My Cat Is Very Weak And Bleeding After Giving Birth

My cat is bleeding after giving birth, what should I do?

It depends on how much blood there is and how long it's going on for. If she is actively bleeding more than a trickle, or if she is exhibiting signs of weakness, you need to get her to the vet ASAP. You will need to take the kittens as well if she is able to nurse them. If not, you are going to have to leave them with someone who can feed them every few hours.

Why is my cat bleeding after giving birth? She gave birth to 3 kittens 3 days ago. Should I be worried?

Yes you should be worried. I hope you have already contacted your vet. I'm concerned that with noticeable bleeding she could have retained placenta and is at risk of anemia. Check her gums for paleness. She needs iron rich food like diced chicken liver, warmed but raw if she'll tolerate it. To show the vet how much she's bleeding try to place guaze 4X4's under her bottom. Even if she's alright she'll need kitten chow & milk supplement so she can nurse her babies better.

What should I do if my cat is still bleeding for 6 days after giving birth? What is the normal amount of postpartum bleeding on cats?

If you have not had a vet look at your cat, get an appointment as soon as possible. i don’t know how long they bleed post partum, but your cat has a potential for infection if bleeding more, day by day, rather than less. My cat just had kittens a week ago and does not appear to have any discharge. A heavy discharge could, as noted, indicate infection or tissue remaining in the uterus. Does your cat seem active or weak and tired? Does she have a fever? It’s easier to get her checked than to lose her suddenly and then have to care for a bunch of kittens.

Do cats go thru the same thing as women do after giving birth to kittens? Do they get depressed?

Not in my experience with cats. They get tired and need good nourishment to regain their strength and to feed the kittens. As far as being depressed, well, you would need to ask a cat. Depression is something that cannot be recognized by just looking at someone or something. Perhaps they may be after the ordeal of birthing kittens, I am just not sure if they have the same hormonal conditions humans experience. My cat just had two litters and she got straight into mothering. I never once saw her reach for a bucket of ice cream or sob into a pillow. However, she did leave the kittens with me a few times after having enough of their squirming and suckling. I think animal mothering is more instinctive where human mothering is more a choice.

My cat is sick after giving birth two weeks ago, is this normal?

my cat had her first litter of six kittens two weeks ago, and she's been behaving strangely. she isn't eating much, is becoming very thin, her meow has turned to a scratchy cackle, and she follows me around and meows at me. this morning she was sitting on one of the kitchen chairs and when she hopped up i noticed blood where she was sitting. i've been feeding her chicken and soft cat food to encourage eating the last several days, but she just nibbles at it and turns away. i want to take her to a veterinarian but everyone keeps trying to assure me that this is normal behavior post birth.
she's still nursing the kittens regularly, but her behavior is odd and i'm worrying about her.
should i take her to the vet or is this really normal?

My 16 year old cat is bleeding from her nose for 6 days now...?

it's a terrible thing to have to do but you need to have the vet tell your parents that your cat is going to die and the right thing to do is euthanize so she doesn't have to suffer.

Is it normal for mom cats to get really skinny after giving birth?

Yes its very normal as now she is using up extra calories because she is feeding kittens,it takes lots of calories for her to produce milk so all she eats goes to feeding her kittens, the best diet for a cat feeding kittens is wet kitten food as it is higher in calories and protein,

this will help her produce milk but at the same time maintain her weight,if skinny she will also gain the weight back, its also fine for her to eat her usual food too and feed on demand is best as she will be hungry feeding her kittens,

so yes feed wet kitten food and she should improve not only in weight but her energy levels.

Why is my cat bleeding a lot, but she gave birth one day again to 2 kittens?

Sounds like too much blood is being lost from a bad delivery, but I don’t know anything about cats. Try googling 24 hour gets in your borough. There seems to be one in different boroughs if you are within NYC.I wouldn’t wait until the morning as the mommy cat may lose too much blood and die before you can take her at more convenient hours.I’ve never used them below, but they got 3.5 Stars so try them. Veterinarians have ‘Care Credit’ (pay regularly within several allotted months and there is no interest if the balance is paid off within that time frame) plus other ways to make partial payments so don’t worry about that right now. OMG! My cat just gave birth while i was sleeping!?

Try to find a space that you know she likes. it needs to be fairly quiet, dark & out of the way so that she feels her babies are safe. Usually an area in one end of a closet works pretty well .You can leave the door open a little bit so she can come & go for food, water & litterbox. Put down soft rags, old towells or something old of yours with your smell on it for her & the kittens to sleep on. Most cats, in good health , are great mothers. They clean up behind them, nurse them & soothe them so you will have very little to do other than to make sure not too many people go in to "see the kittens". Don't pick them up too much untill they at least get their eyes open & don't let others pick them up either. It makes Mama Kitty very nervous. It is o.k. to very gently stroke them every once in awhile though. Be sure to still pet/love her when she'll allow it & be sure to keep plenty of fresh water & food down for her & of course keep her litterbox clean. Congratulations on this increase in your family.
