Move On Your Own Or Hire Movers Which Is Cheaper

Moving: Should I hire 2 movers for $95/hr, 3 for $120/hr, or pay $775 flat?

It sounds like it'd take 8-10 man hours to do this move, so you'll either need: 2 movers 4-5 hours ($380-$475) OR3 movers for about 2.66-3.33 hours ($360-$420 if they round up to the next half hour). The 3 man crew would be cheaper and the flat rate option would be ridiculous. On the other hand... you could always just rent a truck from Budget or Penske truck rental for about $30 for the day and hire some moving labor (loading & unloading help) through HireAHelper.com (yes I'm totally biased, but it's because we rock). Two helpers for 4-5 hours in the bay area without a truck run about $310-$365 and $55 per extra hour on HireAHelper. Total cost for the "rent a truck, hire moving labor" option would range $330-$395.So your best bet (and my favorite choice of course) would be to rent a truck and hire help with us. Tweet at me if you need help getting quotes or making a reservation - @hireahelper. You can also save 15% on a Budget truck rental if you use our promo code 56000144833.Last thought: be careful when reading reviews online. It's pretty easy for anyone (company owners, competitors, relatives) to post review on most directory sites. There's no way to know if it's actual customers of the mover. The reviews on HireAHelper are only from past customers who have paid and completed an order.Peace, love and a happy move!

Uhaul vs hiring Movers?

Uhual will always be cheaper. However NJ to FL is a long drive. Do you think you can handle it? If you have so many stuff you will need at least a mid size truck. Do you think you can handle a huge vehicle for such long drive?

You should get a quote from both uhual and a few moving company. Compare the different and see if it worth it to drive down to florida

Movers didn't show up?

I hired a moving company to load and unload a UHaul truck I rented. There's an online service UHaul provides that will allow you to hire moving help so you don't have to load/unload your rental truck. Since the movers are their own companies they are not employees of UHaul or have anything to do with UHaul other then be listed on UHaul's website as moving help.

They were scheduled to come at 1pm and the moving company called to confirm the morning of the move. At 12:40pm the moving company called and said the movers are running 2 hours behind and won't be at my house until 3pm. Then at 2:30pm the moving company called me again and said the movers couldn't make it because one guy quit and the other team's car broke down.

At 3pm there were no other mover's available to help so I had to reschedule with a different company 2 days later. (The earliest I could find someone available) I got a refund for the money I prepaid for the moving help from UHaul, but I'm still out the extra money for the truck rental, extra gas to drive the truck back and pick it up again, I had a lease on my house that ended the day of the move and then I had to extend my lease by 2 days so the landlord is charging me for 2 days of rent, plus my time off work for 2 days instead of 1 day. The total is more then $500 that I'm out due to the moving company not showing up.

I've called them and they refuse to refund me anything. What are my chances of winning in small claims court? Or any other ideas?

If mover is injured on property is a renter liable?

My husband and I are renting the second floor of a single family house from his uncle who owns the property. We are moving within the next month and plan to hire movers. We have a living room set that needs to be moved, but when it was delivered, the delivery men said they could only bring it up using the back steps (there are a lot of tight corners if you go up the front way. Two years later, the very steep back steps are starting to look rotted and I am concerned that there may be an issue with movers going down them with heavy furniture. Our landlord is aware of the condition of the steps and refuses to do anything about it. My question is if god forbid, a step broke and our mover was injured, would we be liable as the ones that hired the movers or would the owner/landlord be responsible? This is in Connecticut BTW. Thanks!
