Monitor Adapters Dvi To Vga/svga

Is this DVI to VGA adapter good or bad?

I bought a new overclocked PNY geforce 9600GSO with 768MB Dual DVI, I went to a lacal pc store and the guy gave me a used DVI to VGA adapter, I whent home, placed it on the graphic card and connected the monitor. At first the screen looked good, but once windows started and I got logged in, the desktop icons and text look abit blurry but not alot. Could this be the new graphic card, used adapter, or just my old monitor(but looks good on regular VGA)?

P.S. Ill try connecting the adapter on the onboard graphics using the DVI instead of the VGA to see if it looks the same.....

Are all computer monitors universal?

Well in the old days you needed to be concerned on if it's composite or digital. Now you need to watch for VGA/SVGA or DVI, some monitors have both, most have only one. Unless you're computer's video card has both outputs you need to make sure you get the right type, or an adaptor.

Who invented the VGA monitor?

IBM LABS
VGA was the last graphical standard introduced by IBM that the majority of PC clone manufacturers conformed to, making it today (as of 2010[update]) the lowest common denominator that almost all post-1990 PC graphics hardware can be expected to implement. For example, the Microsoft Windows splash screen, in versions prior to Windows Vista, appears while the machine is still operating in VGA mode, which is the reason that this screen always appears in reduced resolution and color depth. Windows Vista and newer versions can make use of the VESA BIOS Extension support of newer graphics hardware to show their splash screen in a higher resolution than VGA allows.

VGA was officially followed by IBM's Extended Graphics Array (XGA) standard, but it was effectively superseded by numerous slightly different extensions to VGA made by clone manufacturers that came to be known collectively as Super VGA.

How do I connect a VGA monitor to an DVI-D port?

You'll need a "DVI-D to VGA active adapter":  Amazon.com: VGA DVI-D active adapter . Make sure it says "active" or it won't work at all. Nearly all these adapters have a bandwidth of 165 megahertz (MHz), allowing them to drive 1920 x 1200 at a refresh rate as fast as 70 Hz. That's more than fast enough for a flat-panel LCD display. But it's not quite fast enough to ensure a flicker-free experience if you're trying to drive an old CRT. If you're trying to drive a CRT through one of these, don't.Make sure the adapter you select is not a "VGA to DVI-D active adapter"; that's meant to connect a DVI-D display to a computer's VGA port.

Can I use HDMI to connect monitor to PC instead of VGA?

Hello..

I was just wondering if it would be a better option to use HDMI instead of VGA, I currently have Radeon HD 6670, its a kinda decent card but it has a HDMI,VGA and DVI port, I have been using VGA cables for monitor to computer connection for a long time, how much more of a difference will HDMI provide? And is it better?

I know I have to change a couple settings in the GPU menu's for full functionality probably, my monitor's resolution is 1920x1080 LCD with LED backlighting. Any information would be useful and/or experience with doing this themselves..

Thanks!

How great is the difference of using HDMI or VGA for a monitor (1080p)?

If you have the choice, use the HDMI, it is a digital signal on a digital monitor and the picture should look a bit sharper than VGA. Having said that, for a 1080p monitor the difference is not that much. An HDMI or DVI connection will likely look a bit sharper, but unless you are playing games, you probably won’t notice a huge difference.VGA supports some fairly high resolutions, but it is an analog signal. It means that the video signal has to be converted from digital to analog, at the computer, and then back to digital when it reaches the monitor. Which can create some input lag (Image tearing) and possible some signal loss but if you are just watching videos it should be fine. Here are a couple links that have some better info about HDMI and VGA, each has some good and bad points.HDMI vs VGA - Difference and ComparisonHDMI vs DisplayPort vs DVI vs VGA - Quick, Simple and Easy Explanation – GamingScanFrom my searches on the internet, DVI or Display port would be better, but if your choice is between HDMI or VGA, HDMI should be sharper, but VGA should perform fine as well.

Can I use an SVGA cable to connect my VGA PC port and VGA monitor?

yes you can. A VGA cable is a generic term use when the graphics on a computer were only VGA. When SVGA which stands for Super VGA was invented the same cable was still use for SVGA because it still can accomadate the higher graphics.

They both use what is call a Sub D 15 pin connector in geek term for VGA monitor cable. If you look at the cable ends the other shape does resemble the letter D.

If you go to school just ask someone nerds they will have plenty for free if you just ask. Best Buy, Compusa, Staples, Office Depot, etc should have them. Electronics or hardware stores or even $.99 cents stores may have them. Just ask for it on craigslist under the wanted heading. Also can get one for a couple of bucks on Ebay.

I don't have an HDMI port on my monitor. Can I use the Intel Compute Stick using VGA to HDMI convertor?

You can send an HDMI signal to a VGA monitor, but beware: there is a VGA to HDMI adapter and an HDMI to VGA adapter. They are not the same.Be sure to get an HDMI-IN to VGA-OUT adapter. Most of them need an external power source. For example, this productAmazon.com: HDMI to VGA, 1080P with Audio Port, Rankie Gold-Plated Active HDMI HDTV to VGA Adapter Converter Male to Female with Micro USB & 3.5mm Audio Port Cable - R1150: Computers & AccessoriesWill work, but you also need a female to female HDMI adapter, or an “extender coupler.”Amazon.com: HDMI Female to HDMI Female Cable Adapter Extender Coupler: Computers & AccessoriesYou can also get an HDMI to VGA adapter that you can plug the stick directly into, like Amazon.com: UGREEN Active HDMI to VGA Adapter with 3.5mm Audio Jack HDMI Female to VGA Male Converter for TV Stick, Raspberry Pi, Laptop, PC, Tablet, Digital Camera, etc: Computers & AccessoriesBut using the more common “plug” style with an adapter is cheaper. But, beware! The HDMI also carries audio! You need to make sure your adapter also has an audio output from the HDMI if your application needs audio. Most of the “stick PCs” don’t have a separate analog auto output, you will need to extract that from the HDMI stream. If the monitor has a DVI input, that is much simpler and cheaper passive adapter:Amazon.com: Cablelera HDMI Female to DVI Male Adapter (ZA5600FM): Computers & AccessoriesBut you still have the audio extraction problem. If you need audio, you will need to add an HDMI audio extractor: Amazon.com: KOBWA HDMI to HDMI + SPDIF + RCA L / R Audio Converter Audio Extractor Splitter: Home Audio & TheaterFrankly, I’d put the money toward the purchase of a used, more modern monitor.
