My 9 Year Old Daughter Is Mean To Our Full-grown Cat

My cat is almost a year old and only weighs 6lb, is that too small?

My vet didn't comment on her weight (so I'm not worried about her being underweight) but is she a normal size? She's a 'domestic short hair', one of those green eyed, black and white cats.

She was a stray till the RSPCA found her when she was 5 or 6 months old. They said she was infested with fleas :( and was very thin. Could it be that not having proper nutrition during vital stages of her life caused her growth to be stunted? Will she ever grow big like a normal cat?

Also, why does she swipe food (especially bread) from my plate? Is it just a cat thing? My dog never steals my food.

4 Year Old Being Mean to Animals?

Remove the child from the home. Babies and small children aren't intelligent enough to know when they're hurting an animal. This is why shelters and breeders never adopt/sell cats or kittens to people with kids under five years old. The fact he's smiling when he does it is a bit disturbing and if you don't do something RIGHT AWAY to prevent this this kid's likely to grow up to be psychopath.

If this beastly child must be in the home where the cats are then lock the little creature - and I don't mean the cats - in the bathroom every time he misbehaves. Clearly your "timeouts" aren't harsh enough or long enough as he has no fear of really being punished. Hell, I'd be locking this kid in a dark closet and leaving him there for an hour if this was me. But then again, I wouldn't have little kids in my home - period LOL

My cat is 5 years old... And she's only 5 lbs?

When you can not see their bones, then they are doing fine, he is a little underweight.

A house cat should weigh between 9 and 11 pounds on average.

Are you feeding him 2 times a day? Is he active? If active, don't worry... better to be healthy!

Do cats get meaner as they grow older?

Well it depends on the cat, and the sex of it, males tend to be more rowdy, and normally its the females that are lap cats, even tho one of my cat is a male and it likes its sooks but even that can turn and scratch you and doesnt let go compared to my other cat who likes its cuddles nd its plays but doesnt use its claws. In my personal opinion when cats are getting older they just like to sleep, they might go grouchy if you disturb them but they are more peaceful later on in life.

My 6-year-old female cat smacks my new male kitten on the head every time he gets near her. Will this likely change once he's neutered?

OP has clarified that she is bopping the kitten on the head when he is minding his own business, and chasing him to hide under furniture. Ai am editing my answer with that new info in mindCats have a unique behavioral pattern when they think the territory is overcrowded. A group will declare one cat an underdog and harrass it. I had this happen once when I tried to being a third cat into a small apartment, The other two underwent a campaign to scare him under the sink all the time so they did not have to share the space. When you talk about attacks of minimal violence, that are scaring the kitten into hiding, that's a lot what it sounds like. Your female does not want to share.Try expanding the territory, Cat shelves in particular can double perceived amount of territory in an apartment. Provide some that the kitten can't climb (spaced far apart) But also some easy ones that he can, cause he needs a safe escape route too, that isn't under furniture, Do what Jackson Galaxy suggests in creating a "cat superhighway" where a cat can traverse to room without coming down to the floor. If indeed this situation is triggering the "territory isn't big enough for two" instinct, that *may* help.New cat shelves will also be new territory, that no one owns, so that may help.Kitten needs to have enough confidence that he does not run and hide under furniture. Honestly, the best thing you can do for that is watch episodes of My Cat from Hell, as they deal with this problem often. When you've got shelves or cat tree that the kitten can get to, close off the spaces under furniture so he can't crawl in there.

Why does my adult cat meow like a kitten?

Thanks for the A2A.  Cats have different voices.  My Siamese cats have strong voices as Siamese often do.Pandora (on the right) has a very Siamese voice, with many different vocalizations.  When she wants us to open a window for her, for example, she has a specific vocalization just for that. (Sitting in the open window is one of her favorite things.  She doesn't understand why it is sometimes very cold or very hot and we don't want the window open.)  Portia's voice is also strong, but she doesn't have such a varied vocabulary.  I have never met a grown Siamese cat that sounded at all like a kitten. A Siamese doesn't necessarily even sound like a cat at all, especially when it is annoyed.  More like a banshee having a bad hair day. This delicate little flower is Brunhilde:She is a stray cat who adopted us.  She is not very vocal, but when she does talk she has a tiny little mew just like a kitten. She also trills and squeaks. Our little tabby Jenny tends to squeak and chirp more than meow. Her vocalizations have changed very little since her kittenhood. (She is about 6 years old now and we got her at 8 weeks.) She has never uttered a kittenish "mew" either now or when she was a kitten.  If Jenny actually meows it means she is very upset about something.  She meows up a storm whenever she has to go to the vet.I have had two cats in the past with very kittenish voices.  Little orange tabby Sonia had a classic kitten voice and she actually looked like a kitten for most of her life.  Big sweet Gus had a voice that did not remotely match his appearance.  People were always surprised to hear a tiny kittenish mew coming from a giant 24-pound tomcat. So the answer--or non-answer--to your question is that every cat, like every human, has its own particular voice.

Is a cockatiel a good pet for a 9 year old?

Yes, Cockatiels are good pets for a 9 especially when they are starters and yah cockatiels are perfect birds for starters. I have a 10 year old and she has five cockatiels and she says their easy to take care of.

Cockatiels need their cage to be cleaned out every 7 days which I mean once a week. Feed them new water every single day and feed them food every 2, 3 days. They are not annoying but u could find them a little bit noisy through out the day. Yes they can do cool tricks but only a certain of time if they want to entertain themselves they will do it. But if u want to see entertaining things from ur bird u might as well teach it and it will do it when u say.

Well Take care.

Does the father cat know his kittens?

I think it likely varies from tom cat to tom cat. We have a big Maine Coon tom (Kano). Here he is with one of his kittens. (Aslana)For the first few weeks after they were born he didn’t pay much attention to them and he treated the new mother with suspicion. When the kittens were ready to leave the birthing box we put them in a cage so they could explore safely without getting into too much trouble. He soon started to spend hours each day playing with them through the cage. When the kittens were old enough to go free range he shared his favourite sleeping place with whom ever joined him.He taught them to use the scratching post.He would groom them.Seven months on, here he is last night with his daughter Bellatrix. The other interesting thing is that at about three months old the mother of most of these kittens came back into heat and started to hiss at her own kittens, numerous times I saw the Kano protect them and administer some justice to the Queen. In conclusion, I am not sure he has the concept that the kittens were his but he certainly loves them and protects them. Father of the year we joke.Edit: thanks to all the upvoters. This is my first answer with over 1k. :) We kept two of Kano's kittens. Here is a picture of them eating together. From top to bottom: Aslana, Kano and Bellatrix. The red tribe we call them. Also one picture of the lovely Queen Zhadi.
