My Dog Got Attacked By A Pitbull

My dog got attacked can I sue?

You can sue her for your veterinary bills in Small Claims Court. Don't worry about the fate of her dog; you are suing to recover money damages that her dog caused you, not to punish her dog.

Somebody knows where this woman lives, and her neighbors know who she is. You can look up who owns the house, and then you know either the woman's name or her landlord's name. I'm sure the landlord would be interested in knowing that her tenant had a vicious dog.

Small Claims Court should have a staff that will help you fill out the paperwork, or you could go to a local law school or other self-help clinic.

Edit: If she doesn't pay up before you go to the judge, bring witnesses whose dogs were also attacked. Establishing that she knew her dog had a propensity to attack will really bolster your case.

My dog was attacked by a pit bull. What should I do?

OMG. Well Firest I want to say I Hope your Dog is Okay and Depending on the Circumstances (not to say it was your Dogs fault) But if your Dog was not on a leash and the Pit bull was? It would favor on the pit bull side but if the Pitbull attacked and it was loose then I would first get all information of Pitbull find out if it was reported before and if the Pitbull was insured? I know that sounds funny but responsable pit bull owner do get Insurance to cover them and thier Dog Because unfortunately depending on which state you live they will automatically put the Pitbull down and I feel it’s up to the owners to know thier Pit Bull Personally and not all Pit Bulls are Aggesive and Attack but again if both parties take responsibility and try to solve the problem then maybe We don’t have to have a Pit Bull put down and the Owner of Pit Bull pays for any Veterinary Medical Bills That Maybe you accumulate. I Hope All is Well with this Unfortunate Circumstance

My neighbor's Pit Bull attacked my dog?

When I returned home from work yesterday,I took my dog out for a walk. He is a 10 lb rat terrier. He wasn't on a leash because he is always by my side. Our neighbor was outside with his 3 dogs. My dog and I were about 100(if not more) yards away from their property. All of a sudden, all three dogs started barking and the Pit Bull jumped the fence. This was the first time something like this has ever happened to me. I went to grab my dog,but as scared as he was, he took of running in the opposite direction, and the Pit Bull caught him around the neck and was shaking him around like a rag doll. This didn't even happen on my property because my dog was so scared he ran two houses down.

I went to get the Pit Bull off of my dog,and the owner tells me not to touch him. I'm assuming he didn't want me to get bit,and he eventually gets my dog out by prying the Pit Bulls mouth with a pipe. My dog was still alive, but was bleeding profusely. My wife heard all this and called the cops. I took my dog to the emergency vet clinic but there was nothing they could do,so I put him down.

I returned home to find out that the owner got a citation, but still had the dog. I called him last night and asked him to come over tonight so we can discuss what's going to happen next. He didnt seem to thrilled about it..and never once said he was sorry.

What things should I bring up? Should I ask him to get rid of his dog ? Should I take him to court? I'm afraid he's going to try to put the blame on me,for not having my dog on a leash.

Thanks for the help

Have you ever been attacked by a pit bull and what happened?

You see this cute little dog? He’s 8 pounds with huge ears. Ain’t he just adorable? He’s about 10 years old. He had been abused his entire life before I got him 2 months ago. I’m trying to save his life and rehabilitate him. I have acres upon acres of grass but he pees and poos on the concrete - likely because he was stuck in a concrete floor basement or garage.I have scars on my arms and hands from him biting me. He sleeps in my bed and I awoke one night with his jaws on my thumb. Evidently I pushed him away and he didn’t like it so he bit me. I’ve had dogs for 40 years and never had that happen. His record is 8 days between bites - right now we’re on day 3.He’s the meanest dog I’ve ever owned - and I’ve owned pit bulls. Without warning he will lunge and bite - and it’s suddenly a fight to the death for him. I’ve had pit bulls get into a scrap with another dog, but they weren’t trained killers or mentally damaged the way this little guy is. Most dogs will give a warning sign - either a growl, a head hung low or tail straight out. An abused dog will flip out without warning. My point? It’s not the breed it’s the individual dog.If he was a pit bull he would be deadly, but the best he can do is tear up my arms and hands. This is why animal abuse must be taken seriously and abusers punished. The owners should be punished - not the dogs.

