My puppy jumped off the couch. Now he is limping.?
I have a puppy who is maybe 11 weeks old. W found him so we don't really know. He jumped off the couch and I heard him whining. My boyfriend was in the room and said he saw the puppy jumped off the couch and landed wrong. The puppy is now limping. I told my boyfriend and he moved his limp leg and the puppy didn't whine or anything but when the puppy walks he is still limping. He didn't feel anything wrong with the puppy's leg though. He is now napping so we don't know. Is it possible that it is broken? The puppy limps but doesn't whine or do this cry when we touch the leg or anything.
What would cause a dog to start limping overnight?
I'm inclined to think its a systemic issue,rather than an orthopedic one, as 1) he woke up that way without an identifiable cause; nad 2) its difficult to figure out which leg is affected. Lyme disease or other tick borne diseases are often culprits, and the vet can do a SNAP test to check. If that comes back negative, do x-rays to check for arthritis as well as other orthopedic issues. Since multiple legs are affected, I'd think spondylitis, (arthritis in the spine) so make sure they include the spine in the pics.
Why is my dog yelping when I pick him up?
If this is a sudden development, and there’s no possibility that your dog recently had someone drop them (thus creating a new fear of being carried), you need to take them to the vet as soon as possible to rule out any issues.My friend used to have a terrier with lung problems, and so he absolutely hated anyone pressing on his rib cage- which was often required to pick him up. Those lung problems eventually killed him. Jake was fabulous, and is definitely missed.If your dog is older, it could be arthritis, and you jostling your dog as you pick him up causes it to hurt more. (My chihuahua had this issue.)If your dog has a hurt rib or ligament or something, that could also result in pain when lifted.It could also be back problems. Longer and shorter breeds will be more susceptible, especially if they are overweight.Your dog might also be asleep or otherwise distracted when all of a sudden someone lifts them up and scares the hell out of them. (My chi had this issue too, as he got older and lost much of his eyesight and hearing, and couldn’t tell you were coming. We would pat the couch next to him to let him know someone was there, and he would look for whoever it was, and then once he recognized the person, he was okay to be picked up. He made it to 16, so he had a lot of health issues near the end, poor guy.)Of course, the yelping could also be fear or panic. Medium/larger dogs are typically less okay with being picked up, because of both fear of heights and knowing their size (no dog wants to be accidentally dropped).If they’re being picked up by someone they don’t trust very much yet, that could be a factor, too. My chihuahua never liked being held by kids, but was okay with us holding him when we got older.
My dog is panting really fast and hard?
She's not overweight or old, pretty much the ideal weight for her size and she's only 1 year, she hasn't eaten anything weird but I don't know what's wrong. Tonight I heard her panting really hard and I just thought it meant she wanted to go out or play with the other dog, I took her out to go a couple times since then and now, and offered her some water but she's still panting reallt fast and is restless. I'm worried something happened to her when I wasn't around or she got into something when I left for school. Does anyone know what's wrong? It's been continuing for 2+ hours and she hasn't stopped. :(
My 1 month old puppy can't use her hind legs and it's getting worse. How can I help her?
You have to take her to a vet even though the likely hood is that she with be euthanized. Explain your financial situation to the vet and ask to pay a small amount each week or month. Please do not let this poor girl suffer anymore. It sounds like the puppy was born to a family dog. As your family don't care about animals find a no kill shelter to hand her too to ensure no more unwanted puppies are born.

What is the best brand of dog food for a pekingese?
Look for more natural foods. I've heard of Innova, Bill Jac, Natural Balance, Nutro. Try to stay away from stuff that lists corn as it's first product (usually corn meal). My dog eats Nutro Natural Choice Large Breed Puppy (she's a boxer shepherd mix), and it's the first food she's loved.
