My Cats Paw Is Swollen Help

My cats paw is swollen after IV, what do I do?

My cat had surgery the other day, and since then (it's been a day and a half), his paw has been swollen to twice its size. Is this something I need to worry about? Can i take the tape that the Vet put around his leg off? He is going back at the end of the week, so will he be okay until then, or should I immediately take him back to the vet?

Help! Cat's paw is VERY SWOLLEN.?

Please phone the vet in question. I have to say, it is crap when vets don't bandage cats paws in - the pressure MUST be the same on the entire leg when a bandage is applied to a cat, or this is what happens.

She has not lost circulation to her leg, don't worry. Fluid has pooled under the skin causing the swelling, it will disperse. You did the right thing by removing the bandage. You can massage the paw if she'll let you, though it doesn't sound like she will! The swelling will go down within around 48 hours.

Call the vet and tell them what happened. Also ask them why they didn't bandage the paw in - I don't know why some vets still do this, I've known some fab vets that do it, they just seem to be in complete denial that it happens, but it does!! I wouldn't blame you if you wanted to go to a different vet to complete her treatment, but do let this vet know what happened.

HELP!!!!! My cat has a swollen foot from a bandage!!!!!?

Just to be clear - the swelling is on the front foot that had the IV in it and not the fractured leg - right? Did they give you directions to take the bandage off when you got home? I hope so. The bandage should be off the leg now and there should be nothing still in the leg such as the catheter. Please update to verify and let me know. Thanks!

The swelling should go down in time; you can gently message the leg to help it. If the swelling does not go down in a couple hours please call the vet back.

Edit - thanks for the quick reply. When the IV catheter is taken out the site sometimes bleeds a little and the bandage is put on a little snug to make sure any bleeding stops. The bandage usually is taken off within 10 minutes or so and is fine. Since it was on longer than that then it is going to take a little more time to go down completely. I am glad to hear that it is going down. Continue with light massage and if not completely better in an hour or two call the vet back. It should be okay.
I hope your kitty does fine with his leg and feels better soon.

Why would my cats paw be swollen after having an IV?

the veins in a cats paw are tiny. and easy to miss with the IV. some times the vet will stick in the IV. think they have it in and start the fluids. but it goes into the surrounding areas instead. so they have to pull it and try again.

so the paw is probably swollen from a bad IV stick. just fluid sitting there. it might take a few days for the body to absorb it all. it should be slightly sore but not overly painful. don't worry about it. but the vet should have said something about it at discharge.

thank you for being a responsible pet owner.

My cat's paw is swollen! please help it is an emergency!!!?

Carefully check the whole paw. Look for a sore . When you find it soak the spot in warm water and remove the scab. Cats are known for having sores heal over the infection trapping it inside. Have help doing this because he won't like it but when you remove the scab if pus runs out you will have to manually drain it. Removing the pus speeds healing. Put some antibiotic ointment on the sore and hold him for 20 minutes this will give it time to work. Then wipe off the excess so he doesn't eat it. If it was broke it would swell but unless the skin is broken it usually does not get infected. Red means infected from a outside source. Find the source a wound or a splinter of some kind and treat it.
