My Dogs Nose Flares When He Breathes

My dogs nose flares when he breathes?

I don't see it as anything abnormal or worth worrying about. As long as he can breath without laboring he's not in any distress. I've never noticed my dogs chest rising during "at rest" breathing either and have no concern about it.

Nostril moves when I breath after septoplasty!!!!?

Well if the firmer nostril doesnt allow air out, then I guess all the air must pass through the 'loose' nostril instead - it will be under higher pressure than if both your nostrils allowed air out- so it might be that pressure which causes your 'functioning' nostril to move when you breathe. The same thing happens when a person is out of breathe- there's more air to exhale than the nostrils are accustomed to so they flare to create more space for that air to be expelled. You need to get your firm nostril checked and possibly treated as that is most likely the cause of the problem.

Can dogs eat spicy food?

Some can, though I don’t know enough to say they should.Story about big food failure on my part… my dog has joint stiffness now that he’s older - my vet recommended turmeric, and recommended that I make/give golden paste 2X a day in his food. (Google it if you’re interested.) Started him slow, ramped up to 1/4 t per meal (he’s 18.5 lbs). I’d add a little water to the paste, then mix it with his food. He seemed to like it and had no issues with it.About 2 weeks after we started I had a bad morning. Half asleep, I put together his breakfast, put it down on the floor and walked away. A couple minutes later I realized he wasn’t eating… I turned to look to see … he was sticking his tongue out and in, (like going “BLECH!) and standing about 4 feet away from his food. He stared at me. My general approach is to be conscious, but not get involved too quickly, so he doesn’t get spoiled or fussy. So I waited, and a minute later he was back, nose in bowl, chowing down.Wasn’t until several hours later I reached into the fridge and realized I’d switched jars…. instead of giving him the golden paste, I’d given him hot Thai spice that I’d put in an identical jar.Poor guy had a real surprise, but it didn’t slow him down much. He ate every bit and seemed to have no digestive problems as a result. But I changed jars on the Thai spice, and will never be so careless again!

Dog breathing heavily/gasping/collapsing?

My golden retriever of roughly eight years has suddenly collapsed on the floor, and has since been breathing very heavily. For a few mins she started gasping as if choking but after we opened all the windows to let the air come in she settled down. She's since been lying there breathing better, but still poorly.

We called the vet who after checking the dog told us her heart seemed fine, she wasn't bleeding internally, and he bascially couldn't turn up anything conclusive. We're sending her to him to get checked over in the clinic tomorrow. Although he did tell us the dog is anemic, but it's unlikely to have caused this.

Can someone please provide any info they might have that could help us understand what's going on, or help ease her suffering. There is only one available vet around here so I'd like to use everything at our disposal to help her. Please ask question if it helps narrow down the problem.

Also, the vet didn't check her throat for a blockage, would it be safe for me to open her mouth and check myself?

Symptoms:
1. first collapsed on the floor
2. Heavy wheezing and gasping, with much fluxuation in her stomach
3. Points her noise toward any source of air/wind
4. Nostrils flaring (to get more air I assume)
5. Gasped as if choking for a good ten mins, which stopped right after we let more air in the room
6. She remains somewhat legless
7. Eyes became very dilated during the worst of it

My 8 year old great dane has developed asthama like attacks recently. What can I do?

What did the vet do?Did he listen to his heart and lungs with a stethoscope?Did he take blood for tests?Did he take x-rays of the thoracic cavity? How did he check the dog? Those examinations that I mention are very basic, there should be done immediately. If you think the dog wasn't examined good enough you should take him to another vet.Sounds like a serious problem, could be something with his lungs or his heart, like heart failure.Get him to another vet and ask for blood tests and x-rays now!

Snorting benadryl to target stuffy nose and allergies?

This may sound like a very bad idea.....I have horrible allergies which make my eyes swell, itch and tear....and my nose become so stuffed that I cannot breathe or smell for days. I've contemplated snorting benadryl before (I figured it would hit the target area fast because it goes right to my nasal passages......) now I understand that snorting anything is dangrous and hazardous.....but if my allergies are that bad and prescriptions like allegra and others don't work fast enough...is this possibly a short cut or a potential killer??

Thanks
