What should I do if my baby ate soap?
Relax and monitor their poop. If it seems really hard or they have diarrhea, you may have an issue, but they’re probably going to be just fine.Additionally, I would check the ingredients of the soap to be safe and probably feed the baby some extra fiber to help get it out of their system. And in the future, feed your baby lots of finger foods between milk/formula feedings to curb that desire to eat random things. It won’t stop them… but it might help. :)
How do I take care of an one and half year old baby?
SleepingGenerally between the ages of 1 and 2, a toddler requires about 10 to 13 hours of sleep a day. Two to three hours in day time and 9-10 hours at night. From about one year, your toddler will settle down to sleep much more happily if the whole process of going to bed follows a routine. Babies love routine and rituals. Start the routine in the same way every evening, by giving a bath or if she does not care for it much, give a bed time feeding if she still has one or lie close to her and pat her rhythmically so as to relax her. Any time between 7 pm to 9 pm would be suitable. Position your baby's favourite soft toy next to her while she's sleeping. Just make sure your toddler is getting enough rest. And remember that every child is different, some need up to two hours more or less sleep than others.Feeding- By about 1 to 2 year old, your toddler should be moving towards eating the same food at mealtimes that the rest of the family are having. Although she may still be getting half or more of her daily calories from breast milk or formula, regular table food is helping to balance out her diet. Some toddlers may show a decreased appetite about now. In the second year of their life, baby's growth is slowing down and they may add only about 3-4kgs of weight. Teething also can make your baby lose interest in food. Try to strike the right balance between letting her eat when she's hungry and letting her pick at her food when she's not. Don't force food on her, but maintain control over her nutritious and healthful snacking between meals and breastfeed as often as your child wants and continue until a baby's second birthday. Although you can now start to offer foods you've been withholding milk, citrus fruits, egg whites, be on the lookout for any allergic reactions. Provide fruit or unsweetened yogurt for dessert at meals. Cheese is excellent too, because it neutralizes the acid that forms in the mouth and attacks tooth enamel. Take care to avoid foods that cause choking such as popcorn, hard candies, chunks of carrots, grapes, raisins and whole nuts. Cut or finely chop such foods, or simply wait until your baby gets older. Why do some people eat soap?
There is a medical condition known as pica, where people eat substances that have no nutritional value, it may include sand, or soap or clay. It is commonly seen in pregnant women, children and people with developmental disorders. Cause is not exactly understood but it has been linked to emotional stressors and other mental disorders, sometimes to deficiencies of trace elements
Can I give my 15-year-old son hot sauce as a punishment for his bad behavior?
Oh my goodness, NO!First it may be criminal. Assaulting a human being with a noxious substance that may cause choking, suffocation, inhaling vomit and swelling of the soft tissues in the mouth and throat could get you arrested. Forcing substances such as hot sauce into a human being has been known to cause medical emergencies.Second, I can’t imagine a 15-year-old boy complying with such a tactic. I hope that this isn’t a kid who has been assaulted so frequently by such actions that he submits. If that is true, there is a big, big problem all ready and I hope he gets out of your home fast.Third, “punishment” doesn’t work anyway. The word “punishment’ implies causing emotional or physical pain to a human being in the hopes their behavior will be forcefully changed. Punishment may cause immediate behavioral change, because a person has been forced, but does not teach anything or help the person make inner changes. If you have been punishing this kid for 15 years, this message is way too late I am afraid. There are options to guide adolescents, but they aren’t likely to work if the teen has spent their whole life being assaulted into submission. The options that work involve such approaches as logical and natural consequences, putting the responsibility back on the teen’s shoulders and allowing them to work through the consequences of the choices they have made, and spending time reasoning with them and helping them find rational solutions. If the parents cannot sit down and work out alternative solutions with a teenager because they have ruined the relationship by injuring the child physically and emotionally for years, and all they can think of is more injurious assaults, then this situation is pretty much at the end of the road.If you think you can salvage the situation — get some therapy for you, not necessarily for the teen. If there is a non-abusive relative he can live with, you might want to explore that, while you find out if there is anyway to restore the family relationships.
What are the harmful effects of eating small amounts of soap?
