Coughing up sticky mucus all day and all night?
i don't feel sick at all besides my cough. i cough all day and its hard to fall asleep because i have to cough so much. cough syrup seems to make it worse but hot tea seems to ease the coughing a little bit at night. i cough until i spit up little/medium size ball like chunks of extremly sticky white mucus then i wont have to cough for like 5-7 minutes then i have to cough again..this has been happening for 4 days.i was just wondering what it sounds like i have and if i should go to the doctors or if it should go away on its own?

i agree with the others regarding kennel cough if the dog has an elevated body temperature. if you don't have a thermometer look for shivering or short panting breaths between coughing episodes , place your bare hand under her front leg , if it feels warm/hot AND moist dial the vet a.s.a.p she may also have eaten/chewed something which may have passed through her but left a splinter or some other irritation in her throat. do'nt feed her just water and see if she improves

If he is wheezing, I would get him to a vet sooner. Yes, he might make it, but he very well might not. Breathing problems are not to be taken lightly. I would call you vet and tell him that the dog needs to be seen before Tuesday. If he cannot see you, I would find another vet, or an emergency vet. There are a lot of things that could cause it, from kennel cough to heart problems. Please get your dog checked out. Even relatively minor things like kennel cough can become something more serious if left untreated.

hi i have a 15 pound 6 year old dog. last night she started coughing and almost like she needed to spit something out, something stuck in her throat. My dad stuck his finger in her throat and she kindof reacted and coughed and was fine afterwards. Today she ate drank, used the bathroom, but then tonight SAME THING happened. she did not cough during the day. Is there something stuck in her throat? or could this just be a cough. She is like coughing then making like a throw up face but nothing comes out. She stopped now, should we take her to the vet now or wait till morning, will she be ok?
For me, I think the most important factor is that during the night I am lying down. Thus the little irritants, whether it be phlegm when I have a stuffy head, or something else -- aren't being pulled down my throat by gravity. They're just lying there until I cough them into a more comfortable spot.

I think that it might be kennel cough. The fact that he has not been kennelled with other dogs is irrelevant. It is highly infectious and he will have caught it from another dog. I hope that you can afford to go to the vets with him because it could be something else. In the UK people give their dogs a children cough medication to treat kennel cough, however using the wrong one could be dangerous. At the very least phone your vets and ask their advice on which children's medication that you can use. Honey will also sooth him. Coughs can also indicate heart problems, however I don't think that this would come on suddenly, or be so violent at the outset. Please try to take him to the vets. To stop him gulping his food, put a very large ball in his dish. The ball must be too big for him to pick up.

Sounds like Kennel Cough. This is very contageous so until you find out what's causing this (vet), keep him confined, and completely away from any other dogs. And that includes the vet's waiting room. Stay outside until he's ready to see you. This does need a vet to check as even if it's not KC, it could be some respiratory infection, which will need treating.
