Musical Audtions Help

Audition Song Help - Gypsy the musical?

I'm doing an audition for a local theater group for the musical gypsy. I have two audition songs ready to go and I'm looking for opinions on which one would be better.

The two possible songs are:
1)Stars and the moon - Songs from a new world
2)Funny Honey-Chicago

I also have the song Once upon a December from the Disney cartoon Anastasia but I have a feeling that it wouldn't work.

Any help would be great!

Oh, and my vocal range is Soprano (but I have a large enough range that I can cover both soprano and alto notes.)

Audition help? Musical Theatre?

Okay I know this has been asked a bajillion times before, but I'm a 14 year old mezzo-soprano/alto whose still learning in terms of belting. I'm auditioning for two shows at my school, both Bridge to Terabithia and Leap of Faith. It has to be able to sound well cut into 16 bars, and I know to avoid overdone shows like Wicked, Hairspray, and Les Mis. I was thinking maybe part of Roxie from Chicago, or part of Live Out Loud from A Little Princess. Thanks in advance :D

High School Musical -Audition help!!?

I need help finding an audition song! I have a weird range (I sing Soprano 1 in chorus) but it's about 4 octaves. I have my pretty soprano range (I can get really loud in about E-off staff territory) and then I have my jazzy, belty alto voice. I have like a three note passagio at about *** (talking bottom of the staff here) where I have to switch voices.

Anyway! I have an audition coming up for High School Musical with the theatre group I do shows for. I'm not exactly sure what part I want. Can anyone tell me which part they think would be better for my voice and suggest some songs? PLEASE and thank you. (:

--unfortunately though, we can't sing a song from the show.
as far as my acting goes, I would LOVE Sharpay but I think they see me more as a Gabriella. I generally play the timid and shy one with a hidden talent xD

Musical auditions (Oklahoma!) help?!?

Well, it sounds like you're working on your voice- do you have an audition song, or does your school have you sing songs from the show?
I would make sure that when you audition, you really GO for it. Make strong decisions. If you're reading a scene with someone auditioning for Laurey or Annie, look up at them as much as you can (without losing your place!) My first lead, I am firmly convinced I was cast because of the great chemistry and "moment" I had with the leading man auditionee.
Especially for musical theater, make everything BIG. Not overdramatic or unrealistic, but if when you are reading/auditioning and it feels natural, like something you would do as "you", it's not big enough. It should feel a little awkward to you in order to look normal to the audience.
Also- have an attitude check. Is there ANY other reason you may not be cast in lead roles? Have you shown a bad attitude? Have you shown yourself to be unreliable? Are you late to rehearsals? Do you badmouth other castmates? Stuff gets around, so make sure you always have your best attitude in place. Be willing to help out, be trustworthy and responsible.
Lastly, look up scenes and songs from Oklahoma on YouTube. Look at other school versions done by people your age. Learn from them- what you liked and what you didn't about their performances. Learn from the community theater or college productions, if you find any.

SO SCARED to audition for the musical!?

practice practice practice!

practice for your friends, your family, even ask the theater/music theater if you can have some help after school or just run through a piece you have prepared or something. also, if it's a musical and you're going to be singing in the audition, it helps to record yourself and then listen back to it to see where you can improve. when it comes to the actual day, just take deep breaths, close your eyes and concentrate only on what you are about to perform, not on anything or anybody around you. i used to always just sit around waiting and talking to everybody just about how nervous i was- but this doesn't help a bit. find a corner or a quiet place somewhere that you can just get "in the zone" , focus, and calm. and when you go out there on stage, just smile and be very confident because those who are considering casting you can always tell when you're nervous or uncomfortable. oh! and dont forget to thank the casting director at the end for their time- they will remember and appreciate it. just do your best and i'm sure you'll do fine!

and good luck!

I have an audition for a musical and I'm really anxious about it, because it's the first time I'm auditioning. Any tips to help me relax?

I see this is an old question, but for the sake of other people who have the same issues:It's really normal to be really nervous. Rest assured that even seasoned performers get nervous too. Frankly since its' your first time auditioning for anything, I'd treat this one as a learning experience-a chance to get acquainted with the process. Don't walk in expecting to get cast-look at this as  your chance to gain experience in auditioning, and to introduce yourself to the auditioners. Odds are good you will audition for them again in the future, so it is good to let them know you are out there. Sometimes, it takes a few tries in order to get cast with a company-they need to see more of you over time before they'll cast you, especially if you don't really have any musical theater experience. The more you do it, though, the less nervous you'll be, but there are some things you can do:Know your music. Practice it until you can sing it in your sleep. Pick a song that you know you can do-please don't sing it if you have issues with it like pitch problems, messing up the lyrics, or other technical issues that your ability hasn't caught up with yet. Sing a song you know you can do well with no hiccups and will show off your abilities. When you are standing there in front of them, don't look directly at them. Look slightly above or below your sightline so that you aren't directly looking into their eyes. Imagine you are singing alone.Breathe before you start. Breathe deeply.Treat this like a performance-that is what an audition is. You are performing.

Musical theatre audition! Help! Scared?

A few things to remember:

• The better prepared you are, the more comfortable you'll be. Work with a coach if you have access to one. Bring in your song in the correct key for you - if you don't have a coach/pianist to work with, go to http://www.musicnotes.com and at least get the song in a comfortable key.

• Remember, the person you're auditioning for really wants to find someone that can do the job well. It's in *their* best interest for you to have a good audition. So remember, the person 'behind the desk' is really rooting for you , in a sense.

• Auditions are like a highly concentrated, short job interview. So, put your best foot forward, and be friendly and professional to everyone in the room.

A couple of colleagues have recently recommended "The Enraged Accompanist's Guide to a Perfect Audition" as an excellent source for audition tips. Haven't checked it out myself, but the comments have come from trusted sources.

Best of luck to you!
