My Dog Had Her Insides Fall Out After Stitches Were Removed By The Vet Are They At Fault

What happens if you don't have your dog's stitches removed?

My mom's dog had to have several stitches after getting into a fight w/another dog and b/c it cost her so much for the visit she couldn't afford to bring the dog back to have stitches removed. Will it be harmful to the dog to leave them in? They are not the dissolvable type, but I imagine after awhile they will just loosen and fall out on their own. Will they?

What happens if a dogs stitches aren't removed after they were spaded? what would the vet do? ?

it depends on the sutures used ... my dog is 12 years old and i can still feel the sutures from her spay ... the vets have made no comment about it because some sutures are like that ...

Dogs stitches falling out?

My dog broke her leg on June 10th, had a metal plate put in for the surgery and got stitches. The vet said it would take 6 weeks to heal and she would remove the stitches when we took her back in six weeks. Its been 3 weeks now and the stitches are starting to either fall out of dissolve. I was not told they were dissolving stitches and the stitches are black so I do not think they are dissolving. Also the places the stitches are falling out is where the skin is completely together and healed. She is a puppy that is almost 6 months old so the vet did say puppies usually heal the quickest and in between 4-6 weeks the stitches should be healed. Is this normal for the stitches to just fall out? If they all fall out should I even bring my puppy back to the vet after the 6 weeks? Thanks for the help!

My dog had her insides fall out after stitches were removed by the vet are they at fault?

My female dog had a C section 13 days ago and of which she was to come back at 10 days for her stitches to be removed of which we did. When we took her in to the vets office they took her back to remove the stitches. They had her in the back for 3-5 minutes and brought her back out. The vet told us that she had a discharge from the incision and to keep giving her antibiotics. Well soon as he said that her insides fell to the floor. She started to bite at the air screaming so my first reaction was to grab her to hold her still. I was bitten a few times on my arm but I would rather get bit then have her step on her insides. She actually did step on her intestines causing the vet to remove about 5 inches . They rushed her to the back and began reconstructive surgery. She spent two nights in the vets as I had them keep her of which after 24 they wanted her to come home. I thought too soon so I made them keep her. She now is here at home as we picked her up today. I have her in her kennel on a bed with a cone on her head watching her every second. I will probably sleep next to her on the floor. She is to heal for 2 weeks now so i'm hoping she does great. My nerves have been shot. I have no been able to eat and have been sick to my stomach and cannot sleep. Only to sleep a few hours to have nightmares of this I witnessed and am afraid it can happen again. The vet said her two layers of sutures did not hold inside of her so when she got up her skin broke open. Do you think this vet should pay? That they were in the wrong? Let me know I would like to hear some opinions. And no not the ones that say well you shouldn't have bred your dog. Because you know what yes I bred my female once and that was only going to be that once of which the puppies were spoken for to pet homes only as they are a different looking type of dog. I never thought this would or could happen and other vets I have called couldn't believe this did happen. So please I want opinions on what I asked not about you shouldn't breed... Thank you

What do you do if one of your dog’s stitches has come undone?

It would depend when they were put in. At my hospital, the drs said, 10–14 days, then we would remove them. So, the incision might be healed or close to it, already, in which case it isn’t an issue. If, however, this is soon after surgery, once suture might not be a problem if there is not a big gap and the other sutures are holding. but the bigger question would be, WHY did it come undone? If the dog is licking or chewing at the incision, then you need to get an Elizabethan collar—(The Cone of Shame) —-to prevent him from getting out anymore sutures. If you are concerned, then you should take him back to the vet to check the incision. There usually isn’t a charge for that if there isn’t any more procedures done or medicines dispensed. They will charge for the collar, though.

What happens when you don't remove your dogs stitches,???

We had our dog fixed god knows how long ago and his stitches are still in him and his skin has grown over the stitches. I have constantly told my mom to get them out because they may get infected and it's just plain inhumane, she always says the dissolved or we don't have the time and it pisses me off. Is there anything else that can happen to him? And no I can't take him to the vet myself I'm 14

Does anyone know how a vet does internal stitches after surgery?

What it means is that the veterinarian used a suture material that will disolve and be absorbed by the body over a matter of days or weeks and that the suture pattern used doesn't involve running the sutures completely through the skin. Rather the sutures are attached in the layers of the skin not exposed to the outside world and the skin is pulled together and the suture is tied off in such a manner that only the tag end of the suture material is pulled up between the edges of the incision and then it is cut and the tag end of the suture is pushed back down below the level of the skin in between the two edges of the surgical incision.

Think of it like sewing up a rent in a piece of material where you don't want stitches showing so you run your needle though the lower layers of the material just enough to grab but not to show up through the top of the material.

To see a video (not using a live animal) of how these sutures are placed, you can follow this link:

Dog intestines falling out?

I purchase new puppy from website some weeks ago and now he is arrived. I like him very much as he has much puff to him. After ball with him some days ago I notice there was a fault in his persona. When he turn around my dof has hole in his back, right above his penis. I don't know why it is and how long it been there and I purchase dog from America so I thought it might happened on trip here. The holl become clogged very fast, because after time bad smell stuff is pushing out and I think it make dog uncomfortable becuase his legs were like he was unhappy and he did not look smiling. The first times it happen I pay no attention because maybe it just happen once but earlier I see it happen again with long sausage stuff that smells bad pushing out and dog looked sad. We have no dog doctors here but I think it might be his intestines falling out on accident so I have been pushing the foul sausage back in every time it comes out, but dog still looks uncomfortable and more intestines come out each time. I like dog very much how do I save dog?

Dog Stitches Still in Body Years After Surgery?

Hi my dog has never had proper care because every vet we go to the next one finds something the first should have never over looked. My dog was spayed years ago and "dissolving" stitches were supposedly used. I have always felt lumpiness where the surgery was and assumed it was normal because the vet never was concerned about it. I've had my dog since I was young and now that I'm an adult and living on my own I'm taking her to different vets having old concerns looked at that my parents could never afford to have looked into. One vet took great notice in the area of her stomach where she was spayed and said it was herniated but it was not in any kind of danger of causing any problem. My dog was having stomach problems last night so today I was massaging her stomach and as I went over her surgery spot I started to really feel it and I think I can feel stitches and I think I found the place where they were tied off and then the top of the tied off stitches caught her skin inside and she ran away from me. Am I crazy here or did that stupid vet years ago leave non-dissolving stitches in my dog by mistake? If so what does this mean for her, she has a heart murmur and is not cleared to have surgery with her hearts condition so they couldn't be removed now, what does this mean for her? If there really are wire stitches in her should/can I sue that vet
