for further information. Hope this helps!

Can chlamydia cause a missed period?

Yes, a chlamydia infection can mess with a woman's cycles.

By the way, if you do have chlamydia you of course need real medical attention, not self medicate with some dodgy herbal pills like the previous answer says. Chlamydia can have serious consequences, this is no time to experiment with alternative medication, you need to just nuke the germs.

Do tell the doctor you think you may be pregnant. If you do have chlamydia AND are pregnant (which would be an incredible coincidence, but is not impossible) the doctor will take that into account when prescribing antibiotics.

I hope you turn out to be fine!

Can anxiety/stress cause a missed period?

I've missed my
Period last month & I've never done anything sexual at all. Btw I'm 13 & got my period when I was in 6th grade & now I'm in 8th. So could stress/anxiety cause a missed period? And exactly how much stress/anxiety? I've also been stressing over not getting it. Could that make things even worse? I'm worried that I could some how be pregnant even thought I've never had sex is that possible? Okay thank you.
Again I'm 13 around 5'5 and weigh about 115 lbs.

What causes you to have a missed period but you're not pregnant?

Hi! How old are you? If you are quite young, say under 25, then it is very normal for your cycles to not be regular. Sometimes you can miss one completely. Sometimes you can have more than one a month.Unless you have any other underlying causes that could be a cause for concern, for instance, stress, anxiety then I wouldn’t worry. How is your weight? If you are underweight and have always previously had regular periods then this can trigger amenorrhea ( a cease in periods). Maybe you’re athletic and do lots of exercise, so even if you are not strictly underweight, you could be putting extra strains on your body and not eating enough to compensate. If you think this may be the case then, if you are able, maybe ease up on the exercise, eat more of healthful foods. If you are restricting your eating and are worried that your eating is disordered, then this firstly can cause your periods to stop, but can also have long-term repercussions with regard to your bone health and your emotional health. If this is the case, please do speak to your doctor, speak to those who love you and get help. So, in short don’t worry unless you feel that you should be worried (underlying cause). I know that sounds vague, but hopefully some of the above will help. Your body is a finely tunes machine, but it doesn’t get totally tuned into its functions until you are older. I hope this helps.

Are there any STDs that can cause girls to miss their period?

The first thing a woman wants to check when she is suffering from missed period, is to make sure that she is not pregnant. The next concern with sexually active women that are having trouble with their menstrual cycle, is to ensure that there are no sexually transmitted diseases that she is suffering from.

These can be diseases such as gonorrhoea, chlamydia or syphilis for example, as they all have a tendency to create missed period. They certainly are something that can be of a concern, if protective sex has not been practiced.

Identifying that a STD is the potential cause of the missed period is most important. Most times early treatment means a success in completely eliminating the disease. In many cases antibiotics are utilized as a form of treatment. However, there are some STDs that there is no cure from, such as HIV or other conditions such as Hepatitis B and C.

One of the problems is that gonorrhoea at one time was quite easily cured, but it is now being noted that it is becoming resistant, to the types of antibiotics that were originally used. Missed period is just one of many symptoms that can be present with a STD. The symptoms vary and their severity is determined by the progression of the Sexually Transmitted Disease.

There are specific tests that will be used to determine if there is a STD present, and it is also most important to know which particular one that it is, in order to be able to find the right treatment.

Therefore any woman that is suffering from missed period really needs to have a thorough check-up, particularly if she is sexually active, to rule out any possibility of the cause being STDs. It should not just be assumed that the irregularity in the menstrual cycle will correct itself as the problem will only escalate as long as the STD is present if this is the cause.

Need help please! Can gallbladder problems cause missed periods?

Hi. So I was wondering if gallbladder problems can cause missed periods? I just found out last week that my gallbladder doesn't work right. I'm 33 days late on my period though. I'm really worried I could be pregnant and my HCG hormones aren't strong enough to be detected because I'm 15. The chances of me being pregnant are pretty bad. Like 85%. But could all of these symptoms just be caused by my gallbladder??? Please help and tell me what I should do!! Thanks(:
