Mosfet And Flyback Diode For Servo Voltage Regulation

MOSFET and Flyback diode for servo voltage regulation?

Use a 1N5404 or 1N5408 diode, $0.48 at Mouser

The PWM frequency = 1/L (for 50% duty factor)
L is in Henries
Get inductance from servo data sheet or measure it.

Check MOSFET current specification and gate drive requirement at 6A. You may need more than 5V.

Update: You showed the servo part number. The servo frequency is fixed at 50Hz and the duty factor is not 50%. it varies from 5% to 10%. You do not need the MOSFET to drive the servo. There are three leads to the servo, plus and minus voltage and the PWM input. Just apply the supply voltage and the control signal. If you want to control the servo with potentiometer, I can show you how with a 555 timer.

You need to spend some time looking into servo controls before you build this. A servo is not like regular motor.

Can we use FET as a voltage regulator instead of Zener diode?

Yes, there are ways to make voltage regulator circuits using FET but FET alone cannot be used as a voltage regulator. It is used as a switch in these circuits. If you have a choice between Zener diode and FET voltage regulator then use Zener diode because it's easy to use it instead designing FET voltage regulator  separately. Here are few examples of FET voltage regulator. You can easily observe that in each circuit FET is used as a switch.

Is a voltage regulator also known as a transistor or IC?

Voltage regulator can't known as transistor or IC.But voltage regulator made by transistors or ICs. IC is integrated circuits consist of transistors, resistances, diodes etcs on one chip in micro or nano form.Transistor is very basic unit of any electronic cct. Each and every electronics equipments made with the help of transistors.

What is the syllabus for UGC- NET for electrical engineering?

The UGC NET Exam is conducted for the post graduate candidates. you must have the master’s degree to be eligible for the NET Exam. The UGC NET Exam is conducted for the award of the junior research fellowship and assistant professor in the national universities. The Eligibility for the NET Exam is as follows:Educational qualifications: The candidates must have the masters degree with 55% marks from the recognized university. The final year in post graduation candidates are also eligible to apply for the exam.the syllabus for the different subject is different. Please check the official website to know the complete NET syllabus and exam pattern for the electrical engineering subject.

Is a transistor and a voltage regulator the same? If not, what’s the difference?

A transistor and a voltage regulator are two different devices.A voltage regulator is typically a three lead device connect to vcc, ground, and output. It functions by sinking current into ground to keep the output voltage at a set level. While similar in package, a bipolar junction transistor is a simple device requiring external circuitry to determine its function. It could be used in a voltage regulator circuit, but it is not a voltage regulator.
