My Family Is Psychotic And Looks Through My Phone. I

What does a psychotic break look like?

It depends.

I haven't witnessed the procedure during its evolution (i.e. from health to breakdown) but I've seen psychotic patients during their hospitalization. I am not a psychiatrist, but I've been through basic psychiatry training.

You can expect "positive" or "negative" symptoms. Positive symptoms "add" something to the patient's experience of reality. Usually, patients hear voices (inside their head, from "radiowaves" etc) or feel insects crawling on them. These two presentations are quite common. Less frequently, symptoms include phenomena from any or all the senses. Negative symptoms "detract" the patient from reality. The patient may appear immobile, stop responding, stare into the void or simply withdraw into himself.

The long-term presence of the above symptoms can be organized into concrete irrational beliefs (the aliens are spying on me, I am the messiah etc) that are reinforced by the patient's persistent hallucinations (i am not sure this is the proper medical term, english is not my mother language).

Every presentation is different, but psychotic patients generally appear "weird", due to their incomplete/imperfect attunement with reality. You can usually tell if they are having symptoms because their behavior will be strange and communication with them will feel odd.

Have a look at the ICD (international classification of diseases). In the USA DSM is predominant, but I'm not really familiar with the differences. They should be roughly comparable.

What do you do if your parents look through your phone?

I've always had a very simple policy when it comes to people (mainly my parents, boyfriend, litter brother) looking through my phone or computer:You can if you want, but when you find stuff you didn't want to find that's on you, I ain't losing sleep but you probably will.I keep plenty of shocking things on my devices, some of it for no reason, some of it for very particular reasons. If someone went through my phone they would cause themselves more problems than they caused me. So far no one has tried it.So I used Applock DoMobile. I am using it from couple of month on my Xperia Z phone.. And if I want to know who tries and fails to get into your apps, It has just introduced the Intruder Selfie. Other features are good like locking files, videos, photos, or harassment intercept etc. No one can view my secrets. Smart. You can take a look https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.domobile.applock

Is it okay for parents to look through their child's phone to read their text messages and internet history? My parents do this and I’m 13. It makes me uncomfortable.

No. Parents should not go through private settings in a child's phone. Here is the kicker. Most parents think it is their right to surf their child's phone because they pay the bill and it is their home. Have I gone through any of my 4 children's phones? Yes. I'm not happy about this although I think what I found might defuse this argument in some families tonight. I have never read or discovered anything in any of their phones that I didn't already know or that surprised me. My shameless behavior was unnecessary and I knew this each time I did it. What I did was violate my kids privacy and worse breaking the trust we had built in each other. I was never caught but I knew what I had done.If you are a parent thinking of doing what I did, hear me first. Be prepared to find nothing. Unless you are going through the heartbreak of teenage drug use, bullying, pregnancy, drinking etc., you are not going to find anything in that phone that is worth the guilt you will feel. If your child was in trouble you would be doing more than reading text messages, tweets and Facebook posts. Their phone would be the last thing on your mind. Leave the phone alone and sit your child down and start talking! They will let you know just enough to ease your worried mind and your silly curiosity. Let your great kid have the earned privilege of privacy.

Does my dad have the right to look through my phone?

I'm 14 and my dad always takes my phone away if I get into an argument with my mom or teachers.
When he had my phone, he went online and saw my text messages, contacts and calls.
He called my mom to tell her that he wants to talk to me. He came over to my house (I live with my mom, I see him on the weekends) and he says "So who is calling you at 2:00 AM?" I played dumb & said "Nobody calls me at that time"
He wasn't my boyfriend though, he's my bestfriend. But my dad won't buy that.
So he says "Well I called the number back & I'm not going to tell the conversation but you do not need to be calling anyone at that time. You won't be getting your phone back"
Then he reads my texts and saw the msg I sent to my friend tha said "UGH I hate Andrea" (That's his wife) and he got very mad.
So I guess I'm not going to get my phone back for a long time. When my dad keeps it, he keeps it for almost a year..
But does my dad have rights to go through my phone?? well he IS my dad but why does he go through my stuff?