Fortunately, soap is generally non-toxic and is less likely to lead to poisoning, though it could disrupt your health with large amounts ingested over time. Even though all soap (except African Black Soap) is made with lye (it is the necessary binding ingredient that holds the water and oils together), when it goes through the saponification process and cures, the lye is neutralized no longer making it caustic. One possible long-term effect of eating soap to keep in mind is a blockage in or damage to the digestive tract. This side effect may require a medical intervention to remove or repair the issue. With that in mind, if you start to experience any negative symptoms that may be associated with eating soap (more on this later), it’s wise to speak with a health care provider. In short, swallowing soap will cause an immediate response much like swallowing ipecac. You will most likely throw up or spend some quality time on the toilet. As for me, if I am going to be spending that much time in the bathroom, I would rather it be in the shower, lathering up with a good bar of soap!
Can you die from eating cigarettes? How many cigarettes can you eat before you die?
YES! Eating just ONE cigarette would kill a child or light weight adult non-smoker. The LD (lethal dose) for nicotine is 0.5-1mg/kg for humans. So, if someone weighs 150 pounds, that's 68 kilograms, then their lethal dose would be between 34 and 68mg. 1 American cigarette typically contains 15-25mg of nicotine. (Source: Clinical Toxicology of Commercial Products by Gosselin, et al, 1984)The Viola Yee's response incorrectly claimes 30-40 cigarettes is lethal. The confusion arises from the source's (wikipedia's) data. The Wikipedia entry references the Washington Post article to quantify how much nicotine is in each cigarette. The Post article describes its nicotine "As measured using a method that mimics actual smoking, the nicotine delivered per cigarette". Here's the important part: cigarettes typically DELIVER 0.5-2.5mg nicotine/cigarette when smoked however they CONTAIN 15-25mg/cigarette. A very important difference!Considering nicotines popularity & toxicity, the low occurrence rate of accidental deaths is stunning. If you smoke or wear nicotine patches be aware that just ONE could KILL a curious child or even a foolish teenager.
Could making a young child eat soap and other chemical non-food irritants cause intestinal adhesions (please note this was done to me as a child 30+ years ago no one was recently harmed in this way that i know of)?
Soap is made from a food product, either beef tallow or a vegetable oil being split into 2 parts, the backing ester and the glycerin of a triglyceride. The backing ester is then bonded to a sodium ion, and typically additional salt is added. Your stomach typically breaks down triglycerides in a similar manner, so it isn’t much worse than eating french fries. In fact, some toothpaste brands use soap in them, versus others that use sodium laurel sulfate(a detergent, which is also colloquially called dish soap). Adult toothpaste has fluoride in it, which you shouldn’t be consuming, but children toothpaste is literally just soap and a bit of mineral grit, which is why it is okay for little kids, should they swallow it. Sodium Lauryl Sulfate is also used as a food additive in some brands of angel food cake mix to aid in frothing the mix up.Now, laundry detergent, on the other hand, does contain some pretty nasty stuff, like caustic chemicals and peroxide, that can cause some issues, so if this was what your parents gave you, you might be onto something as the cause.Otherwise, dish soap and bar soap both are fairly harmless, and made of food grade substances. The only case where this might not be true, is if the soap was home made, as an industrial soap manufacturer takes great pains to ensure their soap is fully reacted between the lye used in manufacture, and the fats. A home made soap bar, done by a non chemist hobbyist, might contain higher concentrations of lye(sodium hydroxide, a caustic chemical), and might cause you some problems. With any of these, it is highly unlikely you actually swallowed much soap, which decreases the chance of anything bad happening, even in the worst cases mentioned. Whenever I had a bar of soap placed in my mouth, I absolutely avoided swallowing, and drooled or spit any saliva filled with soap out of my mouth. Then, when the punishment was over, I always rinsed my mouth thoroughly under running water. Doing this, I would expect that you consumed no more soap, than you do every day when you brush your teeth for a few minutes, and then spit the soap of the toothpaste out and rinse.I would recommend looking at more recent changes to your diet, as I would suggest that a small amount of soap exposure 30 years ago is highly unlikely to be the cause of your present day concerns.
