My Cats Paw Is Infected

My cats front paw is infected?

I noticed my cat limping and I took a look at him and saw that where his nail goes back into his paw, it's bleeding and pussing. Also the pad of his foot. It's swollen and it smells really bad. It just happend yesterday. I don't have the money to take him to the vet but I don't want to give him anything that might be dangerous to him (ex. peroxide or something) My dog sort of had the same thing on her paw and it went away a few days later but it wasn't this bad. Any suggestions? Don't suggest something unless you know for sure it won't harm him. Thanks.

How can i tell if my cat's paw is infected?

The first signs of infection would be swelling and your cat would be reluctant to walk on it,
other clues is that it would smell pretty bad and have pus oozing out of it,
but you would need it to be treated with antibiotics off the vet to clear it and if its a bad infection(deep)your cat will need it to be drained at the vet, meaning an overnight stay,
but while waiting for an appointment you could bathe the paw in warm salt water twice a day,
but your cat will still need a vet check if you suspect an infection.

How can I tell if my cat's claw is infected?

Claw and Nail Disorders in CatsTake a look at the above website. If you had a cut and it was infected it would be red, could be oozing pus (a sure sign of infection), inflamed, etc. You would go to the Doctor. In this case, if you’re asking the question, then something must be making you think it’s an infection. You should take your cat to the vet. If you call and ask, they won’t give a diagnosis over the phone, but they MAY give you an idea of how serious it is by asking you questions. They are qualified to know the answer, so unless a vet responds here, you should make an appointment. If you lack funds, there is probably a low cost pet clinic in your area, do a google search.I hope your cat is better soon!

What is the treatment for an infected cat paw?

If your cat has an infected paw, then a visit to the veterinarian is in order. Firstly, the cat would need some type of medicine for it, usually some form of antibiotics which could be given by an injection there, or oral pills to administer at home. It is important to determine the cause of the infection, is it from an injury or for example, is there a foreign object stuck in the paw such as a piece of glass, it is an abscess or is there another cause for the infection? Infections can turn dangerous and I am sure the infected paw is causing the cat some discomfort and pain that can improve once medication from the vet is administered. Don’t try to treat it yourself with human preparations for infections as some of these are not safe for a cat.

My cats claws have overgrown and now her paws are infected?

All the above, it's easily fixed if you continue to care for her paws and claws after the vet visit. Cats should have their claws clipped with a nail clipper once a week-just like dogs. Be careful of the quick-where the vein comes down- but when you start doing it on a regular basis the vein usually draws back pretty far. If your cat will not be outdoors or will not use a scratching post/pad, their claws get long. The reason cats scratch is to remove the outer cuticle from their claw, kind of like when we need to cut our own nail, a little different.

How do you treat an infection on a cat's paw?

Most infections need to be treated with either oral antibiotics or special soaks or sprays. These will have to be obtained after a visit to your veterinarian. These infections can get bad and have several underlying causes so it is best to have your pet examined instead of trying to treat it by yourself at home.

How can I know if a cat wound is infected?

An infection on you or your cat will appear the same way as any other infection . Infections generally have swelling, redness, tenderness in the infected area, pain, and sometimes oozing. If you suspect an infection, the smartest thing for you to do is to seek mefical treatment right away. If the infection is on your cat, get it to a vet. Infections can result in sepsis or blood poisoning and death for humans and animals. Other serious outcomes could are loss of fingers, toes, or limbs, and even organ failure if treatment is delayed. Better safe by getting immediate medical treatment than sorry.

What causes an infection on a cat's paw?

Mostly cuts. We had some infection problems before, they are mostly get infected with a little cut. If your cat goes outside it is very easy to get an infection. We had an outsider cat in our farm. We named him “Sarı” meaning yellow in Turkish. He came to the farm and started to living with our cats. He was the most survival cat I have ever seen. His immunity system was perfect. No matter what type of injury he had he was surviving. We couldn’t treat him neither get close because he was very wild and aggressive. All of our animals rabies vaccine was complete so he was not a threat for anyone. Once he had cut his paw through the bone, I could see his bones under the infected skin. I managed to spray his paw with an antisepcit but it was just one time, normally a cat needs antibiotics treatment and every day good care for that kind of injury. He was surviving every deadly wound.

Why won't my cat's paw infection heal up?

My 12 year cat has a paw infection for the past 2 months almost. He somehow managed to cut open his little paw pad on the lateral side underneath and it grew pussy and infected. He was given an antibiotic shot which didn't work. Then he was back at the vet who prescribed Baytril and Clavamox for 2 weeks while I cleaned his paw with some purple antiseptic twice a day. He's wearing a collar so he can't lick it either. But it scabs up a bit and then I clean it and it remains raw? Did the vet miss something? Am I doing something wrong? Thanks for any advice.
