My Car Stalls When Slowing Down Or Stopped And Idling.

My car keeps stalling when slowing to a stop or idle.?

I believe you need a new idle air bypass valve. Get a manual and find out how to check it. If that's not it, then it's a bad cold start valve or bad fuel pressure regulator. Most likely the first, since when you hit on the gas it continues to run. When you hit the gas pedal it compensates for the stalling by increasing the throttle, which gives the engine enough fuel to stay running.

Yeah, this would be assuming you have a fuel injected car.

Also could be a vacuum leak from past experience. That's what it originally sounded like. But it' tough to understand what your saying.

Car stalls rarely, when driving and slowing down?

some of those cars had an inline fuel filter that is in next to a frame rail between the engine and gas tank follow the gas line towards the back and make sure to replace a can looking thing. You may need a special tool to remove the fuel line. Since you have not mentioned this yet I suggest that you do two things change the fuel filter and dump a can of lucas fuel treatment in the tank fill the car up with chevron super unleaded and drive the pee out of the car on the freeway. if in all that driving you used el cheapo regular you have not kept the fuel injection as clean as it needs to be. chevron has techron a fuel system cleaner I suggest you switch to super unleaded chevron and see how the vehicle runs after a fuel filter change. good luck.

My car keeps stalling when I slow down/come to a stop?

I drive a 1999 Mitsubishi galant with 66,000 miles. One month ago as I was driving at highway speed I heard a loud bang sound then my service engine light went on. I then pulled over to the shoulder and shut off my car. When I opened the hood I noticed that the belt had come loose. I got it towed to the mechanic and he said that a part called the harmonizer had failed. He charged me $550 including the towing fee, parts and labor. As I drove away, I noticed my car was accelerating really slowly. The car ran fine after wards but my fuel efficiency dropped after that day. One week ago, my car would not start even with a boost. The next day It started and ran fine, still consuming more gas than usual. Yesterday once again the car did not start so I jiggled the pole connections on the battery. That seemed to do the trick but as I drove away the RPM drop to zero and the car stalled. I bought a gas cleaning agent and put it in to my gas tank. Now the car runs better but Im afraid to drive it because I don't want it to stall on me. I don't trust the mechanic who changed the harmonizer because I think he overcharged me for a halfassed job on my car. Im a college student and I make little money. What on earth could be causing my car to stall when I come to a stop?

My BMW 740iL is stalling when I stop or slow down, how can I diagnose the problem?

First thing to do is check if you have any diagnostic trouble codes (especially if your check engine light is on). Which codes are present will help determine what the problem is.If the problem occurs once the car is already running but when you come to a stop and idle, chances are it could be something like a misfire or vacuum leak or dirty throttle body / idle air control valve passages. What is probably happening is that the computer thinks you’re getting more air than you actually are… if the problem goes away by pressing the gas pedal a little, that helps confirm it.

Why does my car idle at a really low RPM while stopped, and start shaking?

You may have a misfire, a vacuum leak, or a clogged/faulty idle air control valve. It could be a couple other things, too, but those are the most common and first things you should explore. This is because:If you have a misfire, one of your cylinders is not working and while that may be less noticeable at higher speeds when the engine is spinning really fast and the throttle is wide open, at lower speeds the difference is more apparent. If there is no misfire (and no codes / check engine light), the problem is most likely air related. This could mean a vacuum leak from a hose or the intake manifold itself. Or, commonly, it could be that your Idle Air Control Valve is clogged or not working well. The engine monitors via sensors how much air is coming in vs engine speed and uses that to control fuel injection and ignition timing. If it's a vacuum leak, the engine is getting more air than it thinks it is and that is causing a 'lean' fuel/air ratio. If the IAC valve (and its passages around the throttle plate) are clogged up, the engine thinks it's getting more air than it really is at idle with the throttle plate closed (foot off the gas), resulting in a 'rich' fuel/air ratio. All of these scenarios will probably cause some sort of engine code and checking them should be your first step. Note that an oxygen sensor code will be indicitave of one of the above 'air' situations because it detects how rich or lean the ratio is.

Why does my car stutter when i slow down or stop?

I own a 1991 buick regal (yes i need a new car) but when i slow down or stop the car stutters. It's almost as if the car is going to turn off. What can i do on my own without bringing the car into a shop, or do i need to bring it to a shop ASAP?

My car turns off when I slow down or stop?

I am not real familiar with this vehicle but there is one common component that fits your description. The EGR (exhaust gas recirculation ) valve would cause this concern. EGR is only commanded of idle and if this valve sticks open after driving it will cause an unstable idle or even a stalling. A trained technician could check this for probably what you spent on the idle air control valve. There are other things that could cause this also, so I recommend having it tested.

Every time I slow down my car feels like the engine is going to stall what could be the cause of the problem?

Another potential problem to add to the list.Older cars can get carbon buildup in the exhaust manifold. If it flakes off, it can get into the EGR valve and leave it stuck open. The intent of the EGR valve is to let exhaust gas from the engine back into the intake manifold to help reduce NOx emissions. It should only be open at higher engine speeds. If the EGR valve is stuck open at idle, it can make the engine run really rough or even stall. It lets more air into the intake manifold than proper for the fuel level.I had this happen on a 1995 GMC Safari with about 200,000 miles.

How can you fix a car that stalls while idling?

Hold the gas pedal down a little bit while you're sitting still.Oh you wanted the non-redneck solution? Take it to a mechanic and find out why the idle is off. There can be multiple reasons. Electrical parts wearing out is common - bad plugs, bad ignition coils, bad battery, bad alternator, bad plugs, bad plug wires, etc. ad nauseum. Fuel system problems are also a common cause of this - bad fuel pump, clogged lines, clogged filter, bad gas (fresh gas and a gas treatment will fix that). If this happens after the car warms up then it could be a couple of different things that are also fairly common - overheating due to cooling system problems, or malfunctions in the cold start warm-up system (my RX-7 had that issue for a while). There's a million things that can cause the engine to fail to maintain idle. It can be very hard to troubleshoot this problem sometimes. There's nowhere near enough info in your question to even take a guess. You're gonna need to seek professional help.

Why does my bike's engine stop when it is slowed down?

There could be various reasons for this, listing some of them below:-You bike's Idle RPM is lower than minimum thus engine stops. You can easily change it by rotating a lever usually placed near the fuel pipe inlet on the right side.(could be at a different location in your bike).Your air fuel mixture is lean and thus it stops when slowed down. This can be checked easily at a local bike service repair shop. Ask them to check AFR(air fuel ratio). You are riding slow at higher gears, To avoid this one need to change his/her riding habits. There are other reasons also, like accidentally you fuel tank has got some amount of water in it, you carburetor or fuel injection(FI) passage is not clear. Check these also at local bike service repair shop.Hope these might be useful.. :)