If you ever got attacked by a pit bull how do you kill it or at least get it off of you?

When I was 5, I was bitten by a chihuahua. It wasn't after me at first, but I was afraid of it. (It was getting out often, & my sisters had called it a 'Bad Dog!' on numerous occasions ... & I'd thought the worst!) I was walking home from school w/ another student -- who knew Not to run -- but I 'took off'. It nailed me in the ankle a few houses from home (didn't even notice my friend).
I've never been attacked since then, but now a neighbor down the street has a pit bull & always leaves their gate open. When we've walked by, it comes out & acts like it wants to get us (growls,barks,follows)... we carry a big, heavy stick (just in case), & a water/spray bottle. We don't run! I keep the spray bottle full, & set to 'stream', which it shoots 20' out. So far, I've only needed to turn around, walk backwards (behind the others), & spray the dog in it's face. Dogs don't like the surprize &/or sound of it. It sounds something like a cat hissing ... & maybe they perceive it something like when one dog urinates on another (a very dominant gesture).
To run is to transform oneself into prey in the dog's mind ... A dog that would otherwise leave one alone, may be irrisistably attracted by >either-or-both< your fear & your prey-behavior (running). ... I've thought of using mace, but that can sure backfire if the wind is blowing in the wrong direction! You'd have to be able to manuever the situation so that the dog is Definately Downwind, for it to be effective & not blow back on you! They Really Don't Like capsaicin/cayenne pepper At All! Highly Irritating to such sensitive noses & eyes!
Wouldn't it be nice if Every animal-owner was Responsible! To that end, I love to share certain articles that cover God's view of responsible pet ownership & the futur ... Maybe you'd like to read them too:

I ALMOST GOT ATTACK BY A PIT BULL?

No.

If he actually touched you, he could have easily bitten you. He didn't want to. Maybe he was reacting to your fear? Some dogs do. Mine didn't, but I noticed that some people were very uneasy around him.

I probably won't get another Pit Bull, but mostly because some breeds are MUCH more trainable. Mine never got in a fight. He was viciously attacked by another dog in the park. I made the commitment, when I selected the breed AS GOOD OWNERS MUST, that he was not allowed unless one of us was in serious danger. I grabbed his collar with both hands and pulled his head down to the ground, so he couldn't fight. It was the hardest thing I've ever done in my life, but it was RIGHT. He would have fought that dog. It would have been correct assessment by him, but not by me. That dog deserved a good ************ but not a severe injury. My dog was also slapped around hard by a street cat, once, while I was walking him. I raised him with two cats. He was fine with all of them, and that time he just cried and ran to me. It's normal for them to be even more loving than most dogs to people, most of the time.

There are a lot of documented attacks, though. I think the reason for the spike is that bad people love Pit Bulls because of their notoriety, and the undeniable physical capability. Bad owners raise bad dogs. Keep that in mind! When I see a Pit Bull, I go in cautiously. I don't claim to be an expert, but I'm sure I know more about them than the average American.

My pitbull attacked and killed my cat. Do I need to worry about my kids?

It shouldn't come as a surprise when a Terrier or any other type of dog specifically bred to have a high prey drive kills another animal no matter if it previously lived with it. You take a gamble with cats and other pets when you bring in a dog that was bred for prey drive.

That's like being surprised over a Border Collie wanting to herd or a Beagle wanting to follow its nose. Animal aggression doesnt equal human aggression either.

High percentage of bites and attacks on kids do not happen out of the blue. Too many parents allow their kids to aggravate, rough handle, and bully dogs expecting an ANIMAL to put up with such nonsense while the parents ignore all signs the dog is feeling extremely stressed and uncomfortable being treated in such a way. An ANIMAL will only tolerate so much before it deals with the kid instead.

Getting the opinion of a good canine behviouriist who can evaluate the dog would be great but since you yourself said you don't trust the dog it would be wise to surrender to Pit Bull Rescue .No good on the dog to be in a place where it will sense tension, distrust, and fear towards it. It does not need to be put down eitger just because it killed a cat. In the future if you wish to pair dogs and cats together then do the research and go for a dog that wasn't bred to kill animals. Otherwise you're back to playing Russian roulette with the cats life.
