My Dog Keeps Attacking People

How can I keep birds from attacking my dog?

First I would need to know the type of bird and circumstances behind the attack? Lets assume its a common wild bird attacking the dog. Likely your dog is too close to their nest and/or young, otherwise the birds would also be attacking you or anyone else that got to close. Of course many birds living in the city seem to be ok with humans but animals like dogs and cats are still predators to them. Birds have fledglings (babies learning to fly) all over Oregon right now and if a baby bird tries to fly too early they can fall from the nest and the parents will follow it, continue to feed it and try to protect it until it is able to fly out of harms way. So they will dive and attack your dog to get it way from the chick or the nest. It is possible there is a bird nest or a a fledgling close to where your dog is being attacked. Some adult birds will actually fake an injury in order to lure a predator away from their young. Now, if your dog is being attacked by an emu, goose or even a duck it could be the same thing, except Emu’s don’t fly and also likely the emu is just wanting the dog out of their area altogether.

Do Crows Attack People or Dogs?

Do crows usually go after people or small dogs?? I know mockingbirds are mean and will dive bomb anything....but this morning when taking my dog for a walk a crow tried to get him twice and then came after me! Is this something normal, or should I worry that the bird is sick and if it did get me or my dog would we become sick?? I wouldnt think a bird would have rabies unless it ate an animal that was infected....Just wondering what other people think....

What should I do if my neighbor’s dog (husky) keeps attacking my dog (Pitbull)?

Rylie, that’s an awful situation to be in! I’m sorry you must deal with this. Have you tried talking with the neighbor? Is their dog outside all the time? You could try to develop a time table for allowing your dog out when the neighbors dog is inside. If neither of the above is workable for you, call your local Humane Society and ask their advice. They will put you on to people who will talk or write to your neighbor about controlling their dog. If you don’t have Humane Society chapters around you, call this international number: 866-614-4371.Some people may suggest you carry pepper spray and squirt the offending dog with it, but it’s inhumane and you could open yourself to a law suit by your neighbor. Unfortunately, any deterrent they sell to drive a dog away will probably upset your dog as well. You could also call your local police non emergency number. There are fines given for out of control dogs. I wish you the best of luck!

Why does my dog attack people when they leave?

Your dog is controlling what you do. He attacks people when they leave in an effort to keep them from leaving. This does not sound like separation anxiety, unless your dog is going crazy when you are out of the house. Have you watched him when you're out of the house? Your dog needs DISCIPLINE. Set boundaries for him. Such as making him wait for you to go out the door first on a walk. Teach him heel. Make him understand that he only gets attention when YOU want him to come over to you. etc. He needs to get in his head that YOU are the leader, and its you who controls him. Convince him that you can do whatever you want without asking him first. This will take a long time, but if you are persistent, it will work. When your dog learns to take your leaving in a calm way, praise, praise, praise, oh and a very good treat. He will eventually learn that no attacking when you leave, means praise and a treat. Good luck!

Why do dogs that attack people get euthanasied?

You have some good answers here. Dakota Dog, Memphis Belle, Cookie...
What some people don't get is you can not compare dogs to humans. The people answering your question seemed to get that. Two entirely different species. Unfortunately sometimes it is an unjust killing. If a dog is actually vicious, whether born that way or made that way, there is nothing to do but euthanize the dog. However it really makes me angry with parents when they do not supervise their children with dogs or do not teach the child how to treat a dog. There has been many a dog that put up with eye poking, ear and tail pulling, being rode like a horse. The dogs will often walk away, just to be followed and tormented by the child. Dogs will give warnings, which are often ignored. Then when the dog has had one too many eye pokes or tail pulls it bites the child. Then it's OMG, we have to kill this vicious dog... That is totally unjust, unfair! Parents need to wake up and not only train their dog but train their children as well!

My dog attacked me, what should I do?

So I had adopted this dog about a year ago. He is smart, loving, and a well trained dog. But...i dont know what his last owners were like, but he does not like it when your face is close to his face. He will grawl at you. I am aware of this, and I tell children, and other people that are around him, b/c I'm not sure how he will react. Well, I unfortantly found out. I was laying on the couch with my boyfriend with my head on my boyfriend's chest. My dog jumped on the couch, and his face was close to mine. So, I slowly moved my face away, and he ATTACKED me! He bit and clawed my face soo bad, that my face is swollen, there was blood, and he took out a chunk of skin! My boyfriend yelled at him, and spanked him on the butt. But I dont know what to do! I love the dog so much, he is so sweet...but I don't know if i can take this lightly....I'm really worried. This is the ONLY issue i have ever had with him being mean! He doesn't attack new people or anything. What should I do?

Hes a rat terrior.

Will bats attack me if I'm walking my dog?

You're not being a baby, just someone who doesn't know about bats!

Bats are not 'vicious'. They feed on insects, they're not interested in you. They might swoop a bit close sometimes while they're chasing insects.

Bats don't 'attack' animals. Vampire bats are the only ones that feed on blood, but these ones only live in caves in Mexico, Chile, Brazil and Argentina so unless you live in these places you're not going to meet one - besides they feed on sleeping animals so they don't get disturbed during their feeding, they're not going to pounce on you or your dog because they would be wounded when you fought back.

The only possible dangers from bats are rabies - bats carry a form of this virus but it still under debate whether people can catch bat rabies or not. Do you live in an area where rabies is endemic? If so, you and your dog will presumably already be vaccinated against it!

I loooove bats, I get well excited if I see any when I'm outside.

Can you kill a dog if it attacks you?

Yes, you can kill a dog who attacks you- if you feel your life is in jeopardy, defend yourself and worry about the law later…. most jurisdictions allow self defense. See all the posts about fighting off a police dog for that specific issue. But, can you actually kill the dog?Not without weapons, training and help. Unless it was a mop dog or lap dog, of course, but anything over say 10–12 kg (maybe less) and you are in trouble. Thats how much a staffordshire bull terrier weighs, and although I love staffies, I’ve seen one take a face full of pepper spray and keep attacking, and he was not going to stop unless he was prevented from attacking by some brave soul, who happened to be the SPCA officer with a neck loop. The SPCA guy nearly garrotted that dog before he would stop biting.Dogs attack for various reasons- because they are insanely aggressive, territorial, food-/resource guarding, or feel their breeding rights/pups are threatened. When they attack, unless they have been trained to attack “properly” like a Police dog, they go for the kill, because they assume you will. Unless you know what to do, they will get you before you get them. Most have a bite force strong enough to break bones and tear flesh. They will fight until subdued but you will stop when you are hurt. Other dogs may join in if present. If the dog has been trained to attack people, you’re in serious trouble.Best thing to do is learn to read dog calming signals and tell if a dog is aggressive- and if they are, calmly and quickly go the other way.http://en.turid-rugaas.no/calmin...
