My 2003 Chevy Cavalier Has A Few Problems.

Why do people hate Chevy Cavaliers?

I have wounder that same question myself. It's a good AMERICAN car one of the few. I think it has a lot to do with the first fast and the furious movie with the Honda's everyone wanted one. I have had a 97 2.2l and that had 160k before i decided to get a 02 2.4l Z-24 and that now i have 130k on it and it runs like the day i bought it. faded peeling clear coat on the paint is my only problem, that is my only complaint. so enjoy your car take care of her and **** what people say.

2003 Chevy Cavalier LS accelerating on its own?

Last night when I left work my car was fine, but five minutes down the road it started to pick up speed on its own. I hit the brakes and it didn't slow down. I tried one foot on the brake, the other under the accelerator to get it unstuck and that didn't work. Finally I used both feet on the brake to get it slow down enough where I could pull over and force my car into park. I didn't turn off the engine, but it kept reving for few minutes then stopped, but my car was still running. I found out I need a new front crankshaft seal. Is this why it accelerated on its own, and how much will it cost to fix? I live in a rural area if that matters. My car is a 2003 Chevy Cavalier LS.

2003 Chevy Cavalier P0171 System too Lean (Bank 1) What to Do?

P0171 means system lean on bank #1. Since your particular vehicle is a 4 cylinder, there is no bank #2. What this means, is you have a vacuum leak somewhere AFTER the MAF sensor. In English, this means you have UNMETERED air entering the intake system somewhere. But in answer to your question, YES an improperly installed aftermarket air intake will most definitely cause that particular DTC to set. And YES, if oil from your K&N air filter gets onto the MAF sensor, it will certainly bugger it up. Check for any cracked or improperly installed rubber hoses, or anything in the air intake system that is the source of your vacuum leak.

Chevy Cavalier headlight issues?

I have an 05 chevy cavalier. A few week ago i got a new bulb for my headlight (at jiffy lube). It was working okay, then after a few day they both died. I went back, and when I go their one of them started working again so they replaced the other. The mechanic said one light would not stay in the socket tight enough. He got them both to work. A week later one died, and then a few days later they both died. Jiffy lube said It could be an electrical issue. Today I drove it, one light was dead and the other was dim. A few hours later the dead one was normal, and the dim one was dead. Also the high beams worked but only on the working headlight. when I turned the high beam off. Both head lights turned on but were very dim. Do I need to get to completely new headlights? or is there another solution? Please let me know.

Chevy cavalier timing chain break, car needs new engine??!!?

chevy cavalier ls 2002 2.2l ecotec/dohc 5 speed

my car had been running fine, just a slight little noise a day or so before it broke down, i was driving down the highway and it just suddenly stopped. my husband replaced the altenator and battery, still wouldnt run. had the car towed, shop says timing chain broke and ruined/bent valves, etc. 1. is this common. 2. is replacing the engine the only way to fix this problem. 3. is there any class action suit/recall for this problem. car just has 80000 miles on it, and isnt even 5 yrs old yet.

What problems go along with a bad catalytic converter?

A clogged catalytic convertor causes the symptoms of a loss of power when accelerating or going up a hill. This is an often overlooked cause of loss of power, can cause check engine fault codes and lights, and mechanics will often change a few parts unnecessarily , especially if it is only partially plugged. A couple ways I check for plugged cats when a low power complaint is a symptom, and other obvious basic maintenance items have been checked for service is to have someone hold the rpm at about 1800 to 2000 steady. Then check for a good push of exhaust with my hand from behind the tailpipe. A plugged or partially plugged cat typically leaves a hot sickly feeling exhaust flow from the tailpipe. Compare to a known good working car nearby, known to be performing properly and with the same amount of cylinders. That slow , hot sickly flow at 2000 rpm compared to the hard push blowing your hand away of a not clogged cat is a dead giveaway, and I have NEVER misdiagnosed a plugged cat , or made false diagnosis with this method. Another way is watching a vacuum gauge connected to the intake manifold. When revving up, if the exhaust is plugged the gauge reading will climb then begin to slowly drop as the exhaust pressure builds up. Further testing will be needed to verify which part of the exhaust is plugged. Diagnostic by codes is unreliable and until now I had not heard of it. A code p420 only refers to catalyst efficiency. And can be set by faulty o2 sensors. Removing the exhaust and testing for engine power returning to normal works. But the hot sickly flow has been most accurate with my experience, in several cases where shops had missed it, were stumped and called me to come check. They are always embarrassed for missing the simplicity, but need not, as cars and their complicated electronics and even age old problems can lead to loss of power without any immediately obvious cause.

2003 chevy cavalier - Loud knocking from inside engine?

my engine has a loud knocking sound coming from it. 2003 cavalier, 105,500 miles. It drives okay so far and I still owe $1800 so I hope it is going to last a few more months. I bought it used from a dealership 3 months ago. What is the knocking sound? Is the engine about to die? Its been doing this for about a month. Also would it be worth trying to repair, or wait for it to die out and get another car?

Humming Noise in 2003 Cavalier?

I have a 2003 cavalier with 87,000 miles on it. I just put a new set of struts on the vehicle about 3 weeks ago, and about a week later I started getting a buzzing or humming noise in the front of the vehicle, which gets louder as the car picks up speed. The noise sounds like the road noise you get from big off road tires, just a constant growling or humming that gets louder and faster as the vehicle speeds up but is not related to engine rpms, as coasting at idle does not change the sound till the car slows. I have just done an alignment on the vehicle, rotated the tires, even swapped them for a spare set I have, and it's still there. Sounds like it's coming from right in the center of the vehicle, just behind the firewall, and cannot be heard outside the vehicle or under it while in gear and wheels spinning. Vehicle also shows no signs of faulty wheel bearings, as one is only a few months old anyway, and the tranny fluid is full. Any help would be appreciated, as I and the guys at the shop I work at are stumped! I am thinking possibly an axle shaft, but could be something in the transmission itself.
