My Dog Has A Bad Rash All Over His Skin He Constantly Chew On His Skin And Scratch Til His Skin

Boston Terrier constantly scratches, skin very broken out with rash.?

The itching is probably worse during tree pollen time. This is very common with pedigree dogs because the inbreeding it took to get them a certain way broke down some of their natural workings.

You can give your dog a benadryl. It sounds like it should be about the weight of a 10 year old child so use child doses. This will give your dog a great deal of relief.

You might want to bathe it in anti itch shampoos once a week during high pollen times. You can go to the weather channel online and check the pollen count to see if it is trees, grass, or food pollens that bother it the most.

If you find it is in trouble year round, you might want to get a mold kit from Menards and test your house. Many homes have molds and the owners don't even know! I tested my house and found 5 different types in the test dish.

We removed the carpets, sealed the floors, laid new mold resistant padding and then laminate flooring. We used Kilz paint in the whole house and used TSP on the walls and floors before painting. We also added mold retardant to the final paint. I made sure our gutters are cleaned four times a year (we live in the woods) and we releveled the yard to make sure water goes away from the house.

Still, with the matteress in an allergy bag and no curtains, only blinds, I have some troubles with allergies but nothing like it was.

Now, its only when the tree pollen is high that I have trouble. But, if I walk into a house with mold, I get an instant migrain.

I hope this info helps. I am surprised the vet didn't put your pet on hydrocortazone shots and benadryl pills.

My dog scratches herself until she bleeds!?

My dog continually scratches herself leaving rashes, sores, and bloody cuts. She's been to the vet a million times now. She has allergies constantly. We've changed her food to a special hypoallergenic diet, shes had antibiotics, has special shampoo in which shes bathed regularly, she's had antihistamines, steroids, everything under the sun. My dog has more medication the the pharmacy.
I'm committed to taking care of her allergies and doing what she needs but my concern is her constant scratching of her neck, armpits, and face. She is tearing up her skin, leaving wounds and bald spots. What can i do to prevent her form harming herself? I've seen those things called soft paws but is there any other options?

My dog has bumps on his skin and won't quit biting and scratching. What could be the problem?

It sounds as if your dog has bug bites or has an allergy. Some dogs are actually allergic to flea bites and will develop a bumpy rash from the bites. You also run the risk of areas becoming infected from all the scratching and licking.I would begin by taking your dog to the vet for evaluation. Flea bites are easily taken care of with topical preventative. Allergies can be a bit more complicated as you need to figure out what to treat it with. I have a dog that is allergic to some type of tree pollen and takes Benadryl a couple months out of the year.In any case it sounds like your poor dog is pretty uncomfortable. It shouldn't be too dificult to remedy.

Can a stray puppy dog’s scratch cause rabies if the skin is slightly broken?

No.Rabies is a 100% fatal disease. But to get rabies from a dog one of the following should happen:You need to be bitten by a rabid dog (Dog that’s affected by Rabies)ORA rabid dog must lick your skin that’s broken. In other words, the dog’s saliva must enter your blood stream. (Licking the skin that’s healthy will not allow the saliva to go into your blood stream.)A scratch from a dog’s nail will NOT lead to rabies unless that dog is rabid and has licked its nail prior to scratching you.Nevertheless, scratches mean that foreign particles and parasites have entered your body and you are required to take a TT (Tetanus vaccine). Also know that a rabid animal will die soon (2 to 10 days max). So if the puppy is still alive after 10 days, its not rabid :-) People generally don’t take any chance nowadays and after any animal bite, doctors will recommend a full dose of anti-rabies vaccine. Don’t even think about escape from taking this vaccine.Rabies is one of the worst diseases that’s fully fatal. What happens to the human body after infection is totally disturbing. Don’t look it up if you have a faint heart.*Image from Online directory of medicines wiki

Why does my dog scratch so much?

You should have your pet checked out. We can't see your dog, or accurately diagnose the problem. You'll have to look carefully. Don't forget to check in the ears or under the ear flaps. The arm and leg pits are also 'hot' areas where infestations  and irritations are found. If your dog is severely infested, you could see fleas jumping on his coat.Otherwise, he'll just be shaking his head more, be restless, as well as licking a lot. Look for little black dots in his coat, on the skin.Mange is a disease dogs get that is intensely itchy. Mites burrow into the skin. The skin becomes thickened, hot, red and inflamed. Bleeding is not uncommon. The dog will lose hair where the mange is located. Many breeds are sensitive to their food, and that sensitivity shows up in skin irritation. This is more common with cheap kibble. You have to change out the food. Get this looked at, sooner than later. These issues don't resolve on their own, and generally progress.

