Moving To Another City

My boyfriend's moving to another city?

Are you both in high school? If so, how long will it be for both of you to graduate?

Here's why I ask...

I was dating someone when I was in high school, and I had to move the summer prior to my senior year. My girlfriend and I kept the relationship because neither of us could stand the thought of breaking up. We wrote letters, and hardly more than a week went by without one getting a letter from the other. Internet wasn't an option in the late 80's, and neither were cell phones or unlimited long distance. That worked for a little while; I think we both needed it after the move. By the end of the Fall, it fell apart; but, we still continued to write to each other.

In spite of the heartache and even an attempt to try again, we stayed in contact through my graduating high school and starting college. She was a year behind me, and we hooked up again when she started college (different colleges, but within 40 minutes driving distance).

EDIT: Unimportant but nice little tidbit: Prior to my moving, she gave me a necklace. It was a broken medallion with a heart and with her name on the back. She had the other half which was basically the mirror of mine and with my name on the back. When we finally started dating again in college, we were able to put the two halves back together :-)

Long distance relationships are difficult as you already know. Each relationship is different, but it might be good for both of you to go ahead and give it a shot. If you do, then hopefully you will both be honest and let the other know if the distance is too much. You both deserve the truth from each other even if it hurts. You both will also need a sense of humor, patience, and some understanding with respect to the distance. For example, if one person doesn't communicate for a while, it doesn't automatically mean that the person has found someone else or is no longer interested. It's easy to allow self doubt and insecurity about the unknown to manifest as a kind of paranoia. So remember, if it isn't working for either of you, that person needs to be upfront and honest with the other.

If you need each other then by all means go for it, but be ready for things.

Good luck to both of you.

Your team is moving to another city, which city would you choose?

I would want the Mets to move to San Juan, Puerto Rico. They will be called the Puerto Rico Mosquitoes. I actually made that team in a video game a couple of years ago.

BQ: Oh ya, I already did before I answered. Good question.

I am moving to another city. PO box question.?

You should wait until you get close to moving, say a few weeks. You can go to the post office in the city you are moving to and get a new post office box. Then go to the post office in your current city and have them forward your mail to the new post office box. You just need to fill out a form to forward your mail to the new P.O. box. You would then need to contact the senders (the people sending you the mail) and give them your new P.O. box number.

Moving to another city... changing vets... What should I do?

I have a 12 weeks old Siberian Husky puppy. I got her when she was 8 weeks old and I took her to the vet. The vet gave her the bordetella vaccine and she got the annual check up and they did some fecal tests, oh and she got the pill for the heartworms (Interceptor). She already had the Parvovirus vaccine from before I got her. My question is that we are moving to another city so I have to take her to another vet, but I'm not sure if I should take her now, or when should she go. I dot know if she needs more vaccines or I have to wait. She already had the annual wellness check up, so I don’t know if I should take her now or when she gets a little bit older. I don’t know if she needs any other vaccine now, or not. What should I do?

Move to another city without a job?

I'm trying to move from South Florida to either Austin, Texas or Chicago, Illinois. It seems to be very difficult to get a job there from out here, so I feel I should move there first before getting a position. How would I go about calculating for expenses to move there for awhile before I can get a job? Any advice and/or resources would be much appreciated.

My best friend is moving to another city. Will our friendship end?

come on. My best friend is moving to another country. What do you think about us?

Is it easier to find a job in another city if I move there first?

It depends on what you do. This framework might be helpful:a) Supply and demand for your profession: If you are a computer programmer, we need you in SF. Ditto if you are a data scientist, biomedical researcher, geneticist, biochemist, chip designer, analog engineer, etc, though to lesser extents. If you are a Doctor, you might be well off in rural Texas. If you are an admin assistant, SF is a nice place to live, but it is very expensive. Research supply and demand.b) How hiring takes place in your field: If you are a knowledge worker or aiming for a job that pays over 75k, then chances are networking is extremely important, no one wants to hire someone that does not fit, and fit is best decided by the company you keep and how strongly they refer you. Networking at meetups and other events in the Bay Area is invaluable. So first, check on http://meetup.com and http://Eventbrite.com for how much there is in terms of networking in your field. A COBOL programmer will not have good luck here.c) Realistically, your own caliber: Do you have a great resume? Do you suspect your are employable? Have others you know tread this path before you? Do you have a high GPA? Have you worked for recognizable names?d) Your personal finances and personal support network: Do you have places you can couch-crash for 2.5 to 3.5 months? Do you have enough money for food, travel, and rent for this period? Where will you stay if you need to move back home? The bottomline is: Moving somewhere will not necessarily improve every career. If you are a waiter at Friendlys in CT, you are not likely to become Chef at the French Laundry. If you move too often, you develop no deep roots. If your goal is to be a dabbler, by all means move often, and if your goal is to climb a career ladder, move less frequently. If you have studied supply and demand, know that networking helps, have enough money in the bank, go for it. Many of my friends couch surfed for three months after getting their Masters in Computer Science and all got jobs in that time, not one went back home. Some lined up a bunch of recruiters and phone interviews while living in Detroit, then came here for one week of full bore interviews and got hired. I managed to get hired into a job with just a phone interview because demand was extremely high for what I did.
