My Car Transmission Is Leaking And Is Whining When I Press The Gas Pedal Its A Manual Transmission

Why do I have transmission fluid up to my carburator?

I believe you have a leaky modulator. There is a diaphram in it that should keep the fluid from leaking through. The diaphram probably has a hole in it and letting the fluid get sucked down through the carb.

If your engine is running rough while idling in gear, you may have a vaccum leak. I'm guessing that's why you were changing your modulator hose.

The smoke could be tranny fluid. Change your modulator and that problem could be solved. Does your car have a problem downshifting when coming to a stop?

I believe the modulator helps your car to downshift when stopping. When the vaccum pressure from the engine is higher, like when you have your foot off the gas pedal and on the brake, the modulator senses the pressure. When you open the throttle, the pressure decreases.

With your engine running rough, I'm thinking that it's running rich. That will give you black smoke and use lots of gas. The blue may be from the tranny fluid. Check your tranny fluid and see if it is low. It may be burning it and blowing it out the tail pipe.

Best Wishes

Black transmission fluid?! Hard shifting?! Is my car doomed?!?

Let me start off by saying AHHHHHHHHHH!!!!

Okay. Now, I have had nothing but problems since I purchased a used car. It's a 2002 Buick Century. Lately, it lets out a high pitched whine, has trouble shifting gears (its an auto tranny but you can feel it struggle), and I was told to check the tranny fluid and, of course, its f***ing black. Also, it doesn't have any power driving uphill and I have to put the gas pedal to the floor just to get it to go. What should I do? How doomed is this car?!

How can i get my car to stop bogging down when i press the gas pedal?

Is the car fuel injected or carbureted? Is smoke coming out of the back of the engine or out of the tail pipe? If it's coming out of the tail pipe, what color is it? If it's black, your car is running rich and wasting a lot of gas. If the smoke is white, you may have a blown head gasket which allows water to get into the cylinders. If it's blue, you're leaking oil into the cylinders probably through a valve guide. If the smoke is coming from the back of the engine, most likely it's a bad valve cover gasket. Oil drips onto the exaust manifold and turns into smoke.

There are several possibilities for the chugging. If you haven't already done so, check your fuel filter. If it's dirty, change it. It could be starving for fuel. A bad vaccuum hose can cause the rpm's to go up and down. It could also effect the performance of your engine.

Do you have a catalytic converter? This could collapse inside and build up too much back pressure. If your car is fuel injected, you'll have an onboard computer. Before the cat converter, and sometimes after as well, there are oxygen sensors. They tell the computer if the exaust is too rich or to lean. The computer will make adjustments accordingly. So if they're bad, they'll send the wrong information. This could make your car run bad.

So do the easiest and cheapest things first. Look for a broken or disconnected vaccuum hose and change the fuel filter. A majority of the time, this will solve your problems. While your at it, check the air filter too.

I hope this helps you out some. Good luck.

My Car makes a grinding noise when i press on the gas pedal..?

It's one of 3 things.
1. Bad CV joint.
2. Broken/loose engine mount.
3. Broken/loose transmission mount.

The good news is worse case scenario $250 should take care of it.

2006 chevy impala ls-engine hesitates during acceleration,NO check engine light. What could be the problem?

Rockele, change the fuel filter 1st then if you have never done so change the gas cap. both are important for the fuel system presure and emissions. I suspect the fuel filter is the issue though due to no lamp code. its a common problem and with the poor fuel quality many stations actually have its a wonder were not all parked on the road sides. this filter should be changed every 6 months minimally. you may even add a bottle of chevron techron fuel treatment to clean up the system. unfortunately there is another possability after these and that the electric fuel pump in the gas tank. chevys are notorious for this. if the car has cranked a long time before starting up this is most often the problem.

Scheduled Timing Chain Replacement 2005 Nissan Xterra?

I was going through my scheduled maintenance booklet for my 2005 Nissan Xterra and I didn't see anything regards to replacing the timing chain. I already had the timing chain tensioners replaced at around 58,000 miles because of a whining noise but see nothing on a replacement on the chain itself. Also when is a good time to replace the water pump? I have 80,000 miles on the vehicle now.

Why is my car making a howling sound at the inside base of the foot pedals (gas and brake)?

