Any obscure music recommendations?

Good lawd, that's a lot of bands.......

Zen Guerilla kind of takes a page from the MC5 book, playing some raw gritty blues-influenced rock 'n' roll.

Who are musicians you like? Also, what do you think of these musicians?

How diverse is your taste in music?

I sometimes laugh at my choices in music ... In one car trip I can easily go from jazz trumpeter Maynard Ferguson to the Beatles/Paul McCartney to Led Zeppelin or the The Who or even New Order/Joy Division. And I like classical music as well.

So how diverse are your tastes? Or are you a pretty much one-band person?

What can cause someone to have a diverse music taste from past to present?

In my experience, musicians tend to fall into this category, for the simple reason that playing the same stuff over and over again gets incredibly boring and leads to plateaus in learning and musical development. It's often said that the best way to get out of a rut when learning an instrument is to branch out into something completely new. Most musicians I know have been through at least a dozen such ruts, and that's why they can play classic rock, pop, modern alternative and indie, country, a bit of classical, blues, metal, fingerstyle folk, and at least some jazz (jazz is complex enough to require a LOT of study and practice before one can really claim to be a jazz musician).I've seen video of Jonsi, frontman and guitarist for the Icelandic band Sigur Ros (best known for playing a heavily distorted Les Paul style guitar with a cello bow), fingerpicking bluegrass tunes on a banjo. I'm willing to bet that was the result of a severe musical rut.I myself have even found that rap music, generally not a guitar centric genre, can teach me TONS about rhythm, which is why I incorporate it into my practice and playing by trying to emulate the lyrical cadence with my guitar. But at the end of the day, virtually ALL music has merit, which is the true reason people develop a wide range of tastes, musician or not.

Why do we have different tastes in music?

At least some of our music preference is cultural.Certain combinations of sounds may be more common in particular geographic regions. Lifelong familiarity with these patterns would be a reason to prefer themIn a tiny study the babies of musical mothers , several infants were placed backstage during the performance of the mothers. In each case the baby most soothed was the one currently listening to music played by its own mother. The music played by other musicians were not as effective.Consider that each infant had already spent several months during gestation listening to the music of its own mom (as well as its mom's voice and heart beat. ) .All of these auditory inputs were familiar and calming to the baby.Nim Tottenham studied musical preferences of kids who were born in 1990. She went through the "Hit Parade" and selected songs which were on the “ top of the charts” during the time these kids were 7 yrs old (For her group, the number one tune in the USA was by the Backstreet Boys). In 2012, when these kids were 22, she looked musical preferences (and emotional comfort- defined by biorhythms) while listening to various songs from different eras- including those which were on the charts when these subjects were childrenThat music experienced by these subjects when they were children had the greatest capacity to reduce anxiety at the point in life when they were 22 yrs old. Tottenham's explanation is that, in early childhood, before the higher brain networks are developed, learning is much more driven by emotions. So musical experiences acquired at that time would be more emotional than cognitive.(Note: this was not true among age matched peers who were raised in other countries and did not grow up listening to the Backstreet Boys. Those newcomers preferred songs which were popular when they first arrived in the USA .Another feature which shapes our musical preferences is influence of peers . Every generation seems to have its own music that the older generation "doesn't understand". Young people introduce each other to different musical styles and bond around their own brand of music-Of course, this answer doesn't explain why some people like Rap music while others in the same social circles might hate it.

If music taste is subjective and everyone has different tastes then what is good music?

Okay, a lot of people say everyone has their own taste in music therefore music taste is subjective and whats music to one isnt to another, so then why do people make fun of so many artists like justin bieber, isnt it as simple as this, some people like him and some dont, but does that mean hes a legitimate music artist and should be compared to great bands like the beatles, led zeppelin, etc. My second question is, does that mean the Beatles are a good band or that is just a popular opinion, cuz cant people say they suck just as people say justin bieber sucks

So please tell me what makes a good music artist and explain my question 2 me in a detailed answer

Why do we all have different tastes in music?

Why do we all have different tastes in music?
Why do we all have different tastes in food?
Why do we all have different tastes in men/women?
Why do we all have different tastes in career?
Why do we all have different tastes in studies?
Why do we all have different tastes in novels?
Why do we all have different tastes in movies?
Why do we all have different tastes in friend builder sites?
Why do we all have different tastes in finding friends?
Why do we all have different tastes in dancing?
Why do we all have different tastes ???

If everyone likes the same thing there wont be anything new in the world at all.
we would still be cave-men if some cave-man of the olden times did not have a DIFFERENT taste.

i am an indian, and i listen to more of indian music rather than english. i prefer slow melodies when in need of consolation. music heals. it heals fast too. better than thinking about the problem. better than talking about it. when i listen to music, the solution some how gets formed in my mind automatically. music is magical.

i listen to fast numbers when, in a jolly moods. music makes ur mood even better. when u r happy - dance to death is my philosophy :)

music is the most beautiful thing in this world. its natural for people to have differnt tastes in music or in anything else.

and yes, in a way our surroundings also have an impact on our taste. i was never a listener of avril. but my friends made me her big fan.

what ever is the reason, i am glad we have different tastes. the differences is what makes life more exciting and beautiful. dont u agree??

What constitutes 'good taste' in literature, film and music?

When I think of good taste, I tend to think of a deep, broad and adventurous enthusiasm where you can make distinctions based on your personal experience between what's good and what isn't. Sometimes the best way to define it is to think of your own usage. What do you mean when you say to another person "Wow, you have good taste"? Almost always, in my case, it's because they've read or seen something that I personally think is great, or which is off the beaten path, suggesting (and it may be nothing more than that) a more comprehensive field of appreciation. Similarly, think of why you say "Sheesh, he/she has lousy taste in whatever." It's because they consistently feed on stuff that's just completely ordinary or sensational, that delivers the same old basic gratification they want. If you know someone whose idea of high entertainment is blockbusters and trash TV, and they say something to you like "Boy, I saw the worst movie in the world last night. It was called The Rules of the Game, and it was sooooooo BORING. I thought it just SUCKED!" -- well, then you know that person has crummy taste. On the other hand, if you heard someone say "I didn't like The Rules of the Game; I think it's completely overrated, and Children of the Paradise is far superior" -- well, that's a different kettle of fish. In that case you have an opinion with at least a little cultural background. Also, let me just add on this point: people that love movies, especially, can love a lot of different types of movies, from hard-to-grasp European art films to disposable trash. There are any number of great filmmakers and critics who have found a reason to like trashy movies. movies that they know aren't all that good but which have some kind of energetic mischief that makes them watchable. Same goes with a lot of music. Yes, I know Bon Jovi was a crappy band -- and yes, I still turn up "Livin' on a Prayer" every time it's on the radio.
