My 2 Year Old Daughter Doesn

My ex doesn't engage with our 2 year old and 3 year old daughter. What is her problem?

Be the best parent that you can be and try to help your ex-wife be the best parent that she can be because that is best for your daughterShe should get a medical check-up to make sure there's nothing physically wrong with her, including post partum depression. You didn't say which of you have primary custody, but if she has custody, perhaps she's overwhelmed by the sheer volume of work that it takes to keep a toddler happy and healthy. Or perhaps, she may not interact with your daughter in your presence so as to let you take care of her while you're together. If you have primary custody, then perhaps your ex-wife isn't bonding with your daughter. Some parents never really bond with their kids. I've often thought this was because some people just shouldn't have kids, but perhaps it's based upon the way that they were raised, I.e., they just don't have role models who were interactive parents.

13 year old daughter doesn't pee at school?

I HATED the bathrooms at my school, and would never use them, even if I was despite.

It will eventually leave her with a weak bladder though. She'll either have to suck it up, and go to the toilet in school or risk a weak bladder when she's older.

Tell her how to use public bathrooms ie, not sitting on the seat or coating it in toilet paper. Bring a hand sanitizer to school, and use it before & after entering the bathrooms.

My two-and-a-half-year-old daughter doesn’t speak. What should I do?

You should have your daughter evaluated by a speech-language pathologist. Your pediatrician should be able to recommend one. If you are in the US, you can also get a speech evaluation through your local public school system.Heather Jedrus's answer to What should I do if my 2-year-old doesn't talk yet?Heather Jedrus's answer to My son is 2 years and 8 months old but he does not talk. My 3 year old daughter doesn't know her ABCs, is she behind?

My daughter is almost 3 1/2. She knows only a few of her ABCs, she can't sing the song right. She also doesn't seem to know her numbers either. She was in daycare up until the end of January. Now she stays home with me and we work everyday trying to learn them but she just gets up and does something else after a few minutes. I've worked with toddlers before, and I've seen some 2 year old who can sing the ABCs and count blocks or toys. Could my daughter be a little behind?

Why does my 2 year old daughter like to choke herself? It scares me!?

She chokes herself because it freaks you out.

My sister used to hold her breath and my mom would say "Breath honey come on breath" so it got her what she wanted: attention, so why would she do anything different?

When your daughter chokes herself say "Mommy doesn't talk to little girls who choke themselves, when you want mommy's attention say ________" (whatever you want that she can say). Then just look away from her and completely ignore her until she gets your attention in a more positive way. When choking herself stops paying off, she'll stop doing it.

And, in case you are worried: she can not choke herself to death, even if she did manage to squeeze hard enough to cut off her air supply the brain will send signals for her to let go, if she managed to override it (which most adults have difficulty doing) she could eventually pass out and her hands would relax and she would start breathing. Honestly humans can not choke themselves to death with their own hands.

Is it normal for my two year old daughter to not want her vagina wiped when being changed. ?

If you are using baby wipes...they are cold! Bet you would squeeze your legs together too. Hold the wipe in your hand for a moment and warm it up....or get a wipey warmer, or use warm washrags.

My 2 year old nephew doesn't seem to like me?

My nephew just turned two this month. My sister lives about three hours away from me but I have been there since the day he was born and we visit every weekend or two. I've babysat him, just the two of us, often, and I look a lot like my sis, so I doubt he sees me as a stranger. When he was 1 he would sometimes run to me when I came to visit, but not often. Now he kicks, screams, and throws a fit if I even try to get near him. Sometimes he will let me play with him, but he NEVER lets me pick him up, unless he's just woken up from a nap. He will let my parents and sister hold him and play with him and feed him and pretty much whatever they want, but when I even try to sit next to him, he tries to push me off the couch.

I have never done anything that would give him a reason to hate or be scared of me. I am very gentle and kind to him because I love him so much. I've read it's an independence phase, but mostly I read that the 2 year old does this to mom. He doesn't act like this with his mom. Only with me.

Any ideas?

My 2 year old daughter refuses to say "I Love You" or to give kisses. She otherwise speaks. Should I worry?

My daughter will repeat anything else you say to her, and doesn't otherwise seem to show any developmental delays or autistic qualities (I have an older son with Aspergers...), but this makes me worry...could she be antisocial? Have no empathy? That is scary to me! And now, she is going through a phase where she just SCREAMS all the time! (she has been rewarded for it and now uses it for everything...) Without a hug or kiss or I love you, this is getting extremely hard to deal with!!
