If all else fails have windows perform a repair on your wireless connection. you can do this from the control panel

Windows XP can't connect to wireless network.?

Here's two possibilities:
1. Your ESSID is the same as a neighbors, confusing the laptop
2. Your laptop has been told your network is encrypted

Why cant I connect to my wireless network with my laptop?

Hey.
First step, check your wireless network (wifi) card is properly installed. Go to your Device Manager (on ctrl panel) and check it's not got any error messages. Check the drivers are installed, and if not, install them.
Remember to switch your machine off and back on again after messing with settings to give your pc a chance to start over. XP shouldn't need this, but sometimes it helps.

If this still doesn't work, it would be useful to check the wifi card actually works. Is there a different slot you could put it in? If not, is there a different laptop you could try it in?

Use Microsoft's connection manager to try and search for wireless networks. If your pc still can't see any, check if your wifi card is supposed to have an external arial attached, and if it's not there, you won't be able to connect. Most laptop cards don't have one, though.

If you still can't see the networks at all, your card is probably dead. They're not expensive to replace on ebay these days, but if you're using a Dell laptop, check that the port you're using is really a PCMCIA port, as some of their laptops come with a port that only takes Dell hardware. If in doubt, go with a USB one instead.

I cannot set-up a wireless connection on my HP Laptop?

My internet provider is Time Warner Cable in New York City. I am trying to set up my laptop so it can be Wireless. I satisfactorily hooked up my LINKSYS Wireless-G 2.4GHz Broadband Router. All connections are correct...BUT for some reason my wireless network connection never works. When I attempt to Repair the Wireless Network Connection I always get this message :"Windows cannot renew my IP Address". In fact, as it keeps attempting to acquire a network address, it always indicates "invalid IP address" and it indicates nothing but zeros as the IP address. I called Time Warner Cable and all the technician could tell me to do was turn off my modem and router and Laptop, wait one minute, turn it back on, etc. etc. That does nothing of course. For some reason the wireless router cannot accept my IP Address? Can anyone help me with this? Thank you.

If a computer is connected to a network/internet by both ethernet (LAN) and wifi, will that cause any problems?

There should be no problem. A computer can have any number of network interfaces. Windows will automatically identify which can be used to access internet and how fast and reliable are the connections (speed, latency, packet drops…) and assign a metric to that connection. If some packets can be routed through multiple connections then the connection with lower metric will have higher priority. For information on how the metric is assigned see An explanation of the Automatic Metric feature for IPv4 routesIf you want you can also assign a metric manuallySetting network adapter metric priority in Windows 7How to give preference over one network connection over another? How to Change the Priority of Wired/Wireless Network Cards in WindowsHowever sometimes Windows will disconnect wifi if the computer was connected to ethernet. In this case just connect to the wifi manually once again then later it’ll automatically be connected without user intervention any more.Nevertheless there may be some cases that both connects to different networks that use the same IP range and cause a conflict. In this case you might need to change the address range of one network and it’ll be fineHere’s the result on my computer. As you can see I’m connecting to both ethernet and wifi, both have internet connection, and both belongs to different networksOnce it’s done, speed and reliability are often improved. That said, this isn’t a magic way to increase your internet speed if you really have two separate connections (like from 2 ISPs). The solution is to use Load balancing, but even in that case the speed to a single server might not increase, because connection can only go through one line

Why can't I connect to my 5GHz WiFi network?

To be honest this is a very vague question with a lot of different potential reasons for failure, but ill do my best to provide some different solutions to common scenarios I’ve run across. I will start with some “Duh” answers and move progressively more towards “Ah-ha”s.Turn off and turn on the Wifi of the device you are trying to connectRestart the deviceRestart the modem/routerLog in as the administrator of the router and make sure you have the right WiFi passwordIf it is your network you can even try changing it temporarily to a more simple password, one you just “couldn’t possibly mess up” and testing to ensure that that isnt the cause. If some devices can connect, but others cant then depending on the age of the device you are using it could be a capability issue. In the network world 5GHz Wifi is known as (802.11ac). This was developed in 2008 but was not widely adopted in phones/laptops/wireless dongles until 2013 (-ish). You may be using a device who’s WiFi card cannot pickup and read those 5G signals. (As a professional, if I were to guess, this is your issue.)Honorable, but unlikely Mentions: (DO NOT attempt to troubleshoot these issues yourself unless you have a strong understanding of networking)Check and make sure that the Password Security type (WPA, TKIP, WPA2/AES, Personal…etc) matches on both the router and the device.Check and make sure the DHCP pool isn’t fullHope this helps,JL Cox

My college WiFi has certain restrictions. One cannot connect their phone with the college open WiFi network (even it has no password protection but it doesn't connect to the phone), only laptops. For this we have to register our laptop's IP or proxy. Is there any way to bypass such restrictions?

Hii..... may i bypass this restrictions by using victims ip address... this is one of the social engineering hacks....by the way you can try the following steps.STEP1 :-If you know your staffs or another person laptop ip address that can already register for wifi internet. to know the ip address of any laptop you can use this following method. In Windows, WIN+R ---> CMD --- click okthen type  IPCONFIG ---> you must see the ipv4 addreass and default gate way address... note thes two addresses.....then Use you laptop on windows operating system, go to  --> Control Panel\Network and Internet\Network Connectionsthen select you wireless interface and right click it to go PROPERTIES... then double click INTERNET PROTOCAL VERSION4 and use your victimes ip and default gateway addresses..... and finally your device connect to the your college wifi with your victimes ip address.....user proxy sites for illegal or ilLEGAL surfing..... bye ta ta.... for any queries, mail me. rajuraju2544 at google account.