Your dog is stuck in the foot well. Every time you depress a pedal, you squish a howl from him. To fix, remove dog, take him inside and give him a treat. Many variables involved here. Does it occur when your are driving? At what speed does it occur? Are you depressing the pedals up and down? Is the vehicle at standard or automatic transmission? You could have an air leak in the firewall. The clutch slave cylinder could be binding if it occurs when you depress the clutch pedal. The pedal pivots might need lubrication. Something could be loose that is vibrating at speed. You might have a plastic bag or leaf stuck in the blower motor or vents.A lot more info is needed to figure this out. The above are just a few of many possibilities.

My car makes a faint whistling sound if I let off the accelerator at around 30kph. The sound slowly decreases in pitch as the car coasts. What could cause this?

There are main things that can cause this, particularly without knowing the general direction of the noise. To narrow it down you have to answer the following question: If you rev the engine in neutral and stationary, do you hear the noise? If yes, then it's related to the engine or its auxiliary components. Could be:Vaccuum leak: you might be able to confirm roughly the source by listening under the hood while someone revs the engineBad ground connection: the sound might actually be coming from the speakers. If it's not affected by revving the engine, then it's either transmission or suspension. If you can pinpoint the general direction of the noise and it comes from one of the corners, it's going to be a wheel bearing.I can't truly provide insight into the transmission at this point in time.I'm fairly confident it's the wheel bearing. Please let me know when you find out, or when you get more info. Thanks for asking and goodluck.

Can we shift from first to second gear without pressing clutch or is it necessary to press clutch for all gears?

Long time ago I had a friend who worked for a towing company. He was very knowledgable about cars, racing, etc. He told me this could be done. I doubted it. Also, I didn’t want to try it on my precious Datsun B210. I had souped it up a little, and didn’t want to try doing tricks that would cost me my ONLY car for transportation, recreation, etc.Well, one day he wanted to know how my car handled. So we went on a drive southbound on the 405 freeway around 12:50pm. It wasn’t clogged with traffic as it is today. He mentioned it again; changing gears without the clutch. I told him, NO, and laughed. He said, you can do it. So he attempted to talk me through it. My car had no RPM gauge so I had to go by the sound of the revving motor. At 68mph in 4th gear, I attempted to switch into 5th gear without the clutch. I kinna new when the car was red lining, so I listened to him, listened to the car, took my foot off the gas and slowly creeped the stick into 5th. I was amazed, and thankful I didn’t grind my gears to hell!On another day we grove down a long street without signal lights. As I took off in 1st gear, I slowly moved stick to 2nd and then to third gear without the clutch. Yes, it can be done! I wouldn’t advise it for the weak at heart or someone that isn’t prepared to tear their gears up, but it can be done. Down shifting without the clutch can be done also. I know how, matching the RPMS, etc, but I haven’t done it, and will not try. ;) Plus many of the new cars have manual mode that will allow you to shift without clutch. That’s enough fun for me. How times have changed.

If your car is out of control and the brakes have failed, will putting it in the reverse gear slow down the car, and what would the best alternative thing to do be in this scenario?

The ans is. " no "When you are driving forward, the gears are connected to the driving shaft(which is connected to tyres and is rotating in same direction.)Putting it to N (neutral) disconnects the drive shaft from the engine. So if you will put the gear selector to reverse,it will force the drive shaft to move in the other direction. (Opposite to that of the wheel)As a result ,the excessive force will break the connecting shaft or the gear box.(but not stop the vehicle)*this happened to me about 2 months ago. While I was returning from shopping suddenly I heard an unusual sound . "bang"I was like "what was that??"I tried to press the brake pedal to look what had happened, but found me in shock and teror. The brake pedal had frozenIt wasn't moving even a mm .I Felt this was the end .I could see my loved ones in front of my eyes. But .......I didn't want it to happen( my speed was around 70 kmph )I took a deep breath and engaged it to neutral , pressed the button located on the handbrake and kept pulling it slowly and slowly.(Remember : pulling the full hand brake quickly can drift your vehicle and you can lose control. )So this gives you the answer :Do the following stepsBe calmEngage in neutralPress the hand brake buttonPull it slowly slowlyThank-you.This is the button(which I am referring to) :But in the modern cars this lever has been swapped away be electronic handbrakes .EDIT 1 : I saw lots of people saying to shift to a lower gear. I want them to know that there was traffic behind me and doing that could have resulted into severe accidents.EDIT 2: thanks Biishwajyoti dutta majjumdar for the correction
