Moving To England Where Do I Look

Moving to America from England at the age of 16-18?

Hello, I am only 14 and I know it mind sound a little far fetched but since I have known what America is, I have always wanted to move there ( I'm from England), So when I have finished high school, and hopefully got my GCSE's I was wondering how I would go about getting there, Would i need to be sponsored by a College or anything, Would I need a lot of money? Would it even be possible for me to move there alone or would I need an adult with me? please can anyone help me, with as much information as possible please. Thankyou so much.

Should I move to England?

As others have observed, it’s probably not England itself that’s made the difference - but the change in atmosphere. Or at least the distraction that provides.Have you tried visiting anywhere else? Do you get the same reaction? If we’re correct in our assumption, you may find any change in atmosphere healthy, which opens up a lot more options.I’m not saying don’t move to England, but I would caution two things:One, is to talk to someone - a professional - and work together to find the root of your depression. If it’s something in your life, a bad situation, someone that’s dragging you down, etc - then a move might be very healthy. But if it’s not - if it’s something internal to you; you can’t run away from it, and will only find yourself with the same problem. Except now you’ll be somewhere alien, without your family, friends, or familiar support structures. That might not help at all.The second, is that moving is not a vacation - and it’s not always easy. Things that seem novel when you’re visiting, seem alien when you live there. When we call it “culture shock”, we make it sound very short and sudden. But, 10 years later, it still gets me. Sometimes it’ll just be the realisation that some things are still alien to me (“I thought they only did that on TV”). Sometimes it’s the realisation that they’ll never accept me as one of their own - I might call this home, but they won’t consider it my home.Take care of yourself, and do what you need to do - but look before you leap.

Thinking About Moving To England?

By England, are you picky about England or Wales and Scotland?

Also, if you're enchanted by the English accent then you should be aware that there are VERY different accents across the UK. I recomend spending a spot of time with youtube and listen to the Birmingham accent, and the Liverpool accent, then the newcastle accent. Also have a listen to the Devon accent if you can find it. Most people who like the English accent have heard the kind of accent that the likes of Hugh Grant have which we often call the "queen's english" and, by it's very nature is found near London (although not necessarily found in the centre of it).

Now, London is a very expensive place to live. there are major cities surounding it such as Cambridge and Oxford although the prices there are still high. The problem is, the closer to London you go, the higher living prices are. As a rule of thumb, the further north you go, the cheaper house prices are.

As for somewhere safe, you'l have to trade this off against urbanisation I'm afraid. I live out in a small town. The availability of 'cool' places is rather limited, but it's a much safer place than say the centre of Newcastle.

And what's 'cool' for you?

I grew up near Manchester which was, as cities go, isn't too bad. I spent quite a bit of time near York which is quieter and more historical.

I'm afraid I couldn't help you out with the cost of living because it really depends on how much you have to spend. You very much get what you pay for.

Should I move to England?

Ok i'm fed up with America. I can't actually believe i'm saying this, but I want out of this terrible country. I was born and raised in Chicago. I am now 22 years old. I'm tired of this government, and all the idiots in politics. Just set my age aside, the money it will cost etc.. What is England like? Do you have stupid politics? Laws? I hear a lot of violence is happening there now.. What makes England better than America? Thank you.

I want to move to England!!!?

Whatever hit you on your head ,must have been large and caused an awful lot of damage to your health !
Who in their right mind would want to live here in the U..K at this present time ? There's NO work ,NO prospect of there being any work in the foreseeable future ,Housing is just ridiculously expensive ,it's so overcrowded here it beggars belief ,the cost of travel is crazy and food is going "sky high "in price .
I have Three Sons and love them dearly and don't want to lose them to living a life of abject hell their going to experience whilst living in this country ,I am pleading with them to look to another country to live in rather them struggle for a living here in the U.K. .
THINK AGAIN

I'm moving to the UK to study. What are some things to look out for?

First off, if you're renting your own private place, don't get ripped off.  The UK is an expensive place even for students, but I've seen many international students who just don't know any better get sucked into stupidly expensive flats when there are cheaper alternatives.  Be aware that university culture is preeeetty different in the UK to many parts of the world and expect to be encouraged to join in with very rowdy drinking and clubbing if you're staying in halls with Brits. Also, explore more places than just London while you're here.  Scotland is beautiful.  York and Leeds are wonderful cities.  Wales is a fantastic place to visit.  Cornwall is amazing.  There is more to the UK than London.EDIT: Oh, and don't judge our food before you've tried it from somewhere actually good!  I love good food and contrary to what people from abroad think, the UK has a lot of good food.  Rather than thinking you just have to try fish and chips from a pub and that's the extent of British food, check out Trip Advisor and find some good gastropubs and restaurants that do British food.  If you visit London, check out one of the awesome food markets.  I promise you that our food isn't as gross as other countries all think.

What are the best things to look forward to when moving to the UK?

One thing that all my Australian friends who have lived for a while in the UK loved was the chance to spend their weekends visiting ancient Roman ruins, medieval castles, and nearby European countries. The UK is very close to many other, diverse countries, and has a long, rich history in its own right. The dense population of the UK (and its proximity to major cities in other countries through cheap flights) also means that you have the opportunity to attend major rock concerts, musicals, operas, art galleries, sporting events or whatever interests you much more frequently and more cheaply than would likely be possible in Australia. If you like hiking, the UK may have fewer wild places than Australia, but British forest links so well to the cultural memories and folklore of your ancestors, if you have Eureopean heritage. Mighty oaks, timid fauns, fabulous autumn colours… As someone who grew up reading fantasy novels that were largely set in pseudo-medieval pseduo-Europe, I find British forests fabulous for all the stories and memories they evoke.Oh, and regarding the weather… the UK may be much colder and wetter than Australia, but their houses are built for it, their clothes are designed for it, their heaters actually work. You’ll probably be cold less often in the UK than you would be in Melbourne or Hobart or even Sydney. And the UK is so far north that you can look forward to very long summer evenings.
