Worms after deworming?
Sounds like she's passing tapeworm proglottids. They present no danger to your or your children. The only way you can get them is to eat a flea, which I doubt that you'll do. ;-) Regular deworming protocols do not deworm for tapeworms, so I doubt that she's been treated. Dead adult worms do NOT generally come out after a proper deworming...they are normally digested/absorbed internally once they die. Every once in awhile, dead/dying roundworms *might* be passed 12-24 hrs after deworming. But none of that really matters. What matters is that you just got a new puppy. Regardless of when she's supposedly "due" for anything (since breeders often get that wrong), you need to take her in to YOUR veterinarian for a new puppy exam and fecal. You would be amazed how many puppies that have been 'dewormed' show presence of ALL of the types of worms on their fecal tests. That means they either were not dewormed at all, or were given an ineffective medication, or a good medication at an ineffective dose. Make sure you tell them about these worms (or take one with you in a baggy to show them), because tapeworms don't lay eggs the same way other worms do....hence they generally don't show up on routine fecal tests. You should get all new puppies/kittens/dogs/cats checked out by your DVM within 24-72 hrs, in order to prevent a lot of potential health headaches for yourself. Make sure you get her checked out as I said above. It's the worms you CAN'T see that can kill her.
Can dewormed dogs get worms again from another pup?
We have three dogs of varying ages. The oldest one is 7, the youngest is just over 1. Now we have a new pup (not from any of the old ones), and she hasn't been dewormed. Is it possible for the older dogs to get worms again? There isn't a nearby vet where we live, so consultation and meds are a bit hard to come by.So if you've heard of any herbal or home-grown ways to deworm pups, it would be much appreciated.
Why Does My Dog Have Worms Even After Being De-wormed?
Yes, you should deworm her again. It's perfectly healthy to deworm them every 6 months. Not only do they contract them from the mother's milk, but like someone stated before, they can also contract them from fleas as adults. You could use the same method and medication but you may need to up the dose as he/she is considered an adult by now.
My Cats Still Have Worms After Dewormer?
I took my two cats (a 9 month old orange DSH & 4 yr old grey DLH) to the vet, on February 20, for their checkup and because both had diarrhea. Both were found to have fleas and were diagnosed with tape worms by a fecal stool test. The vet recommended treating them with flea medication (which I applied Pet Amour, generic fipronil) & both cats were given a broad-spectrum de-wormer. Now 2 weeks later, my grey DLH still has diarrhea, so I went back to the vet yesterday & got a 2nd dose of de-wromer to give him & they gave him Metronidazole, an antibiotic & amoebacide. Then tonight, I observed that although my orange DSH is having solid stools, an adult tape worm (eww!) was attached. Then I checked him & saw a worm segment around his anus. Does mean the de-wormer didn't take in him either & I need to get a 2nd dose for him as well? I kinda feel sheepish, needing to make another trip, when I probably should of gotten a 2nd dose for the orange DSH as well yesterday :P Also, is there anything enviromentally (bedding, litterbox, etc) I need to be cleaning, in addition to treating the fleas, to ensure they aren't re-infested?
What should I expect after my dog has been dewormed?
I assume that deworming will kill the worms in the dog’s body. Naturally they have to come out in the poop so be prepared to see them. One word of advice is to ask the vet if a second follow up visit is recommended for a second deworming. It depends on the type of worms, amount of infestation and other factors. Better to safe than sorry. Call the vet if the dog exhibits “other” symptoms than those that are normal to the dog.
After giving my dog a dewormer she pooped out a HUGE WORM with little worms all over it?!?
Okay I got a puppy on Monday and she wasn't treated well and had roundworms, tapeworms, and fleas horribly. Now the person who had her before had given her, her first roundworm medicine (thank god) on 6/23/2010 and I am to give her, her next one on 7/7/2010. Well, we got rid of her fleas before they spread to my house (thank god) and went to the vet yesterday. The vet gave her the pill at about...5:15 or so (p.m.) for tapeworms. Last night at about 10:00 she was pooping in my bathroom (I had no clue, grrrr) and I heard her squealing and she flew into the living room running all over the house, rubbing her butt on the ground, just screaching super loud. We finally caught her and saw she had a probably 7 or 8 inch worm coming out of her butt with like little tapeworm things all over it... IS THIS NORMAL? It was disgusting. WELL THEN, I yell at my fiancee to go get a tissue to get it out of her butt and she reaches down and eats it!!!! IS THAT NORMAL? She hasn't pooped since and seems fine now. She's as happy as can be. Help?!

How long does it take to be normal again for dogs after deworming? It has already been 4 days but my dog is still not feeling well.
First I will ask - did you take your dog to the vet, have him/her tested, and get the appropriate treatment - or did you diagnose on your own, and buy an over-the-counter dewormer?And how old is your dog?If your dog is a puppy, it isn’t at all unusual to have several parasites, and the treatment is normally 2 doses of medication, about 2 weeks apart - to kill not just the adult worms, but all stages - and be sure that any eggs that were not killed the first time will be dealt with the second time.Adult dogs can get different kinds of worms from eating garbage, sniffing poop, being in dog parks (especially if there are muddy areas), sharing water…Taking a stool sample to the vet, and having them give the right medication, dose and frequency is the best way to go.But in any case, especially if your dog had a heavy load of parasites, it can take a couple of weeks. Tapeworms in dogs (and cats) come from fleas. Make sure you're treating flea infections as well as the tapeworms. I use Trifexis for my dog as this will prevent fleas and heart worms.I advise checking with your vet to find the most appropriate flea treatment for your dog along with the tapeworm treatment. Preventing heartworms is far easier than treating them, so I highly recommend getting that covered as well.
