Why is my laptop screen half black? How can I fix it?

ALL of these people are correct.  I work for Dell as a field technician.  It’s already been said, but I’ll repeat it for emphasis:First, hook up an external monitor.  If the display is good, then the graphics chip is fine… and that’s probably good news, because on most (not all) laptops, you’d have to replace the motherboard, which will not be cheap.  If a motherboard needs replacing, expect to spend $100 plus labor, unless the laptop is an extremely common model (such as the Dell Latitude D500 series, which was purchased by a lot of schools). However, something which has not been said, is that it doesn’t necessarily mean that the motherboard is good.  There is a ribbon cable that connects the LCD to a connector on the motherboard.  It is possible for the connector itself to fail.  In 15 years of working for Dell, I’ve seen it happen once.  Though if it fails, usually nothing displays at all.In any case, if everything shows up on the external monitor, the most likely culprit is that either the LCD has cracked, or the ribbon cable has failed.  A specialist might have a replacement LCD on hand, or at least one that he can use temporarily to determine if the cable is bad.

In Ubuntu on Virtualbox, the screen is blank after sign-in. There are no icons, no status bar, and only the wallpaper is visible. How do I solve this?

1. Is it an old box?2. Do you have SSH access to it?If yes, try to load nautilus again. From SSH3. Is it a new box? If yes, while booting up try to boot in the recovery mode and see if anything changes.4. Have you installed virtualbox guest additions? If not, trying installing them.5. Lastly Disable 3D Accelaration in VirtualBox and load the OS again. See if that helps.

My iPhone 7 plus bottom bar changes color for a second every time I open specific apps. How can I fix this and is it a faulty iPhone?

Hi, I don't think that your iPhone 7 Plus is faulty. This is a feature which was introduced in iOS 7. With the iOS 7, the glassy dock was chucked out for a more translucent background that picked colors off the wallpaper. You can remove the sometimes garish hyper color look of the iOS Dock that comes from using certain wallpapers and replace it with a muted gray. Something like this:To change your dock color to muted gray, follow these steps:Go to Settings > General on your iPhone 7 PlusTap on AccessibilityScroll down and tap on Increase ContractTurn on the switch for Reduce TransparencyClose the setting and now you should see a dock with gray background that doesn't change with the wallpaper color or the apps background color. Dock of your iPhone 7 is not changing probably because this “Reduce Transparency” option is already enabled on your iPhone 7. I hope this will help you.
