My Boss Is Accusing Me Of Making The Cash Drawer Short And Told Me To Either

Is it legal for employer to charge me for short drawer?

It is illegal for an employer to short your pay for a cash shortage unless he can prove that only you had access to the drawer and that you committed gross negligence or theft. I see similar questions all the time, which leads me to believe that a lot of employers are pulling this stunt on vulnerable employees who need their jobs. Your employer sounds pretty sleezy.

If you were the only one who had access to the cash drawer, then the employer could take disciplinary action against you, including firing you. However, it sounds like other people had access to the drawer. It also sounds like you weren't the one who counted the money at the end of your shift.

Call your state's labor board to find out what your state's labor law is on this subject. You can also a search on the internet to see if anything comes up.

You should tell the employer that taking your money is illegal. If he does take your money, make sure you have documentation of what was done and take it to the labor board.

My drawer at mcdonalds is always short, and i dont know how?

like i work as cashier for back drive window, and everytime my manger counts my drawer im always missing something? and i dont get it, cause im giving out the right change and everything! and im new i just started may 1st so they been letting me slide . cause they think i just be counting to fast and giving out more than exspected, but how can i solve this problem?

I'm 17, my cash register was $30 short, my manager told me to sign...something..help?

You probably signed a written warning (basically saying don't let it happen again). They might take it out of your check, no way to know what you agreed to.

Yes, it probably will be in your employment record at party city, but don't worry about that. Those records are not public and your post college employers will not be calling them..

Rule of thumb. NO ONE ever touches your register but you once you sign it out. Second, always count your drawer out yourself or be in the presence of a person who does. If that person won't allow that, more than likely something is fishy.

Will I get fired for cash drawer being short?

many restaurants as a matter of policy do terminate for a shortage in excess of $20.00.....
add to that the fact that you have had attendance issues already and you are not helping your cause.....
TALK to the manager, hope they give you additional training, and a second chance.

they should/will not accuse you of stealing BUT you are guilty of
"failing to follow proper procedures, resulting in a cash shortage of $26.00".....
it does NOT matter why or how the drawer ended up short, if you were the responsible employee then you will be held accountable... make sure you follow all cash handling procedures, make sure the drawer is balanced before you take responsibility for it and make sure you keep it secure by limiting anyone else from having access to it.....

Can my boss make me pay for something i broke accidently?

So my boss sent me to pick up some items we were installing for a customer. He sent me in his company truck. The mirror wasn't working using the knob so I scooted over and accidently bumped a box that was used to control the trailer breaks. The box popped back on but this little knob that went in there didn't fit right. As soon as I got back I told him what happened and he flew off the handle and started making very rude and unnecessary remarks until he made me cry. I apologized and walked out. When he went to get the box fixed they said the box was so old that they didn't sell the parts to fix it anymore so he had to buy a new one. Then the next day when I went to work there was a note that I owed him 200.00 to replace it. Can he do that?

Missing money from my cash register?

Hi, I've had this job for only a month and these past two weeks I've been short by 10 to 15 dollars and I have no idea why. Today was such a bad day since I had a toothache but what's even worse I was short by 50 am I really don't have a clue why? When I clocked in today I only had 50 dollars in my register including coins. The shift leader let me "borrow" 100dollars just in case it got busy and left home. Now when the other shift leader did the cash pull she kept telling me that I was missing money. She looked everywhere and couldn't find anything. She was pissed off when I told her that I was working tomorrow. She also told me that I don't known what you're going to do but the manager is going to talk to you. I'm freaking out, I'm so angry that I feel like crying. I don't know what may happen. This is my first job and I really don't want to lose it especially if they accuse me of stealing. I've been job hunting for years and now what? So what do you guys this may happen? I live in California if that even matters.

Falsely accused of stealing from work?

Apparently $200 magically went missing from my register. I was told my managers would talk to me tomorrow. Not sure about what probably to accuse me of stealing and then firing me and take my paycheck away.

I want to know what I can do. I didn't take this money and I've never had a register short for so much. I've been a few dollars short at max in other jobs and only rarely. I wasn't the only person on this register even though I was supposed to be and I don't know who else was on it. I'm not saying they took it but they could have easily made a mistake on the register and failed to report it.

I had some friends tell me to threaten to call the cops if they tried to deduct it from my paycheck. I'm also worried this will show up on my record or something making it impossible for me to find a new job.

Help please.
