Leaving movers alone.?

Hi! My husband and I are planning a move in a few weeks. We have a studio apartment and they re only going 16 miles so it s expected to take 2 hours or less. We were thinking about going out to eat while the movers do their thing and then meeting them at the new place. The company is licensed, bonded and insured and they have hundreds of positive Yelp reviews. Is this okay to do? I ve never hired movers before so I don t know if it s standard protocol to leave them alone.

We won t be having them move any valuables as A. I am a college student and don t actually have any anyway and B. my laptop will be going in my car. So I m not really worried about them stealing anything anyway. Just wondering if it s ok to leave them to do their thing. Seems dumb to stay there and watch because if I was gonna stay there, I could just do it myself. The point is to relieve some stress during the week before finals.

Thanks!!

My parents won’t let me move out. I’m 18. What should I do?

Pack. And think while you’re filling those boxes. Where are you going? Who are you going to live with? How are you going to support yourself? What’s the big hurry? Why?Frankly, I’m shocked they want you to stay home. Most teenagers are wired to make parents wish their kid was moving out. It’s part of the “natural separation cycle” as I refer to it. My eldest and I weren’t seeing eye-to-eye on responsibility and academics his senior year. I was so ready for him to see how hard life can really be when don’t you have mom taking care of your needs. Three years down the road and he’s asking for a vacuum and new sheets for Christmas. He’s grown up some. Now my second son has me looking forward to July when he’s 18 and thinks he can move out and support himself now that he’s graduated and doesn’t have to answer to anyone. It’s gonna be a shocker for that one. He has no idea how good he has it and the only way he will learn is the hard way.I know I was the same way. Best thing I did was move away for college. Just don’t expect to have the same lifestyle or for your parents to pick up the tab. If they’re paying for school you do have an obligation to them. I was happy to provide my own way for the freedom it gave me.

My mom thinks she's always right and contradicts her own word?

I know someone just like that, constantly belittles me and tells me to do something then gets mad at me for doing what she just told me to do then claims she never told me to do it in the first place. It's like she's on an emotional rollercoaster. Someone told me it's because she has bipolar, or something similar to it, and she's on medication for it now and is a lot better, so maybe it is that she is just bi-polar, or just really stressed out.

As for the person that said you sounded rude or whatever, just ignore them, I understand exactly what your talking about, one second your being called a ***** for doing something they told you to do, and the next being screamed at for not doing the very thing she just told you not to do anymore. It's annoying and confusing and no matter how you try to handle the situation you always lose. Now that she is on medication I don't have this problem that much anymore, and when this problem does arise it is usually now directed at someone other than me, but when it did arise before I'd just try to ignore it, although it is awful hard to do so. I remember being just 6 or 7 years old and she would threaten to get rid of me just because I was tired, it was like 11 o' clock at night, and didn't want to scratch her hair or rub her back. Plus she is my legal guardian, so she could sign custody back to my parents if she wanted to, so when I was younger I really thought she was gonna get rid of me and would break down in to tears all the time, after all I was just a little kid, so I understand where your coming from. From now on just point out to her when she contradicts herself, I doubt it will do any good though. You could try just to ignore her, the best option would to be just to avoid her. Don't offer to stay home from school anymore to help her, it's harmful to your studies plus it just leads to you getting yelled at. When you get home from school say you have to do your homework and go up to your room, and afterwards go out with your friends, and if she won't let you then just stay in your room, or just in another room away from her, that way you don't have to deal with it.

Sorry you have to go through this, but your not the only one, hopefully it all works out.
