My Computer Wont Play Coronation Street On Demand

The last time I taught, high-tech devices weren't an issue.  Today, I would ban their use.  Using any of these devices while in a classroom to learn from a teacher or professor represents behavior toward that teacher or professor that is rude and disrespectful.Users of these devices pride themselves on being able to "multi-task."  However, a study of students at Stanford University has proven that it isn't possible to multi-task with any degree of quality.  Every task suffers, and none of the tasks is performed with excellence.NOTE:  For a review of Stanford study, see: Page on standord.edu.  Also see author Travis Bradberry's article in Forbes on the study:  Page on forbes.comIf students don't give the instructor their full attention, they aren't going to learn a thing.  Besides, it's unlikely any of them can type fast enough to make using the device for note-taking a worthwhile endeavor, and, even if they could, other aspects of these devices are distracting enough to interfere with the process of listening and taking notes of the most important information.  Note-taking isn't just about recording all that's said; it's about discerning which aspects of what's said should be in one's notes.  If they enter college after having used laptops in high school, their brains have probably never developed the ability to make those distinctions.Someone suggested on another site that, since all knowledge was on the Internet, students don't need a lot of knowledge.  But, the Internet is often wrong and, in other instances, information is missing.  Without a strong foundation of knowledge, students won't be able to discern which search produced questionable results nor know what to look for beyond the most basic concepts.

Is anyone else disappointed in music today?

I agree. A lot of music today just doesn't do anything for me. If I listen to music on my computer it is usually classical, 40's Big Band, 50's music or the music of the 70's. On the weekend there are two radio stations that play 80's & 90's music and I will listen to that if I'm driving. There are just a few pop songs out right now that I like and I think have good lyrics and a good message. One of those is the song Pretty Pretty Please by Pink. If you haven't listened to the words of that one, I would suggest that you do.

One type of music that I have HATED since the first time I heard it, and I still cringe when I hear it, is RapCrap. I will not let that crap play on my radio for more than 2 seconds and if anyone is in my vehicle and wants to hear it I tell them hell no...not in my car! I actually do not think it is "music"...it's just noise...it's just chanting what is usually stupid or hateful or disrespectful words to the same monotonous drum beat and the same 4 bars of "music". I hate everything RapCrap represents...the clothes, the lifestyle, the 'gangsta' mentality, the crotch grabbing, the arm up in the air and pumping the hand up and down, the pants hanging below their butts with their underwear showing and I could go on & on. Too many people listen to it because they think it makes them 'cool' or 'hip' and it's the 'in' thing to do. I have a couple of friends in their late 30's and mid 40's that listen to it because they want to be young again and I either leave when it's playing or ask them to please turn it down or change the song. Well anyway...rant over. LOL. A long winded answer, but That's my opinion about today's music.

Torchwood: was that the final episode?

i develop into truly beginning as much as love Owen and that i kinda enjoyed the entire "lifeless guy" project -- he and Jack have been in actuality opposites in that understand, it develop into exciting (yet i assume it may no longer circulate on continuously.) I have not got any thought why they killed Tosh -- yet a minimum of "it develop into outstanding." :) They gave her a stable write out. i could heard that there were some talk of paring down the forged, yet i can not see Torchwood working w/ purely 3 people and that i think of John Hart (James Masters) could be a catastrophe as a permenant member... an occasional concentrated visitor sure, yet no longer an entire member... i've got heard talk of bringing in Mickey (Rose's boyfriend), even nevertheless he's caught in a parallel universe... nonetheless if Rose comes back... i'd desire to work out it maybe, if he's grown up slightly. as long as they stick w/ the Jack / Ianto courting, i'm going to be happy... i are transforming into truly linked to those 2.
