Why do so many people hate Nickelback, but love Daughtry?
Nickelback started out pretty strong with a pretty solid rock sound, but digressed into soccer mom music. Daughtry started out with a ready made American Idol fan base and hasn't evolved into something different from what the fan base originally liked.
Why do bands like Nickelback, The Fray, Daughtry, Hinder etc outsell the likes of Vampire Weekend?
I don't have a direct answer to your initial question but please let me tell you my personal opinion of the mentioned bands. Nickelback - I like them, though their latest stuff isn't as satisfying. The Fray - Soft rock always sells, and this band is soft rock, a rather good one. Daughtry - American Idol helped them enormously, plus they are leaning towards pop. Hinder - Never heard of them. Vampire Weekend - I think they are too like Weezer. Don't get me wrong, I like them, but they are certainly not at the top of my list. Then again I prefer older stuff.

they might as well be. Theory of a Deadman, Nickleback, Hinder, Saving Abel, Chris Daughtry, Gavin Rossdale (undoftunately), David Cook... they all sound pretty much the same. Raspy, radio-friendly vocals with poppy guitar riffs and maybe a little piano in the backround. its all crap.

How would you compare these two alternative rock bands: Nirvana vs. Daughtry?
Lmao I’m sorry dude seriously? Dude are you freaking serious? C’mon dude, C’mon. Please let legends be legend and let Kurt rest in peace, mate. There’s no way you could compare them. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying Daughtry is bad or anything like that but you know what Nirvana was one of the first bands who founded alternative genres from the Grunge music. They deserve a little bit more respect than what you are imagining. Daughtry is good in his own ways but to be compared to Nirvana? They’re no where near them. In fact, they are not even near to some of great alternatives bands like Weezer.Just because some of their songs are good doesn’t/shouldn’t mean they are at the standard of some great bands, ain’t it mate?
