My Cat Scratched Me And The Scratch Is Puffy

What should I do if I'm scratched by a stray cat?

Usually nothing. Most feline illnesses cannot jump to humans and usually spreading with bodily fluids, stool (parasites) or airborne. The claws however used to be dirty so wash your scratch with soap and running water, for a few days sometimes check it. If it’s red and only slightly swollen then you are OK, it’s healing. If it turns to blue/purple/dark red, feels hot and massively swollen then one of the coccuses (Staphylococcus or Streptococcus) got you, so you might need some antibiotics. If you developed fever, headaches and/or your lymph nodes start swelling then it might be a bartonella infection and it’s time to visit your GP. (If the later two happened, then it also worth to check why your immune system couldn’t deal with it.)Alternatively if you like medicines, you can go for a rabies and a tetanus shot and take a lot of antibiotics and sue everybody around for damages :).

My cat scratched me and the scratch is puffy?

About an hour ago, my cat scratched my arm. It wasn't too deep, but now it is still VERY puffy. It doesn't normally look like this when she scratches me. Is this normal or is there something wrong?

Why do I swell and itch when a cat scratched me?

Cat scratch fever, also called cat scratch disease(CSD), is a bacterial infection. The disease gets its name because people contract it from cats infected with Bartonella henselae bacteria, one of the most common bacteria in the world.

So, my cat just scratched me on my face...?

its 2-3 inches long but not too deep... its red and puffy though. Should I be concerned about getting cat scratch fever? and what about scaring? how should I treat it? Is neosporin ok?

Minor cat scratch swelled up a bit, and is itchy?

Hi my cat recently got checked for diseases and types of things that can spread, and I am somewhat allergic to her.
I got a minor scratch from playing with her (barely scratched the surface, and it swelled up a bit and is pretty itchy
it sort of looks like a mosquito bite that ended up in a straight line on my hand.
I've had a tetanus shot within the past 5 years.

When a cat scratches you, why does the cut become puffy and burning?

Cats have more and different bacteria than you or I or even dogs. Cat scratches and bites are notorious for getting infected.

There are some things you can do for cat scratches and bites.

Right after you're bitten or scratched, wash the affected area with soap and water for at least 5 minutes, making sure you clean it out as well as you can. Afterwards, you can apply hydrogen peroxide if you'd like. Next, cover the wound in anti-biotic ointment and then cover that with loose gauze or a bandage. If you're not up on your tetanus shots - go to the doctor and get one ASAP.

For scratches, just keep an eye out on the wound, as scratches are less likely to do real, serious damage to you. However, if the scratch gets seriously infected: GO TO A DOCTOR! Don't mess around.

For a bite: monitor the wound carefully. If it shows any signs of an infection - GET TO A DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY! Cat bites are dangerous and many people who've ignored infections from cat bites have had to spend days or weeks in the hospital later.