Can't stop my basset hound from scratching 24/7 any help out there?

Has he got fleas? Allergies to grain in dogfoods are another leading cause of skin issues. Also dogfoods that are poor nutritionally (equivalent to feeding junk food) are another reason. Check the rank of your current dogfood against the ones rated highest and you may have the answer to your dog's problem.

If you are already keeping him free of fleas, and he's eating good nutritious food, he may have mange. There's a natural treatment for that I've used that works.

MicroTek Shampoo is the best I've ever used for clearing up itching and scratching on a dog.

Help, dog has foul body odor, scratching excessively, chewing, what to do?!?

So recently my dog has gotten fleas from an outdoor cat that comes by my house and eats cat food. I've washed him with flea shampoo, did flea dip, used advantix on him, shampooed him with regular dog shampoo, and he still smells very terrible! The odor seems to be coming from his body and is so strong I can smell it from the other room, even after he has left the room it still smells where he sat. Smell lingers when he walks by. He usually sleeps under my bed and even though I have sprayed the area with febreeze and other things over and over, the stench is still there. The fleas seem to still be there because he is constantly scratching and chewing at his legs and back and such. I have also noticed that some small pieces of his hair have fallen out and are all over in different areas on my floor. I dont see any missing patches of hair on his body though. He started to smell badly when I noticed that my other cat(one that is indoor) was scratching and when he began scratching. I also bombed the house to get rid of fleas and washed the two cats, they seem to be fine. The dog is the only one still scratching. Does anyone know what to do? The smell is so bad i have to get him in the other room and close my bedroom door so he cant get in, just so i can sleep. The smell is so horrible! Please help!

Why does my dog keeps scratching his back?

*this is not professional veterinary advice, this is from personal experience with dogs with problem skin. As always, don't hesitate to bring him to the vet*First of all, is he scratching in a single spot on his back or is it all over his back?If he's scratching at a localized spot, (under nice bright light) take a look under his fur with your fingers. Look for any ticks in that spot, notice whether it feels warm to the touch, swollen, or abnormal looking/feeling. Also pay attention to how your dog reacts when you touch the spot; does he tense up, try to get away, or wimper? If he has any of the things I've describe, you should definitely take him to the vet.If his entire back is itchy, (again, under very good lighting) take a comb and brush the hair backward slowly to check for fleas or flea eggs. Carefully feel the skin and check for anything that requires immediate vet attention like hives (welts), pimple-y bumps, scabbing, sore raw spots, or any rashes. There may also be irritants that may have bothered his skin (such as burrs, sand, specks of dirt, etc.). Check for dandruff. Is the skin flaking off and white looking? or maybe he's dirty and his skin is irritated by the dirt and oils sitting on his skin. This is not my advice, but what I would personally do is check him over very well, and if (only if) he has dandruff, a few fleas, or dirty, then I would give him a nice bath WITH DOG SPECIFIC SHAMPOO (if it's fleas, use flea shampoo obviously.) Make sure the water is not too warm or it will dry his skin out. Use a dog shampoo with oatmeal or aloe, to soothe his skin. If he's still itching the next day, I would take him to the vet still.i hope this helped a bit.

Why could your dog be scratching after a flea treatment?

If it’s right after applying it, there are chances the dog is responding to the dying fleas which may get irritable and crawl around their coat more. Other possibilities are that the fleas are not actually being all killed if you are not also treating the environment. When I used to work for the vet, we used to sell bottles of Ovitrol to kill all life stages of fleas as the topical treatment only kill the adults ones. Here are some more troubleshooting tips: Why is my flea treatment not working.

Help with my dogs itchy skin?

I have a few different things that work for itch skin

One is oatmeal shampoo made for dogs, petsmart sells a product called hot spot that is great for itchy areas and you can also try fish oil . With fish oil it takes about 3 weeks to work. I used it on my dog in after the 3 weeks she was itch free.
