I never felt the need to become a manager. Managers deal with people and I prefer to deal with code instead. Oh, well… That’s just the autism inside me speaking up… ;-)Anyways, when you feel that coding doesn’t allow you to learn more, you might reconsider your options. Management then becomes an alternative option but it requires that you’re willing to rely on the skills of others to do your work. You should basically distance yourself from the programming tasks. And that’s a challenge for many programmers.So some programmers will never be managers. Others will just be bad at management as you’d need good people skills and some programmers aren’t that good with people.Yet some programmers might soon get bored with just programming as they want to move on to bigger projects. And for bigger projects, you’d generally need more programmers and at least one to lead them. And that ‘leader’ would be the programmer who wanted to do something bigger.

I disagree that managing a server is hard and requires a lot of knowledge in 2019. In case you are using Plesk for example (the GUI stated earlier), you can do everything 100% over the GUI what is much easier. Plus that Plesk is managing your whole stack underneath, has a repair kit that automatically repairs your server if needed and is mostly auto-managed. I can only recommend to give it a try for example on DigitalOcean where it is a one-click app and is integrated with DigitalOcean’s DNS: DigitalOcean Marketplace
