How far can you take Managed & UnManaged Code?

Short answer.Yes, it’s possible. You don’t actually produce them, you invoke them at the runtime via DLL.Long answer. It requires a bit of tinkering, and reading a bit of documentation, and blogs on the web, but it’s definitely not a rocket science once you know what you’re doing. Here is the tutorial -> Calling C# .NET methods from unmanaged C/C++ codeAnd another one here ->Invoke C# code from native C++Finally MSDN -> https://support.microsoft.com/en...

What do I need to know how to do to manage my own VPS if I can't afford a managed package?

I’ve provided a few tips on this in some previous answers here, here and here. Google is going to be your friend. The first thing I’d suggest is taking regular backups and keeping several versions of them so that if something goes wrong, your files and your databases will be backed up even if your server isn’t.When you first gain access to your VPS, you’ll want to make sure that you have antivirus software and a firewall installed and that you’ve disabled any settings and functionality that you won’t need access to. This will help to cut down on potential exploits. Then, as time goes on, be sure to regularly check for software updates so that if a new patch is released, you install it as quickly as possible.Other than that, a lot of it is trial and error. Keep learning and keep Googling and you’ll be a decent sysadmin in no time.Good luck!Foti

How can I setup an unmanaged VPS?

Definitely not going to be an easy task since it is an unmanaged VPS.First step will be to get a VPS. Go to digital ocean or linode and get a basic VPS - Preferably CentOS 6.xOnce you have done that follow this article , you might want to skip the varnish part , as it may make things more complicated. There can be some posy install issues, which you will need to fix of your own :) Good luck!If you are not comfortable in doing so , I would like to welcome you to my shared hosting platform , FlexiCloud . There you can have hosting account for just 40 INR per month ( It means that for the amount you are spending for 5 months of hosting in Digital Ocean or Linode , you can host a website for 3 years! Ofcource with some limitations. ) , and you will get a fully functional cPanel , 24x7 support and a lot more.I m happy to give you a month of free hosting to try!

When do you know you've been programming too long, and need to move over to management?

I never felt the need to become a manager. Managers deal with people and I prefer to deal with code instead. Oh, well… That’s just the autism inside me speaking up… ;-)Anyways, when you feel that coding doesn’t allow you to learn more, you might reconsider your options. Management then becomes an alternative option but it requires that you’re willing to rely on the skills of others to do your work. You should basically distance yourself from the programming tasks. And that’s a challenge for many programmers. So some programmers will never be managers. Others will just be bad at management as you’d need good people skills and some programmers aren’t that good with people.Yet some programmers might soon get bored with just programming as they want to move on to bigger projects. And for bigger projects, you’d generally need more programmers and at least one to lead them. And that ‘leader’ would be the programmer who wanted to do something bigger.

What should I do if I want to host an unmanaged dedicated server but have no knowledge on how to set up and manage a server?

I disagree that managing a server is hard and requires a lot of knowledge in 2019. In case you are using Plesk for example (the GUI stated earlier), you can do everything 100% over the GUI what is much easier. Plus that Plesk is managing your whole stack underneath, has a repair kit that automatically repairs your server if needed and is mostly auto-managed. I can only recommend to give it a try for example on DigitalOcean where it is a one-click app and is integrated with DigitalOcean’s DNS: DigitalOcean Marketplace
