My Cat Smells Like Gasoline/oil

My cat smells like gasoline/oil?

She likes to sleep in the garage and we think she might've gotten the stench from it onto her. She doesn't feel like she has anything on her fur. What should we do? What kind of shampoo is good to wash this off of her?

My cat smells like gasoline? Is this bad?

Here is a great free resource. www. veterinarypartners.com

How can i get smell of gasoline off my cat?

Try dish soap. Dawn works best, but I think anything would work. This might dry out your cat's skin, but it should be able to rejuvenate with it's natural oils after a couple of days. Don't use too much! And don't get it in your cat's eyes or allow it do ingest any! (Sorry to be obvious, but some people don't think about stuff like that)

Cats fur smells like gasoline?

It stormed really bad last night, and my cat got caught out in it. She would not come in for nothing. This afternoon, I let her in and noticed that her fur looked funny and when I smelled her she smelled strongly of gas, and the white part of her fur was this blackish brownish color.

I have no clue where she would have gotten into something like that, and I want to take her to the vet, because I am scared she will try and clean herself and that stuff is toxic, but my dad wants try and bath her and see if that works.

What would you guys recommend I do? And when we do bathe her, is there something I can use that will make it easier to get the smell and chemicals off of her?

HELP my cat got into gasoline?

Gasoline is soluble in some parts of our tissues, so it will basically be absorbed into the skin in small amounts. Depending how much and where, it can be quite toxic, or you may see no ill effects at all. (My father siphoned gasoline by mouth as a youth and ended up swallowing a significant amount so that he was belching gas-burps a day later .. but he was fine) So even washing with soap may not remove the smell completely, if the cat's tissues have absorbed the gas. Of course you want to get off as much as possible, to limit the amount absorbed; but gasoline is not as soluble in soapy water as it is in parts of the cat's body, so a small amount that has already absorbed will remain and will just have to evaporate away or break down. So you can expect that even after 3 baths (another is unlikely to help) there is still some odor that will persist for a few days at most. It should be slight enough that it won't make other things she contacts smell and it should not be very dangerous to the kittens. At least, you've done everything you can do to alleviate the danger to them.

Our cat is freaked out and smells like gasoline?

Unfortunately it sounds like someone may have tried to hurt him. How awful.

Get him bathed ASAP. Gasoline is a solvent and can permanetly damage skin. I had a freak accident at a gas pump and ended up doused in gasoline, so I can tell you from my own personal experience gasoline burns like heck. Bathe the cat with *no soap*, just warm running water for a good 15-20 minutes. Rinse him well. He'll fight but this has to be done. Flush out all the gasoline. When you think you've gotten it all out, rinse him for another 5 minutes.

After you've gotten him clean, take him to the vet. Who knows what else might have happened.

And please, for the love of your cat, keep him inside!!!! Obviously some effed up SOB tried to light your cat on fire with gasoline. It may be he was just under a car but not many cars leak gasoline (oil, yes, but not gas). This sounds deliberate.

Do you like the smell of gasoline?

[Firefighter / Engineer; HazMat Specialist]Back when old underground fuel tanks were all being removed from the ground (approx 1986 - 1996), I had a side-line job with an environmental cleanup company.Whenever someone dug a hole and we smelled gasoline, that meant that the tanks had leaked and an expensive cleanup was going to be required. So, when I smelled gasoline, it meant that I was going to be making lots and lots of money… couldn’t help but like that smell [“I love the smell of napalm {gasoline} in the morning”]. Playing with gasoline-soaked dirt during that 10 year period pretty much filled-out my retirement savings. But seriously: Some people do find the aromatic odor of gasoline very pleasing… other people find it quite distasteful. I fall somewhere between those two extremes. For me, a slight odor of gasoline brings back memories of (1) fathers mowing lawns on a sunny summer Saturday while we kids all ran amuck, playing throughout the neighborhood, and (2) my teenage “gearhead” years.Of course, no one should really be sniffing gasoline. Prolonged exposures will kill brain cells and rot your liver… benzene and other constituents of gasoline are known human carcinogens.

My engine oil smells like gas, I do I fix this.?

The engine is being over-fueled by the fuel injection system or carburetor. The jerking you "feel" are the spark plugs not being able to ignite such an over - rich fuel mixture in the combustion chambers. Unburned gasoline is traveling through your exhaust system and partially burning in the converter instead of the combustion chambers. Raw fuel is washing down the cylinders into the crankcase oil. A rotten plugged-up air cleaner can cause this.

We must know the year make and model of your car to have any chance of helping you out. A car is not just a car, they're all quite different.

If your car hasn't had a tune-up in the past 50,000 miles it's over due. Possibly the plug gaps are burned too wide so the spark can't jump the gap. The ignition wires should be replaced right along with the spark plugs. * It's imperative the the car gets the factory recommended spark plugs. They'll be listed in the book in the glove-compartment. If the book is missing the dealer of your can tell you exactly which plugs it should have.

You've got a lott of stuff to check and we know nothing about your car!
