Movie Editing Best Way To Save Files For Further Use

Windows Movie Maker won't save my file as a movie?

Hi, yes it could be actually a codec conflict, especially if you have haali media splitter installed. Haali comes with all codec packs or you can download it by itself. If haali is enabled for avi support it will stop windows movie maker halfway through saving the movie and close automatically. If you see a white icon in your task bar by your clock when messing with windows movie maker then yes haali is the problem.

http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;... (I have some tips here wmm for an answer I did earlier.)

You may have a codec conflict in windows movie maker causing it to do this. I have had a codec conflict in windows movie maker also. Make sure you DO NOT have more than one codec pack installed on your system. Make sure you have not installed ffdshow or haali media splitter seperately if you ALREADY installed a codec pack because they come with every codec pack.

Your problem could actually be haali media splitter if you have it. Haali should NEVER be configured to support avi videos during installation of haali, otherwise it will lockup and automatically shutdown windows movie maker halfway through saving the video. If you see a white icon in your task tray next to your clock when messing with avi videos in windows movie maker then that IS the reason,

Open windows movie maker - at the top click on tools then options - in options click on the last tab over compatibility - In compatibility I recommend you disable haali media splitter if you have it. There may also be some other codecs in the list that may be causing your problem. You clear the check box to disable the filters. click ok to close it out

If none of this works add some additional details and I will do my best to help you further. Good luck!

Is there any way I can convert a .wav audio file to something I can put on youtube?

I suggest Leawo Free FLV Converter which is totally free and clean. You can use it convert FLV to videos and audios in many pop formats(such as AVI, MP4, MOV, 3GP, WMV, MPEG, MP3, WMA, DV, etc) for further use and portable devices. The easy-to-use interface would smooth your operation and make you enjoy FLV on iPod, iPhone, PSP, Zune, XBOX and etc.

How can I get Windoes Movie Maker files without video(.mmswmm or something like that) into audacity?

Hi, you could read this tutorial. I am sure it could give you some hint:

Can I convert a Windows Movie Maker file onto a Mac?

OK, if it really is a WMM file, it's not really your video. Movie Maker files are simply reference files that tell Movie Maker where the clips for your video are and how to organize them. It is not your actual video. To have your video run on a Mac, go into Movie Maker and EXPORT (a.k.a. Render) your WMM file into a file that can be read by Macs. MPEG-2 is a format that will play on a Mac, for example, with Quicktime.

Now if you want to convert the WMM file into an iMovie file.. I don't think that can be done. But you can do what I said before (export it as an MPEG-2 file) and open up the video in iMovie in one chunk. If you want to edit the video further, make sure you export it in the absolute highest quality possible to avoid losing quality.

Hope that helps.

EDIT: Did you export it in Movie Maker? I mean, is it literally a WMM project file? Or did you mean to say it's a WMV or something?

If it's WMM you HAVE to open it back up on the crashed computer or re-make the video on your Mac from scratch. If it's something else, you'll have to convert it to work on it in iMovie, but you'll lose some quality. I'm just not 100% clear on what the situation is right now.

Does the quality of a video go down every time I use movie maker to make a video?

Every time you export content, you lose image quality -- even in uncompressed mode. It is nowhere near as noticeable as generational loss over tape, but it does happen. You also lose quality whenever you transcode, even if it is in the same 'wrapper,' such as .mp4.We also lose quality when we composite, as well as color grade, etc. What you need to do is to shoot, if you can, at a higher picture resolution and color space than the final product, for the best deliverable. So, if you wish to have the best quality video: make a copy of the source content, or a non-destructive NLE that can work with the original content. From there, make all your edits, changes, etc., and export that for the best quality. Do not use that version if you want to make further changes. Instead, make a copy of your original edits, then make your new changes, and export a fresh copy.Cheers!
