Should i take my dog to the vet for ticks?

my 8 month, almost 9, shih tzu mix has got a mild case of ticks! i say mild because i had a dog 17 years ago who was covered in big grey bumps! we took that dog a bath and treated the yard and from then on he would occasionally have 1 or 2 but we would pick them off and he was fine, he never got sick from them luckily he died of old age :(.

now i cant seem to get rid of them! the shampoo we used last time Zodiac for fleas and ticks does seem to work, and thi dog is an indoor dog! my mom kicked him out because she doesnt want the ticks in the house, i dont blame her, but my dog is not used to being outside so long, and hes getting more i think even after treating the yard! i checked thoroughly in the house, and found maybe 3 baby 1s, i fogged indoors to try ans see if i could get rid of any we missed, so i think its safe inside for him once he gets all the ones on him off.

if you're familiar with the breed they have long hair which makes them hard to see, i wanted to get it cut short to be more manageable for this, but i dont know if the groomers will work with him if he ha ticks...so that why im asking if the vet will get rid of them, they will give him meds, i know, but will they clean him up while there so i can take him to the groomers to get his hair cut?

and if so, how much will it roughly cost? im in college right now, just entering, dont have a job, and used most of my savings on tuition fees. i have been using the money i put away for books so far, i have about $100 left, and my mom cant afford to pay because he got sick earlier this year and the hospital bills were very high, plus she has other bills to pay. i really dont want my dog to be uncomfortable any longer, but if its super expensive i dont know what i'll do!

your advice is appreciated, please no mean responses, i feel a horrible enough owber as it is! T-T o! and i have yet to see the ticks fully engorged if that makes a difference....

Do I really have to worry about ticks on my dog?

Ticks on your dog is not ideal , and in some cases and countries it can lead to your dog's death.Ticks can infect your dog with blood parasites, like babesia canis, which can possibly kill your dog. It will also cost you a lot of money to get the proper treatment. Some ticks have very long mouthparts that can cause severe and necrotic wounds.Prevention is best by applying a spot on treatment or oral medication that has a long acting effect of preventing ticks on your dog for up to 3 months. If you find a tick on your dog, you can wipe it with methylated spirits and cut the back part off, and then the mouth part will fall out after a while.

I keep finding ticks on my dog?

1. make sure he has all his vaccines, including lepto. on your vaccination records from the vet you will see an L with his DPP (DLPP)
2. make sure your grass is cut short and the yard is tidy. ticks like to hide in long grass and brush.
3. speak with your vet first. but i have found if i add a *small* amount of garlic powder to his food once a day, this will make his blood toxic to pests and they will not want him. this works for fleas as well. make sure you speak with your vet though, as too much garlic can harm him more than help him.
4. have your yard sprayed for bugs
5. speak to your vet about other alternatives.

My dog brought in ticks into my bed, how do i get rid of them?

This has nothing to do with your sheets! You need to clean your whole room! This also mean vaccuming every nook and crany!
The dog has probably drops ticks in your room and your house. why on earth did you allow your dog to sleep with you knowing it was tick infested?

Just clean your room and keep a sharp look out in the house. If the dog is getting them from your yard than either call in someone to spray fro them or go and get something that will kill them. Just make sure you understand and read the lable as to when your dog can walk on the sprayed area!

My dog (Labrador) has fleas and tics. What shall I do?

Dilute 2-3 drops of your chosen oil in 1-3 tablespoons of water. Some  people use the oil undiluted, but I personally feel it should always be  diluted, even if it’s only by a little. Next, pick out a bandana to be  the flea collar-I think a bandana is preferable because you can take it  on and off and your dog’s collar won’t smell. It’s always fun to get  creative with patterns and colors here. If you go up to ½ teaspoon you  can use up to 5 drops of the liquid. Using an eyedropper or other  similar means, apply 5-10 drops of the mixture to the bandana and rub  the sides of the fabric together, and then tie it about your dog’s neck  in a snazzy way. Reapply oil mixture to the collar once a week. In  conjunction with this, 1 or 2 drops of oil diluted with at least 1  tablespoon of olive oil can be placed at the base of your dog’s tail.
