Is Barbazon Acting and modeling a scam?

So I've been reading a lot of answers for this question, but I wanted to make my very own question of everything I have a question about. So I have an audition next week and my mom said it's not too much to get excited about, but I was really excited. Anyway the only thing is I'm not really tall. I'm only 5,0 & I'm 13. Im not super skinny but Im not chubby, I think I'm a good size but i know how they like slim/skinny so I dont know. But anyway if you spend your money on this do they ACTUALLY get you gigs and magazines? If not please tell me I dont wanna waste my time. And tell me about the height thing too please? Do y'all think its worth it?

Eldorado is totally right. As much as I'm sure this is your dream and hearts desire, you and your mom are about to be scammed BIG TIME. Nothing will come of this except emptying your bank account. They don't want YOU real bad, they want your money. Places like this (JRP, Barbizon, etc) are about as close to legalized theft as possible.

Of course she acts like she love you and your 'look' - they want you to spend $$$$$ on their program. An 'eye and mouth model' - is she serious???? I've been around the entertainment industry a long time, and everything she is telling you is a joke. There is a category where some people are 'hand models', but that's it. Anyone with a pretty face is an 'eye and mouth model'. You are being sold on a lie.

Please, please, please don't proceed with this. I know it sucks as you think this is your way into your dream, but I assure you it is not. The amount of money that Barbizon will have you spend, could so much better be spent on legit needs like headshots, and classes from respected teaches within this industry.


ps. Barbizon doesn't have real 'agents' - (they can call themselves whatever they like - I can sit in a garage and call myself a car but it doesn't make me one) as they are NOT a real agency. They are just an overpriced, non-respected, joke of a 'modeling' school.

BTW - Please have your mom read these responses as we are only trying to save you from what will be a heartbreaking situation. Sorry.

Is Barbizon school for modeling/acting legit...?

i did barbizon and i payed $1500. it's worth it because you get your pictures at the end and you do a fashion show and you get makeup and they teach you the basics for real. it's not a scam but it is alot of money for a short lesson. i got more info off of the internet and youtube makeup videos than barbizon honestly. i met some cool girls but at the end, i gave it an okay. i dont think you should do it, because it's not worth it. it's not a scam but there's more that their keeping from you for being a top model. but you do some cool classes and it gave me the inspiration today to be a model. and sometimes this agency will invite you to a place to audition for them. don't believe what other people say, this is coming from my true mind from Barbizon. you know what you're getting yourself into before you do it so it's there lost of money.

Question Barbizon modeling and acting interview?

As a previous Barbizon employee, I can tell you that Barbizon is not an agency, it is a modeling and acting school.

You will most likely be accepted into one of the acting/modeling programs, but be aware that it will cost you about $2300.

Barbizon is good if you want to learn how to act/model/sing/dance, but it is not guaranteed that you will make a career of it. It is also a great if you want to build confidence, they do very well with that! They do have great teachers, and that is what you're paying for, as well as for the class materials. Think of it as a college that requires tuition, except it is not accredited.

They do work with agents, but the agents are usually picky on who they want. If you're lucky, sometimes they have opportunities for side work, but that doesn't happen very often.

It's really your parent's decision, especially since it's costly for some.

Questions about Barbizon Modeling.?

If you live in NYC there is no reason to ever go to a modeling school. They do not increase your chances of getting into an agency as no school can make you taller, thinner or give you higher cheekbones. You either have the right look or you don't. And any agency will train you themselves after they sign you - that's why almost every agency has a New Faces division for inexperienced models where you learn on the job through lower paid jobs and test shoots. And it can actually work against you with some of the big agencies. I worked for a top NY agency and our Director would not sign anyone who said they went to any modeling school as he felt the poses and walks they taught were too pageanty and that it was impossible to unteach these habits. He wanted girls with no training that the agency could train themselves

I would not bother spending $3000+ for any modeling school. Just apply to agencies - almost every agency in NYC starts signing models at age 13 or 14

A modeling school is fine if you have rich parents and you want to learn how to put on makeup, dress for your body type, improve your posture, make new friends and pretend to be a model for a few weeks. But it's not going to get you into an agency if you don't have the right height, face and body to begin with

Is Page Parkes Center of Modeling and acting a scam?

I'm guessing your in Houston TX (or around the area) since Page Parkes seems to do most of it's scouting around there.

Page Parkes is no different than Barbizon, JRP, Millie Lewis, Cassablancas or any of the other modeling schools out there. They want to sell you classes - not becuase they're interested in your talent but becuase they want your money.

I've been in the industry for 8 years now and I've not met a single model who's been taken by these kinds of companies who felt the overly inflated prices they paid were worthwhile in the end. Save your money, pass on these guys and find good reputable people to work with instead.

Any company passing as an agency who wants money up front for anything is a scam. If you're interested in modeling and really would like to get started visit OneModelPlace.com - it's a huge online community for the industry. You can network, find photographers in your area (some of which will help you build a portfolio for free) and depending on your area you may even find jobs there. Best of all, for models, it's free to join. As with anything on internet, DO YOUR RESEARCH! Check references before working with anyone and always bring someone with you to any shoot.
